Have you ever gone through a ninja phase?

I’m really into a martial arts groove right now. What are some of the best movies that have good martial arts fight scenes? What about video games? Obviously The Matrix qualifies for both, as does Mortal Kombat. It's been a long time since anyone put out a really good ninja movie that I can think of. Ninja Gaiden is coming out for console and I-Ninja (http://www.ininjagame.com/) looks likes it’s an awesome little game. Suggestions?

Well, I played the game last night for the first time and I thought it was great. I don't think you have to be a fan of platformers in order to like it either. I happen to enjoy platformers anyway, but in this game your little ninja character is pretty cool, he has a pretty large assortment of moves like wall jumps, he can use his sword as a propeller and float, he can run up some walls and use a half pipe to build up speed, he can split enemies in half with his sword, he has a grappling hook, etc.

The demo has you going through these little training missions where you ride ontop of a rolling powder keg, and there's one that teaches you how to use the grappling hook. I think the actual game is much better than the demo, but if you haven't even played the demo yet, it's worth your while if you want a fun platformer.

So, am I the only person here on a ninja kick right now or what??

A martial arts fan. Kool. Soul Calibur 2 is a pretty good fighter. Viewtiful Joe is an addictive game, at least, in my opinion. Then there's that Bruce Lee game for XBox. I dunno what else there is out.

I'm not trying to be rude, but just a little advice: Edit your post next time.

Yes, I have Soul Calibur 2 ~ awesome game. I saw the Bruce Lee game, but I haven't tried it yet. Same with Viewtiful Joe, although I've heard great things about VJ. I'll have to try it out. I'm curious to know if anyone has gotten the gamecube version of I-Ninja and played the Pac Man Vs. that comes with it. The description of it sounds pretty fun;

Pac-Man vs. takes advantage of the connectivity initiative between the GameCube and Game Boy Advance by allowing one player (on the GBA) to control Pac-Man himself, while three other players (on the GameCube) will man the game’s ghosts and attempt to track down Pac-Man. The Player who catches Pac-Man then becomes the dot-gobbler.

Phase? I AM a ninja!

HEEEEEEEEE-YA!

;)

Jean-Claude has quite a few martial arts movies out like Kickboxer, The Quest and Bloodsport; those are kind of neat if you're into the fighting. The Bruce Lee game sucks but maybe you should rent Enter the Dragon? I'm fond of the snes Street Fighter games, myself.

I...am...ninja...maaaaadddd!!!! :D

If you don't believe me, click on Kunoichi in my sig. ;)

Good ninja games, hmmm, so many to choose from. My favourites are Shinobi, Alex Kidd in Shinobi World and The Ninja (Master System II), Street Fighter 2 (playstation one) and Kung Fu Chaos, Soul Calibur 2 and Dead or Alive 3 (xbox). There are quite a few ninja games on the horizon. I-Ninja and Ninja Gaiden you have already mentioned, both of which look excellent. There is also Red Ninja: End of Honour and Tenchu: Return from Darkness to look forward to on the xbox. A couple of others that need mentioning are Shinobi and Nightshade (formerly Kunoichi) for the PS2.

Ninja films. Again, so many to choose from. Of course there is the recent Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon which is an excellent film. Others I highly recommend watching are The Seven Samurai, Drunken Master, Game of Death, Iron Monkey and Ninja Scroll (anime).

Ninja music, yes ninja music. There is a really really cool tune called "Ninja Tune by Hexstatic". If you can get a hold of it, do. ;) Check out "Kid Koala - Emperor's Main Course" too. The best album for Ninja Fans is Xen Cuts which you can buy from http://www.ninjatune.net. It is one of my favourite albums and has both of those tunes on it.

I've probably left out a whole load of games and films that I love, but these are the ones off the top of my head. :)

The old school TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) rules....I haven't seen the new one yet, so I really can't compare, but what I've seen from the video game it is almost identical, just with new animation

Soul Calibur 2 rules. Mitsurugi is my best, but he's a Samurai, not a ninja like Taki...and x-box Taki looks the best...those big, beautiful.....eyes...what were you thinking I was going to say?!? :p

I have a poster in my apartment that has Things You Learn from Video Games. One is, "Ninjas are common and frequently fight in public." Another good one is, "If you are driving and your car is destroyed, a new one will soon appear in its place." :D

:eek::p

I'm always in a Ninja phase...

One of my friends and I came up with a concept of a Ghost-Space-Pirate-Ninja that is also a Cobra operative (y'know, G.I. Joe's nemesis, Cobra?). It was rather silly...but we still got one of the other guys to come up with an illustration. :D

Definately try the game Oni - anime sci-fi ninja goodness with some really snazzy moves and disarming techniques. Enter the Matrix is a good bet too.

As for MA movies, try something with Bruce Lee, Steven Seagal, Jet Li, Chuck Norris, Jean Claude van Damme and Jackie Chan. Hero is an awesome movie, though not many ninjas in it.

Bourne Identity has a very good fight scene in an apartment - brutal and decidedly realistic. The end fight in Legend of Drunken Master with Jackie Chan is unbelievable (check out that guy's kicks).

Damn, just returning from Aikido practice and seeing this thread makes me drool...

…and I too blame it on the TMNT. SC2 is a competly kickass game, its on top of my wishlist. I have a PS2, so no gadget-filled Link, no deadcool Spawn, but crappy litlle Heihatchi. (ok, hes not crappy, but the other 2 would kick his ass)

I am a proud owner of a blue nuchaku, it hangs on the wall next to the ESB poster.

I mostly use a cool ninja skin made by sightsod, unless its a pure server…

BTW is the new TMNT series any good? its not aired in Norway. (but the DVDs are out. strange)
