Moderators are chosen by the staff. The staff try to pick people who get along with most of the community, have a fairly long record of contributing positively to the community, are interested in the sub-forum that may need help, and are familiar with the rules.

There is no application process or election, and if you're tempted to ask staff for a job, I would recommend you review the forum rules since it has something to say about that.

Sithy decided to delete any posts without links in the link thread (which is fine), so I'll reply here.

Hubby and I did indeed climb El Castillo, and it is extremely steep. The stairs are taller than they are wide, and you have to go down walking sideways, though the fastest way is actually just to sit down on the stairs and go down that way--safer too. We also went to the ball court, the hall of warriors, the cenote, and pretty much everywhere there except the section where they have the observatory--we just ran out of time. I'm hoping to go back some day and see that section as well. I loved visiting that site.

Happily, we aren't close to the flooding, so all is well by us.

The moderator control panel is a section of the forum where moderators check IP addresses, user names, profiles, give awards, etc. It's only accessible to staff.

Moderators on this forum are asked to be staff, they don't apply anywhere. They also are people who consistently follow the rules and don't get infractions.

Well, 'hell' isn't considered an expletive that needs to be filtered--it's considered a legitimate place for many religions, and on the scale of things, it's not as bad a word as some others.

Why in the world would I sue you for saying you're upset by someone? The thread got closed because the post should have gone into the already-open Clone Wars thread. We're trying our best to keep all the Clone Wars topics in one thread so it's better organized. You could rewrite it for that post, making sure to point out that it's your idea, rather than saying it already exists, and see what happens from there. Expect some flack--not everyone likes Clone Wars, and not everyone will like all your ideas on it. We'll make sure to watch for flaming, but understand that 'not liking your idea' does not mean 'not liking you', nor is that a flame.

I would come down but some idiot ran a stop sign and crossed the road right in front of me. I couldn't stop in time and ran into him. I was shook up but the kids and I are OK.
