HOLY FUCKING SHITBALLS!

I guess he always assumed that making a game while NOT owning the IP would automatically result in Disney keeping some kind of creative control over it. Maybe a deal was struck that specifically granted him complete creative freedom.
-
Judging by the fact that Craig Derrick has been teasing something MI related for ages now, and that the Anthology had sold rather well (about 7000 copies, according to Ron), I wouldn't put it past Disney to agree to give him a chance to tackle the dormant franchise.

Ha: π I beat #Mojole and all I got was this stupid t-shirt. 2/6 ππ€ππ€π€ πππππ https://funzone.mixnmojo.com/Mojole/

I felt (over)seen again.

But just to clear it up: those backgrounds are from the game Eagle Island: Of course, this doesn't mean Ron's post has to be a prank, because he didn't post those images.

Telltale's Sam & Max games getting remastered

Box design perfection by @Jake -
After a bit more tinkering, I've replaced my old version of the Edison painting with a much more detailed one. To whoever wants to put this beauty up on their walls, enjoy! EDIT: I couldn't fully let it go yet, and added a few more oil paint strokes to the image. Now it's as beautiful as these people can get.

The Monkey Island box set from Limited Run Games

Technically, there wouldn't be a reason to use ScummVM for this though. It would probably be much easier to just extract all the scripts from the game and make a separate "Virtual Machine" to use them in a game engine like Unity. Using arbitrarily upscaled assets in there would be no problem whatsoever. Legally, this would be just as much of a problem as creating upscaled assets for use in ScummVM. I think on the art side the main hurdle ARE in fact the sprites. Not only are they compressed and downscaled to a size that makes upscaling them problematic, they are also split and segmented into so many different assets (more often than not with different limbs on different layers) that rebuilding the correct animations out of them is a huge undertaking. There are probably ways to extract the rules and coordinates on how they are assembled in-game from the data files, but I'm no coder. Nowadays, it makes no sense to differentiate between "fan-made" and "professionally made" games, because everybody has access to the same tools, and talent can be found everywhere on the internet. Where professional productions need a budget to pay for the work done, fans tend to put in even more work, out of passion, for free. Having access to existing assets (like voice files and obviously background images) reduces the workload immensely too. But in the end, it's all still in vain. A fan-made remake of CoMI, however possible it might be to be created by fans, wouldn't make it past an announcement before the Disney lawyers bring down the gavel on it. -
The Monkey Island box set from Limited Run Games

At the very least the MI1 and MI2 SEs brought us amazing recordings of the soundtracks. -
MI1's pattern is in a different style, so I'll need to add more features for that to be replicated. Am I missing any other marbled paper patterns, except for MI1?
-
Some of you might have seen this on Twitter already, but I'll add it here anyway. I've tried to recreate the marbled paper frames of the classic boxes in Substance Designer, and this is where I'm at currently. Maniac Mansion: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - The Action Game: Loom: Zak McKracken: Battlehawks 1945: Pipe Dream: Night Shift: None of these are final, and the colors might be off, as I was just working off of different scans or stuff from the web. I guess I'll keep working on these, as some aspects of the paint-in-liquid effects of the original papers aren't fully captured yet.

I've noticed that I haven't replied to this. I guess this is the photo you are talking about: My old version was made from a different photo, with much worse quality. Steve recently re-posted this one on Facebook, so I took a stab at it myself.

The Monkey Island box set from Limited Run Games

I finally got my box... luckily no damages. And, to my surprise, the USB drive works without problems. -
I guess you're absolutely right. Obviously I was just as touchy back then, or it wouldn't have bothered me that much. But yeah, that's literally in the past, and I guess it just came back up, once I saw my posters used in the Double Fine book (which is a pet peeve of mine, as you probably know by now).

Oh yeah, the separators were added in November... not sure if they help or hinder clarity. And obviously most games are still missing them. I haven't touched the CMI ad in ages. The current hurdles are a) matching the colors of all sources and b) somehow reconstructing the shoreline. Fun-fact: It was painted my Michael KΓΆelsch, the artist who went on to paint the EfMI cover artwork. My sources are the French, English and German version of the ad:

I don't know if this is just stupid though... it was a decade ago π

The Dark Forces poster is based on the official promo poster:

As in "invented them"? Well, that's only true for the DOTT Star Wars poster, which was completely built by me. For the others I usually rebuild all credits (except for the GF and FOA posters), as text most of the time doesn't look good enough once upscaled to poster size. It's always fun trying to identify which fonts are used. I am toying with the idea to have a separate thread where I share all my scanned or recreated logos and list the fonts that were used.

Yesterday I posted this: We'll see if he reacts to that.

He made the comments in the thread two days after the Twitter post, so maybe he at least had a slight change of heart. And getting a (mostly positive) blog post by him is obviously very flattering. The jerk comment can only be meant tongue-in-cheek... guess in my memory it was much more severe (plus I obviously dimmed out all the positive things he had to say).
-
You're right, it was on Twitter:
-
The weird thing is, that not many boxes DID actually have the developers' names on them. I think MI1, MI2, Grim, Full Throttle and DOTT are the only ones (and a few Star Wars games).
