There was so many things answered in this book. What did you all think of the prophecy made between Voldemort and Harry? I kinda thought something like that was coming. And who else was really bummed out that Sirius died? I thought it was going to be Ron or Hermione towards the end... those last couple chapters really had my heart racing.

There was still a lot of things left unanswered, but this was definitely a great start to unraveling the mystery JK Rowling has been spinning over the past 4 books. I can't wait for the next one!

I'm still not finished with the book, however I am already "spoiled". So far I"m to the part where they are taking their O.W.L's. Though sirius hasn't died yet for me. I really think that it was coming. Sirius couldn't really do much in the book for Harry anymore. We needed something to force Harry to grow up quickly and get outta this hormonal mood he is in for the next book.

Sorry, I can honestly can't see what is so great about these books or films, they are incredibily overrated, I can't see the appeal of these books, training to be a wizard has been all done before, and the only reason Harry Potter is a success in the UK is because (like Radiohead) was a success first in the USA.

yes, agreed STTCT, if you dont have anything constructive, STAY OUT OF THIS THREAD. Please dont say why or why not you HAVEN'T read the books. this thread is to talk about the books with out critisizing them..anyway

I loved this book. Each one Rowling writes just seems to get better and better. I know i have to but i can't wait for the 6th book. As i've said in the other thread, i'll be very sad when i finish the 7th book, as it will be the last one.:( I think that the relationship between Harry and his aunt will become a bit friendlier in later books, but who knows. I also got the feeling from the whole book the Hermione has it bad for Harry. Once again who knows.

I suggest you try to read the books, Murphy, before saying they are overrated :)

They are very well written, they have a good story, lots of humour, incredible rereadability, and so on.

I'm not so ignorant that I would claim something as overrated before reading the book, I read about 30 pages of The Philosopher's Stone and though God this is boring.

I personally thought the it wasn't poorly written however the content was terrible.

What I'm more interested in, is the thing Harry saw in Snape's pensieve. Looks like James was a bit of a jerk against Snape. More easy to understand why Snape is so mean to Harry now.

Speaking of Snape, do you believe he is good or bad? I'm sure that he has had to do something special to gain Dumbledore's trust so much. Snape has always been a bit mean, but never a truly bad guy.

I agree, i think Snape had to do something VERY huge to gain Dumbledores trust. and James does come off as mean. but as Lupin and Sirius told Harry, James got better over the last two years.

Murphy is right, they aren't that good! Or, the two first ones aren't (I've only read that ones).

Well thanks for your opinion but unless your gonna talk about the current book The Order of the Phoenix, GET OUT. the rest of us who have enjoyed this book are posting inhere because we want to discuss it and because we like it.

Something else i thought of about the book. I feel that the spell Harry and Aunt Patunia(sp) have is kinda silly. I mean, you have to see her once a year? What is with that. I think Rowling could have been more creative here. Any comments.

Yes, as has been suggested before... if you don't like HP, or don't like their content, don't think they're that good, can't understand why they're so popular, or anything of that sort, this is not the thread for you. You don't have to come here, all you're doing is pissing people off. I suggest the rest of us just ignore these counter-productive people.

MasterJo,

Harry doesn't actually have to see his Aunt once a year, he just has to return to the house where she lives once a year. Apparently the spell has some type of one-year shelf life. I think it makes sense, as it explains why Dumbledore always insisted Harry should go home before going anywhere else after leaving Hogwarts.

Breton,

I think Snape is good. He admitted to Harry that he is spying on Voldemort for Dumbledore... risking his life definitely qualifies him as a good guy.

STTCT,

I know it was necessary to have something force Harry to mature quickly and get out this "hormonal phase," I just wish it didn't have to be Sirius. :(

I personally think that it's Hermione and RON who have it bad for each other. They just won't admit it so they're always bickering.

I was REALLY sad that Sirious died. I didn't realize how much I enjoyed him until he was gone...and I want him BACK DAMMIT!!!!

:(

Snape is a good guy, and now I feel a BIT of understanding for his cruelty to Harry.........but not THAT Much. He's a little over the top, it isn't Harry's fault that his dad was an *** to him. And why he doesn't see the PURE EVIL in Malfoy is beyond me.

Does anyone think that Harry will EVER have the same Defence against the Dark Arts teacher again? Perhaps bring back Mad-Eye? Or Lupin? Or bring in a new one to serve the last two years and STAY?

The part with Lockheart in St. Mungo's was so funneh.

I was also pleased to see Neville's character advance to something beyond a simpleton. His efforts to advance his wizarding skills to fight the people who destroyed his parents really makes me pleased. He's still no amazing wizard, but I'm glad to see him trying.

And the Weasely twins were hilARIOUS in this book. I do hope they'll maintain a strong presence in the last two books. They're quite delightful.

I agree with masterJo, I loved the book, and I'm bummed out Sirius died, and I'm glad to see Neville finally getting good at magic. The weasly twins were hilarious, I always wondered what would happen if they went all out, no holds barred at Hogwarts. Also, the spell between Harry and Aunt Petunia reveals why DUmbledore never wants Harry going straight to the burrow.

I thought HAgrid was the one who was gonna die though, especially during the Astronomy O.W.L.

I can't wait till the sixth one

*Grabs his binoculars, camofloge and Ration, pack and goes to spy on J.K. Rowling to make sure she writes the book fast*

Anyway, since the books seem to keep getting longer, I wonder how long the 7th one will be

Just as I thought. But I guess he can't be spying at Voldemort anymore, since Vold is pretty determined to kill the death eaters that didn't return.

About Sirius' death: It was sad, of course, since he was the closest thing Harry had to a parent. But you might admit that Sirius was getting a bit weird in the book. And what would be the alternative? It would be much more sad if it had been a Weasley who had died, or Hagrid. I was pretty he was going to get the death of the book when Umbridge and "minions" turned up at his place and tried to stun him.

I liked the book...the first... uh...30 or so hours I had it...then I finished. :o

The Fred and George were great, Ron's Quiditch was cool (the save while hanging off the broom)...

Although...all this prophesy stuff in movies now... Star Wars, The Matrix, and now Harry Potter.

Btw, I can't wait to see the Voldemort/Dumbledore fight in the movies :drop2:

PS- I'M BACK!

The book certainly gave insight as to why Snape hate(d) James and hates Harry. He is a little over-the-top, but remember... he was in Slytherin.

I'm positive Snape sees the pure evil in Malfoy (both Draco and Lucius), but as he is acting as a spy for Dumbledore, he doesn't want to arouse suspicion, so he must continue to overlook Draco's actions (otherwise he might run off and tell his father).

No, I think Snape admitted that he continues to spy on Voldemort. Given the fact that Snape is an accomplished Occlumencist and can lie convincingly to Voldemort, i'm sure it wasn't difficult to convince him he couldn't return under Dumbledore's nose. What's more, i'm certain he's told Voldemort that he's just staying at Hogwarts to keep Voldemort informed of what's going on (lies again). I think Snape is risking his life as a member of the Order of the Phoenix, and I think it's more than likely that Voldemort will catch him at some point and kill him.

Oh, and a couple people have mentioned this now, but I have to agree - the Weasley twins were brilliant in this book. Their wild exit from Hogwarts had me laughing for some time.

It would be awesome if Voldemort discovered Snape, and then HARRY saved Snape's life from Voldemort........thusly redeeming himself in Snape's eyes and Snape can look PAST the fact that he's James Potter's son.

That would be cool, but isn't that asking a bit much of Harry? I mean, he's going to have his hands full seeing as how he's the only one who can kill Voldemort (and he'll be doing it during his 7th and final year at Hogwarts, unless Voldemort kills him first).

I'm on page 733...but besides that

I LOVED Fred and George's exit! Gosh, sometimes I wish I could just ditch my responsibilty's and fly away like that!

Anyways...

Harry's dad..and the memory. I'm surprised he got away with doing that to Snape because if Harry tried doing that to Malfoy...? It makes me wonder did the books ever say if Lucious Malfoy's dad went to Hogwarts? I think it said no, but you never know. It was almost as if Snape was a Neville back in the day huh?

Anyways. I wish Harry would respect Snape more, I think he's hard on people for a reason. I think Harry will appreciate it when he's older and more wiser.

The Ron and Hermoine thing is bugging me. I wonder if there is going to be a Love triangle in the next few. I mean its bound to happen 2 hormonal guys and one girl? Though Hermoine is just one of the guys right now....I have a feeling in the next book she may pull away from the guys and start hanging out with more girls.

just thoughts

I don't think the books have said if he did or didn't, but I think it's more than likely that Lucius went to Hogwarts.

And I don't think Snape was like Neville... Sirius said himself (in book 4 I think) that Snape came to school knowing more spells than most 7th years. I think he was just an outcast (and a Slytherin, besides) and secretly was jealous of James.

About Lucius... Didn't Draco say his father wanted him to go to a different school (can't remember the name, Durmstrang maybe? Better start rereading the whole series...) besides Hogwarts? Btw, Order of the Phoenix is an excellent book, perhaps the best installment in the Potter series! I hate Kreacher!! Oh, how I wish Sirius lived. For Snape, I don't think he was jealous; I just think he loathed James. James treated him this way, bcz IMO he was ugly, as they discribe him as having greasy hair and very pallid skin.
