The Cheat
I was just wondering. The Extended Editions of the fellowship of the ring as well as the two towers are split over two discs. I have one question. could this have been avoided? i think it is because there are 6 audio tracks. (recounts: yes 6 tracks) could they have put the DTS and Dolby Digital tracks on one disc and then put the 4 commentary tracks on the second disc? i dont think the commentary tracks need as high of a bit rate or whatever. it sounds like it would work to me but i may be wrong. what do you think. Samuel Dravis
Maybe, but they have to make it the same size as FOTR special editon, otherwise stupid people will complain.
legameboy
I don't see what the big deal is with 2 disks for the movie... EDIT: Nevermind, I think I was a bit harsh.
Sam Fisher
I don't have any problems with having it on two discs. Um, why do you?
RoxStar
Silly, he would have to either press the disc 2 button on his DVD player or get up and put a new DVD in. That takes a lot of effort you know.
The Cheat
yea i hate having my 5 disc player where i actually have to pick up the remote and change the disc. i know i am a lazy ass but i just think it could have been done better that is all i am saying. i guess that is just my opinion. i think the extended edition of fellowship is awesome, and i look forward to the two towers

The Cheat
the remote just seems so far away. im not lazy, i swear im not (come on, i run 6 miles a day), i just dont feel like reaching for that remote after running 6 miles when the movie is playing
BCanr2d2
So, you would prefer 2 full movie discs instead???? For all we know, the increased size of the video transfer (it is less compressed than standard for better picture quality) and the 2 audio tracks (DD EX and DTS ES) may still be bigger than the 9.4 GB possible. No manufacturer wants to do double layered double sided DVD's.
XERXES
more discs = more packaging to hold them = more money. its that simple
toms
splitting it over 2 discs also allows a better quality movie, as far as i know the bitrate for the FOTR extended was as good as superbit releases. Fitting a 3 1/2 hour movie plus extras and audio onto one disk would reduce the quality. for FOTR i didn't mind having to change discs at all. THe change was placed in a highly sensible place (rivendell) where it didn't interfere with any action and where it seemed like a natural place to take a break anyway. Also, with a 3 1/2 hour movie it is nice to be able to get up and go to the bathroom.
golferbr
I think it is just fine. So it is on 2 discs, what is the big deal?
Rogue15
it's annoying when you want to sit 3 hours without moving, looking straight into middle earth and forgetting where you are... then the movie stops halfway and you are sucked back into reality. if you have a big monitor and dvd drive on your computer, you could just rip the dvds and patch them up to make it a straight-foreward movie i guess. golferbr
I still don't see the problem. So you are watching the movie and the first disc finishes and then for a whole 7 seconds you have to get off you lazy @$$ and swap the disc. What is the big deal? The_One
I always need a break half way through anyway - either for the toilet or a coffee. 3 hours 40 mins is a long time to sit without a break. By the way, one week today and we get TTT extended Got mine on pre-order

Oh, but for only $.99(US) you can buy a 10 ft string, so you can attach the string to your finger and rope so you can pull the remote to you, but for $1999.99(US) you can get a conveyor belt to transport you from the couch to the remote! And for $1,999,999.99(US) you can get Aismov, whom will go and get the remote for you, since you are obviously too overworked and tired to fathom bringing the remote on the way to the couch.. I mean, I could see a small problem in getting up to physically change the DVD's, but when you have a freakin' 5 disc dvd changer...
