With the huge success of the LOTR films, a trinity of geekdom has been created.... Star Wars, Star Trek & LOTR.....

I love Trek and LOTR, but I still think SW is cooler, and also perhaps more accessible due to its underlying themes, mode of depiction and overall corniness !

trekkies have conventions, made-up languages, hand signals and talk about all the made-up technology in great detail.

i'm a star wars geek yes, but i don't go to any conventions, never dress up, have never tried to learn Huttese and have never mulled over the inner working of a star destroyer.

I went with the Star Trek option after some consideration.

Before I start, debating this is like debating which was the biggest geek of the tri-Lams on Revenge of the Nerds ... sure you can come up with an answer, but does it matter? I'm a geek, you're a geek, we're all geeks and these choices are all geeky, so let's get over it and get on with our lives! ;)

First, Babylon 5 and that ilk are still just too fringe to capture the geek helm.

Next, Star Wars and LotR, while quite geeky, are based on fantasy realms (ok, that's pretty geeky) and therefore attract a certain amount of mythology / renaissance types, which is more artsy. Plus, they are very much character driven, which is non-geeky.

D&D is tremendously geeky - the more you get into stats and role playing the geekier it is.

But Star Trek, for all of the inherent techno-babble and sci-fi overload, is just the reigning king of geekdom ...

I wept when you and whoever else said SW is geeky...... :p How could you betray us................... :p

Agreed.

D and D is also pretty geeky. I mean, just look at this!

I've seen a 3D version of that :D It's just a parody :p

Oh, and Star Trek is the most geeky, mostly because i'm not into it :p

Well, I don't really like Trek, but...

I'm a massive Lord of the Rings fan (have been since I was 9), a big Star Wars fan (hey, what do you think I'm doing here?) and am also heavily into Babylon 5 (own all the shows on DVD/VHS - also, this is where my nickname comes from).

Does that make me geeky - or I simply have good taste in TV Shows/Movies? :p

Hold on a second ...

Some of my favorites are "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" and "Toxic Avenger" and noone will ever accuse *those* of being well acted or written ;)
