Full Metal Jacket. It wasn't the most realistic, with the war part anyways, but the bootcamp was portrayed quite well. My dad used to be in the Marine Corp in the ealry 70s, he doesn't talk about it much, but my mom said one time a drill instructor literally knocked his teeth out and so now he has a few fake teeth. That's how cruel they were.

Finally someone made a poll about something that is one of my favorite catogories.

Hmmmm.......

Where shalle we begin.

I have a lot of war movies that I like. I guess I'll just say what I like about each one in particular and then I'll tell you which one I liked the most

Saving Private Ryan was a very good movie and very realistic. It doesn't make war seem so glamourous and makes it looks all pretty. Like Stephen Ambrose said in the Making off "Steven Spielberg makes you look at it all). You see Fish pick up the Hitler Youth knife and he starts crying because he is Jewish. You also see the Captain's look on the war and how he feels about killing other men. He just want's to get back home and be with his wife.

You also see how a man like Upham who really doesn't know much about war and combat knows that it is a duty that they have to do. Then there is Reiban who just is doing what he does not because he wants too but because he is looking out for his friends. Out of 10 I'll give it a 8

Platoon. It was a very good movie about Vietnam and what it was like. You see the racism in the movie and the attitude of people to one another. You also see that people are just fed up with them being there and just want to get back home. You see a College boy who volunteered like he said because he figured that why should rich people get to stay home and all the poor boys go off and die. You also see that the Platoon was spit up between Sgt. Elias and Sgt. Barns. One of them does what is right and makes sure that the people's right's are being protected. Then there is Sgt. Barns and his men who will do anything to get what they want including killing innocent people. Some of the actions aren't that well but it still shows some very good realism. I gave this movie a 8 as well.

Full Metal Jacket is another good Vietnam movie. You actually get to see what goes on during Boot Camp. You see Gunnery Sgt. Hartman act like he is the $hit and make everyone afraid of him. He doesn't sugar coat it and actually showed that people in Boot Camp weren't treated nicely but prepared for war and shown that if you hesitate first you are going to be dead. You really don't get to see the emotional side of the war that much but you get to see how people acted over there and the way that they thought. All they wanted was some Poon Tang. You see some of them kinda realisze that life is $hit but that they are still alive and that is all that matters. I gave this movie a 6.

We Were Soldiers was also a very good movie about Vietnam. It was very good because it showed what the relationship between the Col. was and his subordinates. You see him prepare them for war and tell them that when they are out there in the field that all they are going to have is each other. I also liked about this movie was the tactics. You saw what was going on both sides and how what happened, happend. One thing that was very unique about this movie was that it showed what went on at home. You see how the wifes dealt with it all and what really happened when the Western Union Guy came and delivered those telegrams. Saving Private Ryan barely touched this but this movie really showed the emotion that went on and how all the wifes helped each other out and the sacrafices that Military family's had during war. The realism was also very well and how one man, Joe Galloway, a reporter covered the war and how he tried to understand the war. He saw a lot of stuff and was there to make sure that people knew what was going on over there and so that what happened there in the La Drang valley was not forgotten. I alos liked the way that the Col. went around and didn't just give orders but participated and was acutally fighting with his men and was with them. You see him take a role like a father to all the soldiers and how he kept them together and and motivated and he also felt bad about what was happening to his men. I gave this movie a 8.

And second to last is Black Hawk Down. I really loved this movie a lot. It showes you how naive we were back in the 93' and how we felt that nothing could stop us. I think that it was the most realistic movie of them all because you see everything. It was very gruesome and gritty. You also got to see how the men all felt about being there. Espicially like Sgt. Eversman because he didn't think like the rest of them but actually respected the skinnies. He understood why we were there and why they did what they did. He wanted to help instead of watching the country tear itself apart on CNN like he said. You got to see how the men respected each other and knew and didn't take anything for granted after they were deeply into the conflict. I also liked the way they portrayed Sgt. Randy Shugart and Sgt. Gary Gordon risked their life for a Black Hawk crew and how they gave up their life's for there fellow brothers in arms. They knew it was a suicide mission but did it anyway and how they were very brave. Another thing that I also enjoyed was what Sgt. Hoot said in the very begginng. How he sayed that once that first bullet flew past there head that everything else that was going on around the world didn't mean $hit. I also liked how at the end he told Eversman why he did. That it wasn't because of the adrenaline but because of each other. They were there for each other and no matter what happened they would not leave a man behind. I gave this movie a 9.

Finally there is Band of Brothers. I haven't had the time to watch all the episodes. I have only seen part of Curee and part of the one on D-Day night and D-Day day. I really like what I have already seen and how it showed there training and how there was there bond as if they were brothers like the title says. It showed on how they goofed around and how they were just having fun in the begginning. I also like the way the had Capt. Sokkel because he was the a$$ and how they all didn't like him and how they knew he was going to get them killed if they went to war with him. It was very realsitic and I gave it a 8 because I haven't seen them all yet.

I guess you can see that Black Hawk Down is my favorite out of all of them. Even though many of you picked Saving Private Ryan I didn't really see why it was the best out of all of them when it wasn't really based on a real event. The Characters were made up but stuff like D-Day and Remgen where. Black Hawk Down, We Were Soldiers, and Band of Brothers were good because they actually had real people and real events.

I hope I didn't bore you with this huge review but this is something that I actually know what I am talking about and I love to talk about.

I disliked Black Hawk Down for several reasons.

The operation was pointless. (Wasn't the movie's fault, it was Cliton's, and don't get me started.) To fast. Couldn't remember who was who.

I kept track of them like this: It's Tom Sizemore, it's Ewan McGregor, it's that guy from Pearl Harbor girls think is cute...

That was pretty much it for me. Every one is entitled to their opinion. I forgot to include that one. Should have.

I liked We Were Soldiers, better than the above IMO. I have never seen Full Metal Jacket, but hear it was OK, not great.

Never have heard of that one. What year is that?

Might check it out, but I like court ones, like this one with Denzel Washington as a lawyer in a case after Gulf War (post the name please if you know it, pretty good), Rules of Engagement with Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson, Hart's War with Bruce Willis, and the such.

Or just war, with guys shooting opposing armies.

There are a few good WWI ones out there to. The Lost Battalion is a made for AMC movie. Very good. And then of course, All Quiet on the Western Front. This was told from a German's point of view, from the start of his life in the army, to well his end in the army. Pretty good.

Youre talking about Courage Under Fire with Meg Ryan, Lou Diamond Philips, and Denzel Washington. He basicall investigating what happened During a Gulf War Mission with a female Pilot, Meg Ryan, who was shot down with her crew and she dies saving her men's lifes. He investigating whether or not they should give her the Medal Of Honor.

All Quiet On The Western Front is also a good movie as well. I like the Newer version just cause it is in color and you can visually see more of what is going on easily.
