Voilence in Indy films

The film censors must have been smoking pot when they classified Raiders of the Lost Ark as a PG. Allow me to explain:

-Guy with spikes stuck in his body, blood around them.

-A shot of the exit wound (blood coming out) when some guy is shot in the head.

-Another guy is shot in the head with blood coming from his mouth.

-A man is rather bloody after being hit several times and is then chopped up by a plane propeller.

-Grotesque ending with exploding and melting heads.

-Bloody results from gunfire seen on numerous occasions.

The other films still had blood and gore, but definetely a lot less of it. How does Temple of Doom enjoy this contreversy and raiders doesn't?

The Rock, True Lies, Speed, The Matrix, T2 and the Godfather films were just as voilent if not less voilent than Raiders. I hear parent groups complain about them all the time, but nothing is said of the Indy films.

Yes I realise there was no PG-13 (or "12", as we have in Britain) at the time but with these ratings around now shouldn't they be re-rated?

Discuss.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong though, I'm glad it got this voilence. Most PG-13 films are too afraid to show blood and go for the the 1 "F" word thing instead.

George: "Hey bill, lets count how many times they say f*ck in this movie"

Bill: "Ok... we could turn it into a parents review site!!! YEA!"

George: "Then our job will be looking for curse words and secks!!!"

i was never allowed to watch the end of that film when i was little. :(

eventually i had to sneak down one night while my parents were asleep to watch the end of the video....

Of course these days films that would have easily been 18 cert in the 80s are all just pg-13.... guess kids these days are more immune to violence and stuff.

Yeah, but God forbid if a kid catches a sex-refrences in a movie. I don't get why parents are less worried about violence than about sex.
