Mono_Giganto
I don't have the greatest GMAX screenshopt in the wrold, if anyone wants to tell me how to get a more detailed one, go right ahead. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v168/Mono_Giganto/Pistol.jpg I went mostly off of this picture of the rebel blaster in Star Wars IV. I'd like to hear what people think of it so far; it is my first model. No real texture yet I just colored it in GMAX, about as far as my skills will go. Great Work!
TemporaryTomato
Another modeler! Yay! Your model looks good, but the grip is a bit too rounded IMHO. You may want to lower the amount of segments on those cylinders, too. Polys= baaad! edit: Doh! Forgot to ask, what's the polycount?
MasterKoon237
great job for a first model! look forward to hearing more on its progress!

Cylenders are at 10, except at the nozzle they're six.
TemporaryTomato
Well, assuming Gmax is like 3dsmax when it comes to checking polycount; *Open the File menu *Click File Properties *Click the Contents tab There you have the polycount. That's the way I do it, anyway. There's probably an easier way.
Mono_Giganto
Hmmmm, face total is 3031..... Back to work... By the way, is there an easy way for me to reduce the amount of sides the object has without recreating it? I can't reopen the parameters tab. If you havent used the edited the mesh you can just click on the cylinder and change the segments under the modifier pane(think this this one, its the 2nd one whichever it is)

I'll keep looking. Edit: Poo, I see the problem. Yeah, I'll have to re-add the cylinders.
TemporaryTomato
You can set all the segments to 1 to save a lot of polys. 3000 is a bit over the top.
Mono_Giganto
I'm done for today, tried to get it ingame to see how laggy it was, and uh I got an invisible gun. I'll get to re-adding the cylinders tomorrow. By the way.... If all goes well with this model.... http://www2.masterreplicas.com/StarWars/images/sw_prod_anh_stblastle_v2.jpg Maybe I'll make the attempt... Ranger Six
Nice work for someone that's new at modeling ! Though the usual mistakes that younglings make are made here too .
Lorden Darkblade
Very cool for your first model. I wanna learn how to model too
90SK
This is very cool, Mono, I would say "trying" is certanly an understatement. Keep up the good work!
Mono_Giganto
Hahaha, I found an older save of the gun, I can edit that, none of the shapes have become meshes yet.
T7nowhere
Looks Great Dude, you can optimize edit mesh objects by useing the optimize modifier. With the object selected. just select the the faces or polys you want to opimize and apply "optimze" its under mesh edit in the modifier pull down menu. Also don't forget to link your model before exporting it
Xavier2
The gun is very, very cool. I think you should consider joining the movie features project reffered in Xavier2 WIP thread. The team is having loads of fun experimenting and colaborating together. And we are, most certainlly, learning a lot with each other. Give it some thought... stingerhs
you know, with all the new models coming out, maybe you guys could collaborate together to release them all in one pack so that we wouldn't have to dl 10-15 different files. just a thought... anyway, that pistol looks great!! and did i catch you saying it was your first model??? dang, that is sweet. oh, and out of curiosity, who uses that pistol in ANH??? Mono_Giganto
All of the rebels in the opening scene use this pistol as they get boarded and pwned by Stormtroopers. All have to check that optimize option T7, thanks! While I'm on the subject, I tried to get it ingame quickly to see how it looked... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v168/Mono_Giganto/what.jpg Thought I'd put that up and give you all a laugh. Update: Added a bit to the model, still trying to see what it looks like ingame, and if I need to adjust it anymore. I'll try getting it into Jedi Academy if I have to simply for an ingame screenshot... of a game.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v168/Mono_Giganto/pistolupdate.jpg Edot: I'm having quite a bit of trouble exporting the blaster as a whole model. I haven't used ResetXForm, because when I do it messes up the model. Any way around this issue? ^^^
EnderWiggin
I am Dumbfounded! This Rocks! I think the model looks quite like the pic..... flawless to a Model Noob like me. I guess its back to the retexturing drawing board.... _EW_
