Swoop

Okay now the release of Ep I and II has basically screwed all the Extended Universe stuff to hell :D Some may hate how it's done that some like it, some don't like it but don't mind cause small things like Coruscant were included :D

But anywayz... there is one thing in Episode 2 that has me a LITTLE confused... The Swoop Anakin used to search for his mum on Tatooine...

Is the Swoop an official creation or an extended universe creation? I can trace the creation of the Swoop back to Shadows of the Empire but that's it.

The swoop bikes can also be seen in A New Hope Special Edition as Luke, Obi-Wan, C3-PO and R2-D2 pull into Mos Eisley in Luke's speeder. The swoop bike riders (part of the gang that go after Luke in Shadows of the Empire, if I remember correctly) frighten the big Ronto with the Jawa (I think) rider falling off, remember? In the same scene if you look really close, you can see Dash rendar's Outrider pulling away in the background as well... :D

Yeah, I know. Maybe it's something to do with the way that Shadows of the Empire was made. It was actually agreed with LucasFilms that the story would be made into a book, a comic, and a game (but not a film) that all tied in accturately with each other (except for the game, which had to have slight changes to it to make it a playable mission-based thing).

Basically, its like in real life - the swoop is a civilian version of the military speeder.

No weapons, more speed and comfort.

No biggy.

Anway - they first appeared in Rebel Assault series... How could you forget that bitchin' mynock and princess sequence - HATED IT!!!!

From the Database on http://www.starwars.com

The Flare-S swoop was developed for the extended Mos Eisley sequences in the Special Edition of A New Hope. An entirely computer-generated creation, the film's sole Flare-S was operated by a cone-headed driver that some development sketches jokingly referred to as "Born to Hover." Though designed for the 1997 re-release of Star Wars, the Flare-S was first revealed in the Shadows of the Empire multi-media adventure. The Flare-S design was resurrected and modified for the swoop's brief appearance in Episode I.

So the Swoop was developed for the ANH:SE, and is therefore not an example of an EU creation appearing in the movies.

Okay ANH:SE was realese 1997.... Shadows of the Empire released a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiil ealier than that In 1996 The book form I mean.

Yes, but the ANH:SE was already in pre-production before then and Steve Perry took the idea from ILM, not vice versa. The Swoop was already going to be in the movie, regardless of whether or not it appeared in SotE. The same can be said for the ASP droid--Vader sparred with one in SotE, but the droid was already designed for the Special Edition.
