txa1265
Hey all: Strange thread, I know ... Just wondering about your favorite songs by the 'other' members of famous (or semi-famous) bands? In other words - this isn't about Lennon or McCartney, but about Ringo (yes, I heard 'The No-No Song' in AM-sterilized version as a kid ). Not about Sting, but Andy Summers. And so on. The song itself can be famous or not, doesn't matter. I'll start: 'Too Late the Hero' by John Entwistle (bassist for The Who). Mike

The_One
The stuff Jason Newsted did with Echobrain after he left Metallica is fantastic. Not like Metallica at all, but very creative musically, and some great songs. Then, of course, there's the thousands of side projects members of Pearl Jam have done over the years... Check out Matt Cameron's (drummer in Pearl Jam - previously in Soundgarden) band, Wellwater Conspiracy, for some inventive and awesome songs - he drums and sings, which is pretty impressive Stone Gossard (rhythm guitarist in PJ) is a member of a band called Brad - not all of the stuff is excellent, but most of it is. He has also made a solo album called Bayleaf, which is very "out there" but grows on your after a while. Other stuff I can think of... Jerry Cantrell (formely of Alice in Chains) has two solo albums out: Boggy Depot and Degredation Trip. Both these are truly amazing, and carry on the AIC legacy with plenty of great riffs and grundgy songs. There's also some very moving songs, especially on Degredation Trip, dedicated to the late Layne Stayley. Jim Martin of Faith No More went on to do a solo album called Milk and Blood. Jim is a superb guitarist, the best FNM ever had, and you can hear that on this record. It's pretty heavy, but it's an unusual sound - don't expect FNM, although you can hear recognisable elements in many of the songs (especially the cover of Suprise! You're Dead!). That should do for now

Poggle
I'll always remember Ritchie Sambora(sp?) of bon jovi fame and his disasterous solo album i forget the name of it, but not the pain my ears felt listening to it

Miko Reglia
There was Operation Ivy's first and only cd, "Energy", which has 27 songs on it, and is a really great punk/ska album. Operation Ivy featured two band members from present day's Rancid, Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman.

•-BLaCKouT-•
Back in the early 90's, (round about the same time as Bruce Dickinson was doing his first solo stuff), Iron Maiden's drummer Nicko McBrain released a single called Rhythms of the Beast. I believe he was doing a drum-clinic tour at the time. He described the single as "Heavy Metal... with Horns" (ie Brass Section). Now I know some of you are thinking "oh good, I like Less Than Jake & Jesse James"... well forget that, this was monumentally BAD Just... BAD... Didn't stop me from buying it though Gah, I was young at the time... B.
