I had to go for the LotR, since you said "set of movies". And Star wars, by now, is made up of three great movies, and two crappy ones (four, if you count the ewok movies too). While LotR consist of two great movies, zero crappy ones. This far. So, episode 1 and 2 drags the rest with 'em too much for me to truthfully vote for Star Wars. Call me old-school, but starwars ain't starwars without Han Solo! ;)

Yeah, definately LotR, but then again it may be because I'm much more partial to the fantasy genre. Then again it may be that the LotR trilogy remains the most entertaining set of books I've ever read.

I first saw Star Wars in 77 or 78 (cant remember) at the age of 7 or 8... Didnt read LotR for the first time until I was in my early teens. Based on that I would expect that Star Wars would remain the favorite for sentimental reasons, but J.R.R. shattered that silly notion... lol

I said LOTR mainly because I grew up reading

and still reading the books. I love Star Wars

but I have never read a Star Wars book.

also LOTR most likely was based on other archetypal

material, but a lot of LOTR has to do with a man

writing a story for himself and his grandchildren.

no Offence George Lucas but you were a film student

taking the best from here and ther to make a really

great concept, and you freely admit to what you

borrowed from here and there.

also LOTR just happens to be more topical

and whether we like to think or believe it or not

when you are baraged by a large scale media awareness

of an event, you tend to go along with the crowd.

(and this also is not a bad thing. it just is a thing.)

as much as we all love Star Wars

George Lucas's time table worked against him.

in the 70's-80's he was god

and he released movies and made us happy

but then there are long silences between productions.

and when episode 3 is made

will 7,8 and 9 ever get made?

no Peter Jackson shot an epic in 18 months

and has assured himself and his movie

cinematic bragging rights for a long time to come

because next christmas, last christmas

and the one before that, he has us caught up

in Middle Earth.

I feel Mr Lucas after he shoots 3

should seriously consider the 3 movie gambet

if he wants us all to come back over to his side of the Force.

This polls pointless, its like comparing apples and oranges.

No, silly, it's actually like comparing one movie with another! Or no, it is comparing one movie to another, since that's what the thread is about. The fact that people seems to compare the universe/books too, isn't part of it, since that's not what the maker of the poll said. :D

That said, yes, there's a big difference in the creation of SW and LotR. But do I judge by graphics? Hell no! I am still to this day more impressed with the space battles in the original series than in the new movies.

Oh, I thought I was that all along, now I'm confused! :D

Worst nightmare:

In the latest holobits: "Yes, we had a slight change of plan the latest week here at the studio, so yes, SWG will be set in the TPM era."

*GAH!* *wakes up soaked in fear-induced sweat*

Well, my vote would go to Star Wars, mainly because I only started reading LotR books a few years ago. And because they're not making a movie on the Hobbit.

The current info on the Hobbit is that Peter Jackson is interested in filming the Hobbit, but there is one problem: one company owns the rights to the book, while another owns the rights to distribute any movies made on it (or something like that, it's quite some time since I checked it up). So, until these companies and Jackson agrees, there's no movie.

But we can hope. (mmm..... Thorin Oakshield.... lots of mighty dwarf warriors! And Smaug! It's a sure hit, I tell you!)
