The Passion

Hiyas people.... Anyone seen the Passion of the Christ yet? I saw it last Sunday. It was great! But Passion also brought up a topic in my mind: religion. My parents are Buddhist, I'm not really anything but I do believe in God and Jesus... so how about you guys? Seen the movie? Have any feelings about religion you would like to express?

Feel free to post.

I feel for you Mike....You've just opened up one nasty can of worms by making the topic general enough to include all people religious views, and any feelings in particular people hold towards religion. (That's right, I'm talking about you Kain ;))

I'm a complicated fellow when it comes to religion, and I actually haven't figured out where I stand yet. So I TRY to stay neutral in these debacles.

I think i'll see it for a laugh, or at least for entertainment...

Beeing a atheist and stuff, i don't think it's gonna leave a big impression on me, but it might open for interesting debates with Snoman21 ;) (that's right snow :D )

=P

I've seen the movie twice. I tell ya, Reading about Jesus and actually watching it are two totally different things. I myself being a christian for almost nine full years and a recently licensed minister of the gospel, it made me think. A lot. It made me totally re-examine my relationship with the lord.

All I can say is, Jesus owns.

Obi: I know what you mean I've read about Jesus but I never visualized it as well as Mel Gibson burned it into my brain... I can honestly say my eyes have watered(not cried mind you) during a movie....

Et: bah Kain will steer away from this thread (waves hand) you want to go home and rethink your life

Boba: what if they don't have testicles?

Ig: yes I think it was really well done also... the effects and the camera really put you there it was more of an experience for me than a movie it felt like... ohhhh I wanted to hit that priest so bad.... and the governor.... ohhhhhhh curse them!

IG - No, it's just over 6 hours. It was broken down and shown over here as a mini tv series. It is imo the best film based on Jesus ever made. I have it on DVD now.

You know thats kinda funny I misread and thought you said Jesus made movies.... '

But back on topic however, my stand on religion is wishy-washy as I'm not sure ATM.

Rox-Go see it you will enjoy it!

It's funny,.. but I just have no driving desire at all to see it. It's not that I think it's bad or wrong or anything,.. I just haven't been able to bring up any interest in myself to see it,.. even out of curiosity over the whole controversy aspect of it.

Maybe when it hits DVD...

AWW!! Cold, ET, cold.

So I'm anti-Religion, no biggy. I got invited by my VERY religious neighbor to go see this movie, but I of course refused the offer. Her 'Lord' was in her heart making her think of me (I've had a bit of the bads since about 2 summers ago), so I'm grateful for that, but I'll still ignore religion as a way of guiding my life.

Okay, my 2 cents are inserted, I'll leave the thread before I get too 'can-o-wormy'.

Interesting...

I'll think about watching it, I always wanted to know more about Christanity and Jesus and all.

I'm a Hindu and so I don't have just one but many gods. As for reincarnation, I believe that once you are turned off, you go straight up and stick around heaven for a while. When you feel ready, you can take the dive off to Earth and then, end up as if you have been woken from a deep sleep. Then, you are a baby and I don't need to give a life historyotherwise I would be spamming.:D

I haven't seen this movie, and admittedly am waiting to see it on dvd, so I can watch it on my own. With such a film, seeing it in a larger audience is a bad thing IMO, as it is imposssible not to be exposed to or be influenced by the emotionakl reactions of the other audience members.

anyhow, with the topic of religion - I am Islamic by heritage, not by practise. I have a great respect for the tenets of Jesus teachings(please note that Jesus is also a major 'prophet' in the Islamic holy text, the Kuran). For me, religious questions become as much philosophical as they are metaphysical. I have made these observations though, IMO:

*Religion is mankind's creation first, foremost and only.

*Religious teachings were our predecessors key mode of establishing a social and moral code.

*Evil is a subjective thing relative to the perceptions of man. Therefore, evil is perpetrated and perceived as evil by mankind alone.

*The interpretations of concepts that have been established for long periods of time, become skewed and warped to fit the philosophical climate of the day. This unfortunately, can lead to destructive/divisive acts, done in the name of 'religion'....

*It is unfortunate that science and religion are perceived as opposites

i'm highly interested in seeing it (hasn't come out over here yet though, and i'm off to japan for a month so i may miss it). However i don't think it will be worthy of all the hype and i think that cutting out all of jesus' message andjust concentrating on the suffering is a cheap way of trying to get to people emotionally.

Mel gibson also worries me...

but anyway, hopefully i'll get to see it at some point.

PS/ there was a thread about this in the senate chambers a while back... but as with most religion or war threads it just degenerated into people in 2 camps with highly entrenched views.
