Darth Eggplant
before seeing the Animatrix was opinion was: Anime SUCKS!!!!!! now after buying and watching the Animatrix my opinion is: ANIME REALLY SUCKS!!!!! and now after buying the Animatrix I say to Larry & Andy Wachowski: JUST SAY NO MORE!!!!! 7 directors made 9 short films. I only found 3 worth the price of admission. the rest were just plain DOOKEY! Flight Of The Osiris CG is getting better still looks like hillarious Thunderbirds puppets, use real actors guys. also yes someone had to warn Zion about squiddies but what was the point humans lose everyone dies. The Second Renaissance Part 1 & 2 These 2 films are worth the money, and the only reason I won't throw this tape into the trash. It was cool to see how the matrix came to be, however once again so Nhilisitic. I mean I love the matrix but when I see humanity in all it's civilized splendor I was rooting for the machines of Zero 1 to take over. and since I reading the latest Dune book "Butlerian Jihad" it was very topical. Kid's Story this episode is also a keeper. the ending *spoiler* and tie in to Reloaded was cool. did not see it coming until it did, and then it made me go weeeee!!!!! cool man. trouble is, it's like a one time only joke only funny once only worth watching once. Program I liked the cool asian box thing maze bit the poofy hair and samurai stuff eh and once again story did not muchg of anything just an excuse for anime animators to remain pastey pale in a studio and Otaku anime fans glued mindlessly to a TV. World Record another big waste of disjointed sceens with no plot, no point and just a late night waste of my time, and our current energy resources. Beyond neat Matrix cat, cool house neat anime style kids dumb ass anime waste of time, again, no plot or point or anything. ends as it begins with a big WTF! or more acurately eh... A Detective Story big waste of time cool music cool film noir a washed up detective finds Trinity like 1,2,3 so why have the machines never caught her? also a cynical jaded stranger meets her and decides to save her life? please he'ld turn her in for the cash in a new york minute. Matriculated sorry i did not see it stoned, will do so later. cool images. but pointless, they try to trick machine into loving them then when machine falls in love with the girl she does the Faye Rae\Kong thing. so seeing this and also after hearing tracks 11 & 12 off the OST it is official, Larry & Andy Wachowski it is time to JUST SAY NO MORE before you go and fall from grace and pop icon cult status or you will have to go onto that laundry website for celeb's put through the ringer. and this thread will be hated by Anime fans, however Animation rocks! Anime sucks! and as Cypher said in the Matrix: "don't hate me, I'm just the messenger."

Khier
I'm a proud anti-anime individual, but I thought a few of the shorts were quite well done.
Darth Groovy
Flight of Osiris felt like a genuine Matrix movie. You can barely tell it's animated. Kid's story was great. Detective story was great. Everything else was either really stupid, or hardly coherent. Hopefully George Lucas will never try to pull a stunt like this. BigTeddyPaul
I liked it for the reason it was original and for about half of the movies. I loved the Osiris thingy and the two parter of the war between humans and people helped explain quite a bit. I also liked the runner man record one. The Cheat
i thought some of them were pretty good but i also dont really care for anime
BongoBob
The first one I liked because it set up for Enter the Matrix and Reloaded, the war ones were good(explained quite a bit), and I liked most of them. But the ones that gave me a big wtf were Record and the one with the cat. WTF! Can someone explain this to me???
Kurgan
I wasn't that impressed. Other than the CGI of the first one (slightly better than I remember Final Fantasy TSW), the stories were pretty goofy and disjointed. I was disappointed with how the stories were told, it was better when I imagined how it might have happened. ; ) Oh well. I like animation, I'm just not a japanimation fanboy. Also the story about that nerd who kills himself to find his hero Neo was pretty dumb, not to mention some headcase will probably get the wrong idea from it and kill himself too. Lost Welshman
I hate anime, but I really enjoyed the episodes I saw. Detective story wasn't that bad, just didn't seem to have a point. The Second Reneasioudk (SP?) Seemed a little weird but it was ok Program was..... different..... The Final Flight of the Osiris was really cool. With a pointless, but VERY nice intro scene. thus I conclude, where are the potatoe chips.
leXX
Hate to say it Eggy, but if it wasn't for anime, there would be no Matrix in the first place. The Wachowski's got a lot of their ideas for the Matrix from the anime film Ghost in the Shell, and the whole idea for the style of the Matrix came from anime comics and the style of anime films. So, you may think anime sucks, but you must view the Matrix as a real life anime film, which is how the brothers intended it to look. They are huge anime fans, and wanted to do a film with the same angles and feel of comics and anime films. Go and watch Ghost in the Shell and you will see exactly what I am talking about. The green code, plugged in, bullets hitting concrete pillars, landing hard on the roof and breaking slabs etc etc. Then there is the storyline, which is a combination of many anime films ideas. As for the Animatrix, as a whole, I like it a lot. Each little story adds to the whole picture. I agree the animation style in some of them leave a lot to be desired, but most of them are done brilliantly. The soundtrack that accompanies it is awesome. I used to be like you, I never really liked anime, but then I watched a series called Cowboy Bebop and my whole opinion on anime changed. I now love anime and own numerous films and watch it on tv as often as possible. If you ignore all the googly eyed cute girly animes and watch the 'adult' orientated animes, I'm sure your opinion will change aswell. =)
Darklighter
'Twas the same kinda story with me, leXX. My friend introduced me to Bebop, and I was instantly hooked. The are few others as good as it, IMO, but I've started watching animes like Gravitation, DNAngel, Evangelion and Love Hina, all good stuff ^^ I was mightily impressed with the Animatrix when I got it on DVD last month, though I had already seen a few of the episodes, both from official downloads, and FFOTO on TV back in June. There's still one episode I haven't watched amazingly enough, Matriculated, due to just not finding the time, and I kinda forgot about it. Will soon though. Well, I loved all of the episodes I've seen so far, my favourites being Detective Story and FFOTO. I know people say that The Second Renaissance chapters were weird, but it gives really good background of what happened before the Matrix was created, and how the machines came to power. I found it very interesting, was quite dark and nasty though. Like leXX said, The Matrix wouldn't be without the influence of anime. Still haven't watched all of GITS, but from what I've seen I can see that the Wachowski brothers borrowed a lot of material from it. As did they from "Dark City", fantastic movie which I gotta watch again. If you get a chance, watch it, cos the similarities to The Matrix are quite scarily obvious ^^;
Darth Eggplant
I guess it's not a fair and accurate statement to make. I do like some anime, and I do hate some animation. I thought the animation itself in the animatrix was quite good, i did not even mind the variation in style i just thought maybe each film might have a bit more to them. I have never seen Ghost In The Shell, but the Matrix is like a real good anime (only live action) that is the kind of anime I would enjoy. I did like some of the animtrix. it was not a complete loss, and i really really love the OST. anyhow personally i do not care that much for anime, as saying it sucks, although emotional might rankle some die hard anime fans. *but really it does suck!* anyhow get revenge on me by starting a "Invader Zim is stupid thread." I promise to post in all in tears, and flabergasted babbling like a maniac monkey.
Acrylic
Ummm...I like Boogie Pop Phantom kinda. Its kinda hard to follow the story, but it's pretty good. But, my all time favorite anime is definately TRIGUN!
Kurgan
Hate to say it Eggy, but if it wasn't for anime, there would be no Matrix in the first place. The Wachowski's got a lot of their ideas for the Matrix from the anime film Ghost in the Shell, and the whole idea for the style of the Matrix came from anime comics and the style of anime films. Baloney, comic books have been around for what, 60+ years? They've inspired movies for perhaps just as long. Not only that but many similar movies to the Matrix were made before 1999 (both in theme, plot, characterizations, special effects, etc). If you want to get really picky, the idea that "the world we live in is not what it seems/an illusion" is thousands of years old. The idea of using humans as a power source was pretty original, although I think I remember seeing a Star Trek voyager episode with a similar plot. All the Matrix did was combine some elements from several familiar setups into one blockbuster movie. Perhaps the "clever editing" (the spinning camera, split second slo-mo effect, bullet time, etc) could be credited as being "anime-inspired" but not much else. It's sort of like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon when it came out, people were oohing and ahhing, when in reality that kind of wire work and storyline were actually quite cliche (if not in the US then in the rest of the film world). Don't get me wrong, I liked the Matrix, but it really wasn't all that new and different even back then, and it can't all be credited to japanime, even if the Brothers say it was their primary inspiration (after all, anime gets its own ideas from various sources as well). It would be analogous to saying that Star Wars wouldn't have been possible without "the Hidden Fortress."

Like I said, they got a lot of their ideas from Ghost in the Shell. The Matrix's angles, special effects and green code were all inspired by anime. The brothers wanted to re-create the feel of comics and anime films in a live action film, and that is what inspired them to invent bullet-time and the seemingly impossible camera angles. The Nebuchadnezzar and human battery pods were designed by Geoffrey Darrow, the artist responsible for the comic book Hard Boiled of which the brothers are fans. The storyline is a combination of many things. Other films, comics and books. One of the main influences was the book 'Simulacra and Simulation' by Jean Baudrillard. Yes I agree that the idea is not that original. It has been told in many different ways by many different people, but the thing that sets The Matrix apart from all the others is the way it is told on screen. The "coolness" factor if you like. So I'll rephrase my original post so you can better understand what I am trying to say. Anime may not directly be responsible for the storyline, but it does have a major part to play, and if it wasn't for anime and comics, the style and feel of The Matrix (which is what makes it so brilliant) would not be what it is.
