Agh. I don't want to read this for fear of spoilers, but I'm glad we got an interview with him (I've skim read a bit). I'm sure he's a great dude.

The danger in following a walkthrough is that you miss all of the other little details. I've probably written about my experience with Monkey 1 before, but here it is again: I fell in love with the game from the Amiga Power review of it... I just didn't have the RAM upgrade that allowed my Amiga to play it. I got myself a copy of the game from a friend (hey Ron absolved me from my childhood piracy when I backed Thimbleweed Park!) and waited with the disks until I eventually got the RAM required to play the game for my birthday, many months later (felt like a whole lifetime!). When I finally got the RAM upgrade, it was time to put these mysterious disks in and see what the game was about. I loved it from the opening appearance of the LucasFilm logo. The music was incredible. I say through the entire thing and the game just kept on giving. It was one of the few times in my life where my expectations didn't destroy the reality. The game was as good as, or even better than, I imagined. I felt someone had reached out directly to me, and my sensibilities. I adored it. For some reason I thought the entire game was just on Melee Island. I thought when I got the ship from Stan that the final disk (#4) was going to be used for a big animation or something. I couldn't believe it when I actually got to go aboard and enjoy that fun little self-contained puzzle. It was a nice breather after the long time I spent on Melee... but LO! if I didn't then get to spend disk 4 walking around Monkey Island itself! I honestly don't know why I was so surprised. I guess I was 12. But I loved it either way.

Return to Monkey Island [SPOILER FREE]

I think one thing about Curse that's under-appreciated (and was missing in Escape) is the attention to detail. There's a seemingly endless number of little bits of joy to discover. The developers seemed to "get" the adventure gamer mentality: Pick up everything, talk to everyone, explore every dialogue branch, try everything with everything. And they rewarded that behaviour. There's just so many nice little touches all the way through the game. -
Return to Monkey Island [SPOILER FREE]

Really hard to tell. As Jake said, the world felt smaller in 2009. I would guess the REMI will hit lower than Tales... but it's just a random guess. I was late to the Curse party. I played and loved the originals so many times, so when I heard that Ron wasn't involved, I guess I just thought it would be a disappointing spin off. Eventually I purchased a copy and decided to give it a go... it would such a delightful surprise. It's a fantastically designed and polished game. They got SO much right. The voice acting (barring Elaine), the music, the atmosphere, the humour, the puzzles. Yes, it's maybe lacking the edge (if that's the right word) of the first two games, but there's so much to recommend it. In hindsight it's the one I'm most likely to pick and play, if I feel like a MI experience. -

Political? Yeesh. Time will tell, I guess... π -
That's what I was expecting, but Otis still had nothing to say. I think it's a bug. (One thing I did differently: I spoke to Otis before the PSSST scene.)
-
I'm pretty sure there's a bug where Otis is supposed to tell you he needs a file or something? Or to keep going on about the carrot cake? Or about the rats? Whenever I speak to him, though, he says he doesn't have anything more to add. It's only the really obvious item "gopher repellent" that gives you a clue that he might want it?

Return to Monkey Island [SPOILER FREE]

That's a good question. I don't think you can review a game on Steam without owning it, but Metacritic, etc. are open to abuse... I kind of thought the trolls would have given up by now, tired of ranting... but they still don't seem to have lives, judging from the Steam forums -
Letβs see who can make an accurate prediction about something we donβt know yet. Challenge: Make ONE prediction, and weβll see who called it most accurately when itβs all said and done. My serious prediction: If thereβs a common element to a Ron Gilbert game itβs a very clever structure. From MM to The Cave to TP, Ron likes to have a really strong structure. Something more than just gameplay or story. Even in MI he opened the game world up and allowed us to solve the three trials independently of each other, at the same time. (And then expanded this to the four map pieces in 2.) It was a great structure that stood out and reduced player frustration. So my prediction is that Ron will have added a new clever structure to REMI, the likes of which weβve not seen before in a MI title. Whatβs yours?

At least they gave a time. The launch of Tales left me traumatised⦠(sorry Jake)

Yes, the release time makes perfect sense. I hate rolling things out outside of office hours. It's not just a case of having to work outside of normal hours, but also if anything goes wrong with a service/partner you're using, you can't get anyone on the phone to help out. 9am PDT makes perfect sense... sadly.

Damn. The whole day off and it drops at 5pm!!! Oh well.

I'm glad I stopped watching around Monkey Island Monday 3... I haven't seen anything since then and I can't remember what I have seen in too much detail. It's going to be a very fresh game for me! -

I ran a couple of polls on the bigger LucasFans Facebook groups (18+K members). It was something like only 2% were actually upset with the artwork. Most were for positive or passive about it. Trying to find the screenshot I took of the poll! -

The last hours are the longest...!

Should we start sooner? π€ Those are two very different times? (Also releasing 12am EDT would mean 9pm PDT the previous day (Sunday), so not too likely, unfortunately.)

Return to Monkey Island fan art, music, etc!

(Aside: Incidentally, why has nobody ever made a rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle merch offering? Even just a keyring or something?) -
Is that true? If so, that definitely backs up the morning PDT theory. Here's some times based on that: Los Angeles (PDT) - 8am Houston (CDT) - 10am New York (EDT) - 11am London (BST) - 4pm Berlin (CEST) - 5pm Seems goddamn cruel to make me wait until 4pm, but it seems likely!
-
Does anyone know what time on Monday we should all be expecting ReMI to drop? Will it be a global drop, or will it roll out across time zones? And what about different platforms? Will Switch be different to Steam? What do we know? What don't we know? CONFIRMED: BOTH STEAM AND SWITCH ARE... Los Angeles (PDT) - 9am Houston (CDT) - 11am New York (EDT) - 12pm London (BST) - 5pm Berlin (CEST) - 6pm Sydney (AEST) - 2am (Tues 20th September)
