mercatfat
Discuss your favorite films. My top three are as follows: 1. Ghost World God, I love this movie so much. I think it's perfect in nearly every way after the acting stops sucking 30 minutes into the film. 2. Office Space Best satire ever. 3. Tommy Boy Stupid, but damn, Chris Farley and David Spade are great together. Some parts aren't as funny to me as I get older, but "Richard! What'd you do!" is the moment that defines film to me. C Shutt
These aren't in any real order, but... The Big Lebowski The perfect comedy. I heart the Coen Brothers. Office Space What you said. Gary Cole as Bill Lumbergh is the greatest cinematic villain of all time. Blade Runner This movie is the number one reason on my list "Why Harrison Ford is the best movie star ever". mercatfat
One of my chick friends told me to see The Big Labowski. What's so wonderful about it? I'm also getting into Christopher Guest.. Best in Show and Waiting for Guffman were both excellent, but I haven't seen This Is Spinal Tap yet.. that'll change tommorrow, I think.
scabb
The Big Lebowski is the best movie ever. See it. Other films that deserve a mention include Planes, Trains & Automobiles, Back to the Future, and Home Alone. Yes, I suck. I am yet to see Blade Runner too. Funny film-related story, which I'm sure RemiO will appreciate. Last night I couldn't find my order for "Cannibal! The Musical" anywhere on Play, nor was the DVD on the site anymore. So, assuming production of the DVD had been halted, I decided that I would import it from Amazon. This morning it arrived, and now I can't cancel my Amazon order. Hurray. Ray Jones
i killed people standing between me and my tv while a BudSpencer and TerenceHill movie was running. i never had to go to jail for that, since the judges were always on my point of view .. ! so 1.) any Bud and Terence movie. "He called our mom an old stinky whore" "and..?" "uhm see, she isnt that old at all.." 2.) NBK weird. had to watch it two times at once to capiche the format. cool. 3.) Full Metal Jacket. these boots are made for walking..! ps. i forgot .. Alien TRILOGY .. best.. the second movie! (ressurection was not really an alien movie.. ) .. etc. [edit] i watch indy jones frequently .. hmm. why is it not in the list .. ?? there is no need to discuss indy. Alia
Ocean's Eleven is my favoritest favorite movie of all time! It's great. It's the greatest movie ever. A-a-a-and I've seen it too many times. There'e also the excellent film version of "The Firm" with Tom Cruise. And I like National Velvet a lot, too. I saw Office Space once and thought it was funny but then I found out someone I ... did not like so much ... loved it. Loved it A LOT. Yeah, it's kind of catty of me, but that kind of spoiled it. Remi
I suck at ranking anything over anything, but I'll try... North by Northwest There's been better Hitchcock movies and there's been better Cary Grant movies, but at the same time it kinda works as a "best of" movie for both director and actor, drawing a lot of elements from their previous works. Plus, the crop-duster scene is like the best evar. Swingers Essential hipster comedy with excellent dialogue. Gotta love the improvisation too. Don't Look Now The scariest movie of all time, with that damn last scene. Amazing cinematography and acting also. Also, Big Lebowski and Office Space are both great movies which probably would be in my top 15.

Zoom Rabbit
Strange Days--A weird, kinky action thriller set at the turning of the millenium. It's interesting to see how much of what we thought would be our future in 1993 came true... Fast & the Furious--I am a Zoom Rabbit, after all. YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES TO KEEP UP WITH ME, PUNK? Probably not... Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension--The greatest cult film and source of one-liners of all time. 'Character...is what you are in the dark!' Natty
Originally posted by Neil Joshi Dude, I forgot about Star Wars, Indy and Back to the Future, all of them, cheers Natty. I wanna know when the original Star Wars trilogy is gonna be out on DVD. I know Indy is getting released in Aus in November and Back To The Future is already out. Other movies I gotta add are Titanic Zoolander The Sweetest Thing Forrest Gump The Wedding Singer Scream (although I love the whole trilogy) Rat Race Josie and the Pussycats (don't ask I find it fantastic) Oh and then who can forget the Disney movies? Nitro
The Hunt For Red October Sean Connory is my Lord and Master, and Alec Baldwin's a fine actor. Ocean's Eleven (the new one) The first one never sat well with me, how easy it was for them to make the heist... Plus, I'm in love with the music in the remake. Pulp Fiction Pretty much the only Tarantino flick I've *really* enjoyed. The way the seperate storylines all sort of come together make me happy. Snatch Beats the pants off Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. Brad Pitt earned my seal of approval for this one... And Vinny Jones is just godlike in anything he does. Full Metal Jacket Well, anything Kubrick, really... Scarface I've loved this movie since I first saw it years ago... My fave Pacino movie. Fell in love with GTA: Vice City cause of how similar it was to the movie. Ghostbusters I grew up on the Ghostbusters cartoons, but I still liked the movie better... Dan Ackroyd's finest work ever. He co-wrote it with Harold Ramis (the guy who plays Egon), and helped design almost all of the props, and came up with the no-ghosts logo.
Natty
YES GHOSTBUSTERS!!!!! How could I forget that? There are some serious classic one-liners in Ghostbusters. Strangely enough most of them are from Venkman Venkman: We came, we saw, we kicked its ass! Venkman: Back off man. I'm a scientist. Raymond Stantz: Everything was fine, until dickless here cut off the power grid! Mayor: Is that true? Venkman: Yes, Your Honor, this man has no dick. Venkman: Let's show this prehistoric bitch how we do things downtown! Ray: I tried to think of the most harmless thing ... something that could never destroy us ... something I loved from my childhood
Nitro
We've got this Mr. Stay Puft guy all wrong... He's a sailor, he's in New York... We get this guy laid, we won't have any trouble! That, "Let's split up..." - "Good idea, we can do more damage that way," and the Twinky line are the best.
scabb
Ghostbusters question: Which came first, the cartoon or the movie? I think Kubrick kind of went sour halfway through Full Metal Jacket. Everything he did after that was.. not so good. Eyes Wide Shut was one of the most disappointing movies ever. Reservoir Dogs also deserves a mention, because it's definitely up in the same league as Pulp Fiction. I can't wait for Kill Bill to eventually hit theatres. Aladdin is the best Disney film ever, and you should all go see Mulholland Drive too. Sorry, I just had to work those two into the same sentence. edlib
I seem to remember a Ghostbusters type cartoon back when I was very young, (early '70s,) although I don't think it was called that, and the characters were very different. 2001: A Space Odyssey The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Monsters, INC. The Producers Monty Python and the Holy Grail Airplane!
Nitro
There was a cartoon called "The Ghost Busters", created in 1975, which ran 16 half-hour episodes about two guys and their pet gorilla who chase ghosts the world over. I've seen a few eps, and it's f#@*ing retarded. When Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis wrote "Ghostbusters" the movie, they'd never heard of the cartoon. Finally, after a boatload of negotiaions (and about 2/3rds of the way through shooting), Columbia got the rights to use "Ghostbusters". We almost ended up watching "Ghoststoppers". That's also why the Ghostbusters cartoon we all know and love is called "The Real Ghostbusters". "Ghostbusters" was released in 1984, "The Real Ghostbusters" ran from '86 to '91, and "Ghostbusters II" brought the boys in grey back from silver-screen retirement in 1989. Joshi
I saw Ghostbusters the other day (twas on TV). I really think Bill Murray steals the show with all of his one liners (which Natty kindly posted). Natty, I'm not too sure when the star wars trilogy is coming out (i've got a magazine with it in i think I'll look it up for you). Scabb, Aladdin was great (and the special edition comes out next year on DVD, ala Beauty and the Beast). Robin Williams is brilliant (anyone else seen his stand up at broadway?) and the story was well done. But I really love Beauty and the Beast (gives us all hope ) as that was also really good and hade brilliant music (R.I.P Howard Ashman, a man who gave a Mermaid his voice and a Beast his soul) The Lion King was also one of the best films out there and I don't care about the critics, I loved Treasure Planet. Natty
In some ways, I kind of hope that the original Star Wars isn't released on DVD till after episode3, make it a 6disk box set or something with maybe a 7th disk for extras or something, I dunno.
