Death to MusicMatch Jukebox

When I first tried MM several years ago, I thought it was the coolest thing since shaved ice. The way it organized my music, burned CDs, and printed labels made my life simple and fun. I went ahead and purchased all future upgrades for a flat purchase or about $40 or so. And used it alot.

What I HATE, is that every time I open this thing up, there is yet ANOTHER upgrade. This is the AOL of music player/organizers. Somewhere between countless versions 8.0, and 9.0 I lost all of my custom skins, and now my burn program will not work. Screw it. I use it for ripping, but I cannot get it to burn a CD anymore at all.

So do any of you have any suggestions for a good CD ripping/burning program? Right now I am using an outdated version of HP's Record Now for burning.

I'm still using MM for the ripping, but that is just about all that it seems to be good for these days.

Why bother? It was only a matter of time before you would find it for me. ;)

That, and I was heading out the door to work at the time. Don't have the time to do as much google research as you do I guess.

Musicmatch is almost as bad as WMP and Rio as far as bloatware goes...

There are great programes that do each individual bit of it's functionality....

Nero for cd ripping, dbpoweramp for ripping and writing decent quality mp3s, several freeware mp3 tagging studios and things for organising music and fixing tags... but they always seem to try and expand them into an all encompasing system that does everything... and the bloat causes it to do nothing well.

If you want an encoder... go for dppoweramp. If you want a ripper go for nero.

If you want a full on media library system then it gets trickier... i don't think any of them are that great.

J.River Media Center is ok, but they do a fair number of updates and you have to buy it. It has a few nice features like analysing tracks for BPM and volume and tempo. But a lot of unneccesary ones.

A couple of the open source media centre ones are ok, but all are a pain to install.

I use Nero or dbpoweramp to rip/encode, some freeware tagging util to fix the tags and then send it over onto my xbox and use xbox media centre to browse and play.

If anyone knows of a good lightweight "all-in-one" media jukebox/centre then let me know.. i'm not sure any actually exist though.
