Now that I have gone through halo I don't understand why it's said to be such a great game...it sucks!!!...the story wasn't very good and the whole thing with all the levels and rooms looking the same is crazy...I have never seen such a thing in a video game before...ONLY good thing about the game is the physics system...it's really fun driving that jeep thing around.

This is why I so much agree with toms in his assessment of reviews - read the text, pitch the score! Check out GameSpy, both their Halo PC 'perfect' review, and their assessment on the '10 most overrated games' (everyone join me in a 'hmmm...' over the delicious irony connecting those two things). The game was really <6 hours, stretched to ~10 but doing copy-and-paste level expansion. Then ask yourself if that is worth a full price game? For me ... I don't know, haven't decided yet - but with XIII and Max Payne 2 out in the next week or so, and I'm still finishing NWN:SoU and replaying JA, and then comes KOTOR and NWN:HoU and then DX:IW ... during which I'll finally get in some JA MP, as well as re-replaying and re-re-re-replaying JA SP ...

Of course, I didn't feel ripped off by MoH:AA's miniscule 8 hours, because it was a tasty game ... so Halo might feel pretty good ... or not.

Meh!

You know what, I was gonna right an essay about how wonderful this game is, pointing out each and every awesome detail, but I decided not to bother. I think I'll let all the reviews and 9.7 - 10 ratings across the board speak for themselves. I bet half the people who don't like this game didn't even bother to read the storyline behind it before they put the disc in. And to say that all the levels are the same is just plain ridiculous. Did you play the game with a blindfold on?

How people don't marvel at how utterly brilliant this game is is beyond me. Halo, to me, is perfect, and quite simply the best FPS I have ever played (and I've played a hell of a lot as that is my thang).

I haven't played the PC version, so I can't comment on whether it is a good port or not, but I've completed the xbox version numerous times. This is a game you simply want to keep playing.

Halo 2 is my most anticipated game, and I for one will be camping outside the shop the night before it is released.

I got Halo for PC this weekend, and its great. This is the first time that I ever played it. I cant wait for Halo 2. I just may buy an X-Box to play it when it comes out. Maybe they will release a PC version along with the X-Box version, but that is wishfull thinking. Has anyone seen the eight minute footage of Halo 2 from E3? I downloaded it last night and it looks great, with all its new special features and stuff.

I have no doubt that it is a great, but that doesn't mean that everyone will like it. I don't put Half-Life in my top 10 for FPS, but know it belongs in the 'Official' top 10.

Many people are reacting to the hype. That will naturally happen to a game whose high review scores seem to take on a life of their own (like KOTOR - I've seen reader reviews of 1/10). The game is getting ~90% average on GameRankings, and that seems pretty reasonable to the reviews I've read. It is things like the GameSpy review that bug me. Plus - there have been several Halo-ish games for PC in the past two years, so we non-XBox'ers may not get the plot allure.

Again, not knowing the game first-hand I can only speculate that GameSpy seemed to be talking about areas withing levels and not levels themselves. I think they said in terms of levels that it was an awesome, tight 6 hour game that was stretched to 10 hours by increasing areas within levels by repetition.

And another thing on reviews - short games *should* get a penalty - worse, I think, than daring to use the Q3 engine. It should take more flaws to capsize a 20+ hour game (JKII, JA) than a <10 hour game (MoHAA, Halo, etc).

A final thing - you shouldn't have to 'read the storyline' to enjoy a game. The game should tell the story, or it is a failure. I don't know the game, so I can't comment.

Yes, I do realize not everyone will like it, but saying "it sucks" is ridiculous.

I agree this game has been hyped beyond belief, so it's understandable that many people are disapointed by it. Same can be said about Matrix Reloaded etc.

Yep, there have been a few Halo rip-off's since this games release which doesn't help. I feel they waited far too long to port it to PC. I actually wish they didn't port it, so that it could remain an xbox exclusive and not seem like an 'old' concept now.

That's just it, it does tell a story, and a brilliant story at that. It's very deep with a few twists along the way that hold you captive to find out it's conclusion. One of the best game storylines ever imo. I mentioned that you should read the manual introduction storyline because it's adds just a little background to the game instead of just chucking you in at the deep end without having a clue what is going on.

So as you can see, I do agree with a lot of what you are saying.

Absolutely agree ... people who go around saying things 'suck' or are 'the worst ever' or whatever ... either are the type who go around calling anything they don't like 'gay', or just need to play more bad games ;)

I was going to leave the whole Matrix thing out of it, as 'bashing by analogy' tends to have unintended effects.

Now here's a question - while Halo in general is a known quantity, on the PC it is just out, where other games have already tread most of the same ground.

I always like to look through the manual, usually during install. If it is in a spiral notebook (like Neverwinter nights) you know there is some work ahead of you ... but too many games manuals now consist of install instructions, controls, quick troubleshooting, and credits. Almost like the game is so shallow they are embarrassed to actually write the plot out. Instead they give you the premise - you are X, out to save Y from Z.

So as you can see, I do agree with a lot of what you are saying.
True. The only the only difference is in our preference in FPS games ... which, of course, is why the FPS genre is so large ...

In the end, the more good games the better - some people feel the need to beat down other games to make their favorite look better. To what end?

So true about the NWN manual. I mean DAMN that took some reading lol. :D With Halo however, after playing the game, the storyline had me so gripped that I wanted to read "The Fall of Reach" and "The Flood" books, which accompany the game. My gaming experience is all the better for it.

Our preference in FPS games is not that different actually. Half-Life is my second favourite FPS game. It held the top spot in my mind for many years until I played Halo. I spent 2 years of my life completely addicted to TFC, and no doubt when Half-Life 2 is finally released, I will be just as addicted to that. ;)

heh, i remember when NWN, I had to choose a book for a book report, so the next day I came to school, and when I was called in english, I went to the front of the room, held up the manual and said "This is my book." I got 3 week's detention, one and a half month grounding, and caused mass hysteria in my class.
