Zoom Rabbit
Poop + fan = *splat!* Well, I guess we know why you're called 'Rush' now, eh? I am a bark-eating hippy liberal, although one with an open mind; hence, I listen to your radio show on occasion. I give your opinions a fair listen, and what I find is this--you're as firmly entrenched a partisan as I am. Admit it. But...it does seem that we have something in common after all. In my home state of Oregon, marijuana has been legalized for medicinal use. Lucky for me, in constant pain from two on the job back injuries, that there is a natural, non-addictive physically pain medication available for long-term pain control. The other option, drug-wise, would be the manufactured opiates (oxcontins and the like) that you seem to favor...and which, unfortunately, are more strongly addictive that their herbal competitor. So, Rush, my proposal to you is this--move on out to Oregon. We could get you a pot prescription, and we could grow a little happy patch of ganja together out here in the bracing mountain air. Heck, it would be good for your health. Lose the *opiate* dragon, and try a better pain medication. You know that stuff will kill you sooner or later anyway, right? Well...pot wouldn't, my friend. Important disclaimer: Kids, don't smoke pot or pop pills. Unless you have a prescription. (No picts due to crappy Mac today. Sorry.)
Ikhnaton
too bad pot is federally illegal and since when is pot not addicting?
Zoom Rabbit
Yes, it is too bad it's still illegal federally. It's a massive legal battle still ahead, but one which has not yet killed the medicinal marijuana program in Oregon. You have a valid point about addiction, Ike. I'd always been told that pot had no physical addiction associated with it...and true enough, when I've gone without I've never experienced the kind of cravings I did when I quit smoking cigarettes. However, I am not all people...and when I did a Google search on the matter, I did find research to suggest that it just might be. Note--physical addiction (and by that I mean physical biochemical dependancy, not 'psychological' addiction) to a substance can be experienced by some but not all of the populace to a given drug. Take alcohol for example...some folks MUST have it EVERY day, while I can go two months without a drink and never give it a thought. Here are two websites that purport addictive qualities to marijuana: Rehab FYI and NIDA study, and here is one which takes the other view: Marijuana News.Com. Kids, read up and make up your own minds about the matter...but I will say again: Don't smoke pot. Or pop pills. Unless you have a prescription. I'm firmly opposed to almost all medicinal things (I ain't one of those crazies though. you know the kind) because we are engineering our own demise through the creation of the superviruses. We're too over medicated as is. Plus I'm not a fan of the ganja at all or however you hippies spell it. PS I can't hear your probably valid arguments up here in my ivory tower. Cmdr. Cracken
I agree with Nute on teh account that we use medicines for everything and the kitchen sink. Flu vaccine? PFFT! i'l take it like a man, and deal with it. Strep? immune by now, as my family has had it, me being the only one not, all at once, several times. Viruses can come, but i'll fight everyone of them off...except that HIV and the Ebloa thing(s). That's just....*shivers at Ebola*

Congratulations--you spelled it perfectly. Your card is in the mail. Down on medicine because it affects the health of mother Earth proper? In the larger picture, I suppose that makes sense when it comes to cures and preventative therapies...but how can symptomatic medication affect the flow of Mother Nature's evolution? If it doesn't affect survivability, it doesn't affect the big picture. Or something.

Zoom Rabbit
Originally posted by Redwing Wait...something wrong with that link... "National Enquirer", huh? Isn't that, like...a tabloid...and stuff? True, it was National Enquirer that broke the story. Unlike the double-headed alien baby or the evil clown traumatizing newborns in the maternity ward, this story is 99% probably true. For a more reputable viewpoint, try Fox News. Look, I just want to be clear about one thing. My point isn't, 'Oh look at Rush--he's a junkie!' From what I've heard, he's a kind-hearted, generous and talented radio personality...someone who is no doubt above any kind of negative judgement the press may wish to make against him. He was probably (and here I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt) prescribed pain pills to deal with some kind of legitimate pain...and then got caught in a very real trap, one that could ensnare any of us: the horrible addictiveness of opiate-class painkillers. Some abusers of these drugs, which include the ever-popular hydrocodone and oxycontin, say that they are hooked after their first use. This suggests that opiates are as addictive as crack cocaine. Well. For some types of chronic pain, there is an herbal alternative that is at least less addictive than the pills. It's been the victim of widespread demonization for reasons more social than medical, criminalized...but our society is beginning to see that the long term pitfalls of the man-made drugs are severe enough that the herb should be revisited for medical use. The people are voting, and more and more states are legalizing it...where the federal line will be drawn, we shall see. Nute Gunray
You're just scared that Fox isn't afraid to tell it like it is. I don't think I'd change the channel if I had a news agency that ran stories like "Glorious American Forces plan to utilize massive laser to incinerate the unclean Mud Peoples" or "US Overseas Interest explodes, flithy foreigners suspected as enemies of the state." BREAKING NEWS: Depolymerization process capable of transforming Iraqi babies into oil! More as it develops.

Nitro
Just move to Canada... You can get a card to legally smoke marijuana for medicinal purposes. Hell, we've even got our own government-run pot growing operation. Though, according to the test users, it blows more cock then a shotgun on a chicken farm... We have better plants here in Oregon that we feed the cattle to keep 'em from stampeding. Socialized medicine = good; socialized drugs = bad. Mmmkay? As for the shotgun bit.
