Arreat Posted January 4, 2004 Posted January 4, 2004 Im kinda looking for free forums I can add to my site, anyone know some good ones which include most if not all the features LF has to offer?
Father Torque Posted January 4, 2004 Posted January 4, 2004 I think I can help. I would suggest that you get phpbb. It has many features, and is by far the best free forum maker, its easy to use, and comes with hundreds of options and color schemes and themes. the website is here. Be sure to get the newest installment, and have fun creating your own free forum. BTW, It is a zip file, so you need to get WinZip, or an unzipping program to use it, if you dont have one already. Also, it may be confusing at first to make a forum, but it will come to you, if you try. You will also need webspace. Yahoo and Lycos are good hosters, that are free, and are easy to acces. Have fun

Acrylic Posted January 4, 2004 Posted January 4, 2004 Originally posted by ZBomber um, you don't..... Uplaod it to a server like Lycos. So that means that you jsut upload the zip file to the filespace?

Stop thinking everyone's referring to you, selfish git. Anyway, pbhpp is good. It's design is pretty good, besides the fact that it's alot different than vbulletin(the format Lucasforums is based on). (Spelling correction thanks to Joetheeskimo, that asshole)

And Arreat, if you want to take these geniuses' advice and use phpBB, go right ahead. But let me tell you one thing: you can't just upload the zip file. You have to unzip it with winZip or winRar (winzip.com/rarlabs.com). Or if you don't want to do all that work you can get a free forum at dk3.com that is based on phpBB with just about all the features. Or you can go to hyperboards.com or proboards.com which I find better than phpBB because they have a lot more post options and customization, although you can;t add cool templates and the such. So it's your choice. but believe me, I've had countless forums, and I know what I'm talking about.
Arreat Posted January 4, 2004 Author Posted January 4, 2004 Thanks, Joe I just signed up for Proboards its got everything I need! Thanks again.

You can edit the files in notepad, but don't do that until you learn some of the codes. Anyways, you can customize it once you've uplaoded the files and entered into your forum without manually editing any files. EDIT - Joe, hes right. VBulltiten Forums is the way he said it. People abbreviate VBulliten as VB all the time

Once you get to know how phpbb works you can customise it all the way you like. I always think its better you can manage/set up your own forum without it being doen by a third party. And since Ive had quite a few forums I promote phpbb as one among the best free ones. And if you can afford it, get VBulletin. So easy and evrything can be changed/set up. * Hugs his VB *

Agen Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 http://www.proboards.com/index.html P*ss poor easy to set-up, free and pretty decent (not as good as vb or phpbb though)

Joetheeskimo Posted January 6, 2004 Posted January 6, 2004 I already told him about ProBoards, man, and he said he's already set up his forums. I believe this thread is safe to be closed...
