I still haven't been able to play Return (and probably won't until this weekend unfortunately) but now it's a good time to rank them, since I haven't been tainted by Return and played the other 5 pretty recently (MI1 and MI2 a year ago and Escape and Tales months ago) 1. Ok, I know it's a bit of a stretch (it is a ReMI box set and not a collection after all) but I would really appreciate it if the first two games (EGA version for MI1 possibly) were collected as a bonus in a USB. No special edition, or anything like that, but playable without ScummVM. Kind of like having Maniac Mansion when you buy Day of the Tentacle, only not in-game. Other than that, soundtrack and art book would be very nice 👍🏻

I'm not saying he CAN'T do it, I'm saying that if he did (in this context with the last three games being canonical to his) then I probably wouldn't like it, and stated my reasons why. I could accept it more if it was that fabled Monkey Island 3a that would have continued from 2 ignoring all the other games entirely. Also this IS Ron's Monkey Island game, if he changed his mind and changed the dynamic of Guybrush's and Elaine's relationship from what he originally wanted, then it means that he thought it was the right call (along with Dave and the rest of the team).

Yes, this. Also let's not forget that in Tales Guybrush literally dies and comes back to life thanks to the power of LOVE! Yeah, but some pairs are inevitable, permanent and immutable. Why couldn't it be so for Guybrush and Elaine? The majority of Monkey Island games now go with this idea, why would the last one need change it? Because Ron didn't like the idea? If it doesn't serve the story in any real meaningful way, and there's no reason for it to change outside of the pettiness of "I didn't like the idea", then I'm glad they didn't change it. Yes, but the last time they had a bad spot was after the game that ended with a young, inexperienced Guybrush saying "uh oh" to a comment Elaine made about "something her husband would say" or her telling him to shut up after Guybrush tells her "it's not the size of the boat". This time would be after not only their marriage in Curse (which could have gone badly if the team of Monkey4 wanted it to and I probably wouldn't have had a problem with it), but after the ending of Monkey5, where their love saved not only Guybrush from the dead, but "killed" LeChuck. Sure, many years have passed, but it would take a pretty darn good explanation for me to accept that "yeah, I guess they don't talk anymore 🤷🏻‍♂️"

Yeah, completely agree with this. Depends on the definition of "being in trouble". If it means "they're having a fight that can and will be resolved" then it's ok. If it means "they broke up for reasons unknown to us and now they hate each other" it comes right out of left field. Moreover, I don't really want my pirate adventure game to be about marital squabble

I'm on the same boat of people that probably would have hated it if Guybrush and Elaine got divorced or whatever. It's not really about them being "cute" together or them having this long incredible romance story, it's about Curse of Monkey Island and the subsequent games establishing that they love each other, that they grew as people and that even in bad situation, they are there to support each other. It would be completely retconning the previous three games. They already had their "bad relationship" moment in Monkey 2, and that led to them being separated for 2 years (according to Tales) because that idiot Guybrush wanted to find Big Whoop and Elaine left him to do it alone. In other words: Just let them be happy, man!

I'm actually guessing the whole carnival part will not be a simple cutscene that explains what happened, even if it's with weird stuff. I'm hoping it'll be a playable part. Maybe we get stuck on the park and by examining things Guybrush starts making comparisons (like we all did with the fact that the park is actually a messed up Booty Island) and starts to remember things. If they did try that hard to stay consistent with MI3 like they said in interviews, then we know Guybrush escapes with a bumper car, and maybe we'll get to do that, but it seems unlikely to me... It's probably some time-warp voodoo stuff. The other games happen, but somehow Guybrush escapes from Big Whoop and skips those and starts from this game, but maintaining his memories from previous games (?) (It's a stretch, but that's the weirdest thing I could think of...) Edit: or maybe we just have to make that hangover remedy to stop being a kid and make a bumper car float to escape 🤷🏻‍♂️

I get that "canon" is a cool concept and sometimes, but I feel it works better when there's a clear vision behind it. To me, it seems that Star Wars never had a clear vision of canon and that Disney is trying to rectify that, but people can ignore it if they don't like that direction. There were already at least other two continuations of the original trilogy in the EU (if I'm not mistaken), and there still are, so if somebody prefers those he can still regard them as canon. And it's not like saying "but the creators said it's not" can invalidate that. It's a work of fiction, not history. That's why I never understand fans of something saying that "they ruined it" whenever a new sequel/spin-off/remake/etc. comes out. "He said trying not to look at Marvel comics"

I'm pretty sure Curse has the most number of chickens, while Tales has none (I think)... I'd go with smallest numbers of seagulls next

That's unfortunate, there's actually a big fan community for point and click games. There were people trying (and failing hard at it) to make some kind of Monkey Island 5 before Tales was announced. I remembered I felt very disappointed at the time, when Sam and Max wasn't dubbed I thought "well, it's not that famous, I guess it makes sense..." but I was expecting an italian dub for Tales. It surprised me even more that the Back to The Future and Jurassic Park games weren't dubbed, and that's a big gigantic franchise. It kind of still burns that Return is not dubbed in other languages other than english. I mean, Disney does have the money to do so... Broken Sword 5 was dubbed, and that was way smaller budget, I think...

Meanwhile, while you were all jumping in the hype train in the Telltale forums, I was still a kid, learning to speak english thanks to Tales of Monkey Island, because it was the first game that didn't have an italian dub, and no subtitles, but I still needed to play. I always wondered how come it didn't even have italian for the subtitles, was it a decision in Telltale? I remember that Sam and Max season 1 had different languages for subtitles (even though there were some errors with the italian translation), but I think that for season 2 onwards was only english(?)

Question: Do you think having these problems made MI1, 2 and (to lesser extent) 3, worse games that if they didn't? If they remade MI1 today, would you guys want them to change things so that it would be fairer for new players? (letting people repeat hints in dialogue trees, making the plank different from the rest, remove pixel hunting, etc...)
