CIS or Republic, which is better?

As far as I can tell, the Republic frequently thrash the CIS. They have the heavy armour for the most part, and when it comes to infantry battles, the jetpack allows them to go into the rafters and rain death from above, as well as having more mobility.

The droideka just does not cut it as it's not manoeuvrable enough, and it's range of fire can be easily blocked by terrain.

Anyone seen anything to the contrary?

Stupid thread, you cant compare two extremly different faction.

The republic ha an advantege with the jet trooper, but thats the way it's supposed to be, also the droideka has serious advantege with the fact that that they have a shield. they are good in different areas like the jet trooper is good on open terrein whilst the droideka is champ in tight places.

The republic's biggest advantage is that as soon as the game starts half the CIS players switch sides and become jet troopers. If the sides are equal, they are about evenly matched i think, though an all jet trooper army obviously has the advantage on some maps. As long as the CIS team is half way competent the assault droids have no problem taking out armour, and the superior snipers can help the battle droids with the infantry.

Too be honest i only really use the droideka for taking far off CPs, but if properly supported they would probably do well. For example, if they work in concert with droid pilots in tunnels, the droideka can absorb enemy fire on it's shield whilst pilots fire grenades over it. Or assault droids could use it as cover to reload. Just think of it as a mobile barricade with blasters :p

I always said and keep saying that the republic have too much of an edge. Sure the droideka's have a shield, but jet troopers can easily outmanouvre them and take out their shields with two shots. Next to that, half of the republics team consists out of jettroopers (if not more) and there are always a few to take out the droideka's. In other words: the droideka's have to time or chance to be usefull, cause they are being destroyed by the jettroopers.

This all renders the droidekas useless. NEXT to that, there's also the superiority of jet troopers above normal infantry. Shots with the EMP launcher are one hit kills most of the time and the fact that the jettroopers can shoot from above to the ground gives them an even better advantage, since a near-hit is autmatically a hit (although the victim might survive one near-hit).

The assault droid is a good unit and is a good trial to create a bit of balance, but it still isn't there. There has to be a big change before I would call republic vs CIS balanced.

I don't think the Republic have too much of an actual advantage, its just that they're easier to play. One shot-kill flying missile launcher troops and the heaviest vehicles are easier to use than super battle droids and snipers.

Take the two pilot classes- The republic pilot can charge up his weapon and almost kill anything in a shot, maybe a couple of blaster shots to finish it off. He doesnt even have to aim that well, and it causes damage to nearby enemies In comparison the droid pilot has a grenade launcher which is difficult to use, especially against troopers fliting around the sky raining EMP on you. But once the player gets used to it, he/she has a one-shot-kill weapon with 15 shots, and if you heal/restock yourself thats a potential extra 25 shots. 40 grenades= a lot of dead clones. The lower reload time and longer range then puts him at an advantage over the republic version- especially as the clone pilot tends to crisp nearby friends by mistake (,sorry to any team mates i did that to by the way).

I'd always use the CIS if only because it's more of a challenge- and it's a no lose scenario. If we are defeated its game imbalance, if we win my team must be awesome :D

Now, back to batting troopers out the air with grenade launchers

The CIS is also much harder to master then the Republic which gives them an advantege over the CIS, since grenades are easy to use but not to master also the rockets are hard to master and hard to use becouse you have to aim more. As I said in my first post the jet trooper is not so hard to use as the droideka. The factions are to different to compare usefully.

The first weeks after the SWBF release the Republic Troopers domianted the onlineplayer maps and lot of guys including me found that the Clones were uber.

But it seams that people learned how to use each faction.

In the last couple of weeks i noticed that CIS troops won more and more matches. Also on Jetpack friendly maps like Kamino wich was won by the Jettroopers in less than 2minutes the Droids can win now.

I found this too- probably because its so sniper friendly. If the clones get bottled up in the facility the jetpacks are useless and the game is as good as over.

Yes, I too have noticed a small increase of the number of matches won by CIS, but still it's much less than the number of matches won by the Republic. Next to that, it may be true that you need to learn to fight with a particular unit to be able to take on the republic, but that goes only for those players that are stimulated to learn how to fight with units that usually lose the match.

To illustrate: you and some other guy learned how to fight with the battledroid... there are still 14 teammates that may not have learned to fight with them. There will always be players who are less experienced with the game, and haven't learned how to fight with the battledroid.

Another thing: you may learn overtime how to fight with the battledroid, but do you think the learning process of players using a jet trooper has stopped? Certainly not! Those players just learn how to pwn even more.

I prefer the CIS.

But jet-troopers really to become quite annoying when over used as there is almost nothing you can do to stop them. Usually you have them down to low health and then they become air borne and unless you have a ping below 100 there is pretty much nothing you can do except dodge the one hit kill emp rockets untill they land.

But the republic pilot is the worst in my oppinion as there weapon has auto-aim and if charged up is a one hit kill to most units.

IMO the republic pilot should have a shotgun like weapon like the rebel pilot and the jet-trooper should get either the weapon the pilot has or an emp greande launcher that doesnt explode on impact. You may say that then the republic will have no defence against droidekas but isnt that what the demolitions class is for, after all the droideka is a vehicle.

Darth Alec and Evil Dark Jedi , please try to refrain from attacking threads simply because you don't like the topic. Just trying to keep this an open and friendly place where people can post sincerely without fear of being ridiculed - thanks

On topic, I have to say that I have more fun with the Republic, and almost always play the Jet Trooper. I know much has been made of the Jet Trooper's power, but let's also not forget that the Jet Trooper has a very slow refire rate, and low ammo load. Still, the shots pack a good punch, but you've really got to make your shots count.

I have played the CIS a couple times, and mostly prefer the Super Battle Droid - it's really pretty powerful - especially it's wrist rocket launcher. The Droideka has power too, but it's rolling mode has something to be desired, and the "no strafing" is a huge liability.

So, I'd have to say the Republic. Great question.

I don't think the Jet-trooper is particularly over-powered, but an entire team of them makes for a quick and boring game. In Call of Duty the number of specialist classes could be limited, and I think that this would help a lot here- e.g only 1/4 of the team are allowed to be the specialist (jet-trooper/droideka/dark trooper/ wookiee smuggler). This would make sense as these classes are all quite rare compared to the others.

Only problem is people with faster connection times would nab all the specialists first, but if it makes the game more fun it might be worth a go as an option on servers.

That's a good idea in limiting the amount of those classes. Maybe the trick would be to only allow a certain number of times a person on the team could play that class per map, that way even people with slower connections should get a shot at playing those classes at some point during the round.

I sincerely think the Republic is better due to the Jet-Troopers of course and the Clone Pilots. The Clone Sniper also pack a punch against the CIS on specific maps such as Geonosis. The sniper could easily relieve the AT-TEs os the annoying Spider-Walkers. So in general, the Republic stands above the CIS even if the CIS had the Droideka.

P.S- What about the Rebels and the Empire? I vote Empire.:atat::vsd:
