  1. πŸ‘• I beat #Mojole #147 and all I got was this stupid t-shirt. 4/6 πŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ–€ πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€ πŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ–€ πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š https://funzone.mixnmojo.com/Mojole/
  2. Man, I literally said "more cartoony than the VGA versions". I'm only talking about comparing SOMI VGA. The other versions of Cobb are the same level of cartoonishness. And yes, I think Loom looks quite cartoony. Again, not like Bugs Bunny, but more like a graphic novel. Same with SOMI EGA. It just doesn't look photo realistic, nor is it attempting to, where the VGA portraits in SOMI clearly lean towards that.
  3. Not necessarily. There could be a building behind the church we can't see. And the Fester could be hiding in the shadows, waiting to pop out once Guybrush has turned the corner. It's always been #4 to me!
  4. I don't know if you're getting triggered by the word "cartoony"? I'm not saying it looks like Bugs Bunny, just more cartoony than the VGA versions. There's an obvious difference in styles, even with Cobb, so it's just finding a word to describe that difference...
  5. Hmm. Cobb looks more like a cartoon in every version compared to SOMI VGA...
  6. Yeah, for something that gets bandied about a lot, I wouldn't mind seeing the original quote!
  7. You baffle me because you clearly state several times that MT-32 is your preference. Indy 3 definitely looked more photo realistic than the original EGA SOMI. Even Cobb became more photo realistic in McCaig's capable hands. It's not a judgement, just an observation.
  8. Gonna try out this poll feature! If anyone cares: The poll is anonymous.
  9. Hmm. I can honestly say that in 30 years of discussing these things, I can't recall hearing anyone ever say that. I've heard people say that's why RG didn't like them, though. From what I've seen, the overwhelming majority prefer the VGA/Amiga graphics, but there's been a growing appreciation for the EGA version recently.
  10. I certainly hope you're right! According to the Devolver website code, they'll be release on: Terra Nil = 1st June, 2022 (!) Wizard with a Gub = 1st August, 2022 (!) McPixel 3 = 1st December, 2022 Hmm...
  11. Wally B. Feed... as explained in MI2. I hope that was Guybrush forgetting and not temporary dialogue that never got updated. Also, that parallax was pretty jarring πŸ˜•
  12. Hmm. Let's be more accurate. You've heard ONE person (Ron Gilbert) say he wasn't a fan of the VGA portraits. Most fans, however, prefer them (possibly because that's the ones they were introduced to -- who can I say, I know I personally prefer them). This is why the VGA version is now canonically referred to as "A glorious and much-loved remaster". And here's an interview we did with Iain McCaig, the person who drew those portraits: https://mixnmojo.com/features/sitefeatures/Revealed-Iain-McCaig-the-man-behind-the-Monkey-Island-VGA-portraits
  13. Yes. Just a little Mojo hyperbole. But when perfection is just within reach, why settle for less? You mean besides the ones I linked to in Post #4 of this very thread? I think it may well have COME FROM a place of love and care, but I think having a tiny budget scuppered actual love and care from being included, as many other threads here have gone into lots of detail on. What "big names" were connected with the VGA CD version?
  14. Well, here's each one of your reasons (just because there's nothing else to talk about until later in the day when we get a clip of Elaine). 1. They'd only need to do 10 (in total) to take us to October. And they can stop MIM any time they want. I don't think this "points to September". 2. I hope so! This seems like the strongest indication. But still Devolver will make a decision based on more than "the game is ready" 3. True. Or it could be a guess by the dev... 4. I just can't tell what Ron thinks about such things. Would he like that, or would he hate that? Tricky to tell. Either way, bigger forces are more important than that alone. 5. GamesCom would be a good reveal for the release date (Aug 24 - Aug 28, 2022)... not necessarily pointing to September being the release date, though. I'd say the above point to: September/October (barring any unforeseen behind the scene shenanigans).
  15. A rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle?
  16. Yep, I agree. The developer who wrote that code probably had to put something, and so made a wild guess. I have to do similar things all the time... and release dates fluctuate even if such dates were accurate when the code was written. Basically, everything points to that date being completely unreliable. Of course, I want to be wrong! I really hope it is September!
  17. πŸ‘• I beat #Mojole #146 and all I got was this stupid t-shirt. 6/6 πŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ’› πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ’› πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€ πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ’› πŸ’šπŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ–€ πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š https://funzone.mixnmojo.com/Mojole/
  18. When you say "everything", what are you referring to?
  19. You can definitely feel it in ScummVM. I actually remember it being worse on my native PC back in the day. DOSBOX or DREAMM should also have an accurate representation of it... Definitely a good excuse to boot both games up either way (and maybe try DREAMM -- something I haven't had a chance to?). Other than the name LaGrande appearing (which is also where Ron Gilbert is from... La Grande, Oregon), the mixture of pirates and voodoo, and (I think) some mushrooms mentioned in the voodoo world?, I didn't spot much. Am I misremembering?
  20. I love it in every way... except for the fact it's the VGA CD version!
  21. That's some good science! πŸ‘ If anyone skimmed your post, here's the data in a more skimmable format. Previous games on Devolver's website: Card Shark Date on website: April 1st Actual release date: June Trek to Yomi Date on website: March 1st Actual release date: May Cult of Lamb Date on website: May 1st Actual release date: August Based on this data, we're probably looking at November/December as an actual release date for RMI... but even that's a wild extrapolation from a tiny sample size. But basically, the dates on the website are probably just placeholder that the developer had to enter based on a guess. They historically aren't related to actual release dates, so: Unlikely to be September.
  22. VGA CD... not VGA! VGA CD... not the VGA! To recap: EGA: The one true Messiah VGA: A glorious and much loved remaster (includes Amiga edition) VGA CD: A bug ridden abomination Special Edition: An abomination built of top of a bug ridden abomination
  23. Oh man, you couldn’t help yourself! I only talked about SCUMM interface iterations. It was you who said CMI and Full Throttle’s were the same because they were both verb coins. The interface includes the inventory handling, which is pitiful in FT (and Grim). And yes, there’s an annoying janky delay with the interface on FT, too. Just like there’s crappy control responsiveness issues in the action sequences. FT just pushed Scumm a little too far (but good on it for trying), which they fixed with Curse’s snappier, more responsive interface. (The difference to me felt like software implementation vs hardware accelerated… I don’t know exactly why CMI’s interface feels less sluggish than FT’s, but that’s what it feels like to me.) Why these undeniable facts require debate, I don’t know πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ The only opinion I’ll share on the subject is this: CMI had had the most enjoyable to use Scumm interface.
