If you're honest, and have watched the HL2 trailers, preview movies and whatnot, it looks a hell of a lot better than most of the crap the gaming industry churns out by the bucketload month by month.

It's not only hyped, but it's the PR that came along with it and the fanboys aswell which is why some like myself can wait for this game. The score seems a bit inflated for this game, so I say it better be that GOOD.

I'm waiting for the next gen cards (512) to switch from my RAEDON 9700 PRO 128 MB.

And the hype is pretty big, but like HALO 2 it'll prolly still be good.

Nope their cheap, damn cheap these days. Even a 9800 Pro costs like around $200 which used to be around $500 last time.

Right now there is actually no best card in the market. The only best cards now is the X800 XT PE and BFG GeForce 6800 Ultra OC. Why i know this? Cause experts still cannot confim which is better, the 6800 or X800.

They both seem to have their pros and cons. Like the 6800 has more power, performance and SM3, but requires a 12-volt and at least 480 watt power supply, while the X800 PE doesnt, but usually loses to the 6800 OC in almost every game.

FX5600 = 1st Gear

9800 Pro = 5th Gear

X800 PE = 8th Gear

>_>

That one you linked is for CAD users, for the guys who make computer animated movies *without having a supercomputer of CPUs make the final version*

Save yourself a $100 and juwst get a 9800pro

Oh, didn't see that :D

So I should get this? <--- So it would be this one right crow?[edit]

Sorry for hijacking the thread, just been needing to know this.

So if I got 30 fps in JA with the card i have on full graphics, what would I get with the 9800 pro?

Do not get the 9800 Pro 256MB, get the 128MB version and make sure it is 256-bit. Cause the extra $100 (For the 256MB) isnt worth the money since it has no difference in performance.

Btw, i dont think a X800 PE is worth it, the 9800 Pro is already good enough for almost every game in the world.

Actually, in Half-life2 it's been reported that you get around a 20fps boost at higher resolution levels(1280X1024, 1600X1200, ect.) with a 256mb card than with an 128mb card.

I highly recommend shopping on http://www.newegg.com for 9800 Pros. You can get that at a great price. :)

Perhaps I should consider a 256 MB version for the high res now. I may go 1280x1024, but it won't hurt if I go lower either way. May be a little extra, but that's alright for me.

100+ fps

With that card, your computer can become as cool as this bus!

60-80fps is easily playable though, and I'm actually pretty stoked that my 9800 Pro will run Half-life 2 welll.

I hope they get me the right card :/

My sister said something about not trusting the "12 year old forum people", and that radeon isn't as good as geforce at what I want it to do or something. :/

But eh, i'm still asking for the radeon 9800 pro 128MB 256 - bit.

Wait. I played CS:S and my fps always stayed at 60 fps. :indif: Holy crap, thats good for a comp like mine, and I had it at max graphics.

*Loves source engine*

So if I can run CS:S at a stable frame rate, will I be able to run HL2 with the same graphics?

My lousy cheap Althon XP2000 1.67 GHz is always bottlenecking my 9600XT! Im getting a new Abit NF7 w/ AMD Althon XP2500 Barton and clock it to 3200.

Should be able to, but expect performance to be worse though. HL2 is many times more demanding than CS:S.

At least many 12 year olds still know alot more than your sister. People always think that kids, especially young ones do not know anything about computer hardware, but they do not know that kids as young as 11 already know what is a video card.

Crap. :indif: Anyways, at christmas I want to get a new card but I'm having a hard time deciding which card. I could get a Geforce 6800 or a x800. I need one thats low price but will still give me good performance. Would be great if you could help me decide.
