Hannibal
Did you guys here about the deal EA signed with the NFL? It basically put an end to all other NFL football video games. The only way there will be other football video games is if they use made up players and teams (and we all know how much fun that is). That's far worse than anything Microsoft has done. They totally got rid of all competition. You know how EA likes to put out the same game every year with very few upgrades? You think it was bad then wait till they don't have competition for people to run to. This sucks. I don't have that many EA games anyway but I'm boycotting anything they put out. Yours truely, Me. ChAiNz.2da
Yeah, it has all of the other software/game developers up in a hissy (with good reason). Isn't the "deal" for something completely outrageous, I think it's for 15 years or so?! eegadz! ::EDIT :: yup. Found the article I was looking for. http://www.comcast.net/providers/fidgetProvider/news/story_580404_news.jsp
Hannibal
It gets even worse. If you look here they bought the rights to the ESPN brand name too. Basically demolishing Sega and the ESPN sports games for 15 years. Even the NBA games.
T7nowhere
I don't really play Sports games that often(I don't own a consol) But that is total BS. EA eliminates the competition and says it is the best thing for the consumers How is that supposed to work. Competion is whats best for consumers not some Ravenous Corporate monopoly. Whats EA gonna do next?

starmark2k
The only EA games i ever play are the 007 games and they are good but never great. I've never liked easport games because they are always C!@£. I'm in the uk and the football (soccor for you americans) games are never the best and other companies are far better
Hannibal
I wish I was from a country that liked soccer then I wouldn't care about this. Soccer games are fun though maybe I'll switch to that. Can anybody suggest a good one. I like sports games that also allow you to manage the team financially. In fact I like management sims better than the arcade games.

Sabretooth
EA has just made a bad, bad impression on the gaming world. I hope nobody buys their NFL series now! Boycott, people!
stingerhs
a question to all the lawyer's out there: isn't there some kind of legal way that gamers can stop this from happening??? i mean, there's gotta be some kind of anti-monopoly law for this kind of thing, right??? i've been a big fan of the madden series for a long time, but when sega had introduced ESPN 2k5 for just $20, i probably would've converted over if i had a console. to me, it was much more of an improvement and a more rounded game overall than both the previous ESPN game AND madden 2k5. why?? because besides about 5-7 changes and additions to the game, madden 2k5 was almost a carbon copy of madden 2k4. apparently, EA's solution to sega putting out a better NFL game is to prevent them from publishing one in the first place. so, instead of complying with the demands of corporate competition and make a better game, they just want to flex their greater financial might. sounds like a monopoly to me. the big question is now what are we going to do now that both the NFL and ESPN licenses belong to EA??? as i've stated further, i'm thinkin legal action, if its possible. Prime
I don't believe this is entirely EA's doing. IIRC, the NFL only wanted one company to own the rights to NFL games, and it was EA that came out on top.

How do you explain them buying the ESPN name so that Sega can't make their 2K game that's in direct competition with NBA Live. I think the 2005 versions of the Sega sports games sold to many games cause they dropped the price to 19.99 and EA decided before Sega could grow their market share any more they would ruin them. This is exactly what Microsoft does. Use their influence and deep pockets to muscle out the smaller guy.
Prime
Originally posted by Hannibal How do you explain them buying the ESPN name so that Sega can't make their 2K game that's in direct competition with NBA Live. Likely a seperate deal. I don't know for sure, but I would suggest that perhaps ESPN didn't want to lose their association with NFL games, and so signed a deal with EA since they now have exclusive rights. And as part of that deal the NBA contract was included. Just a guess. All I'm saying is that from certain things I have read EA isn't solely responsible for what has transpired. They did, however, come out on top.

But it's a little suspicious that they also managed to wipe out a competitive basketball game while they were at it. That's a little too convenient. edit: Looks like Take Two jumped on baseball before EA could. Look here. This is bad. What the hecks going on? I love the quote from the EA rep, "his proves that there's plenty of competition in sports games,". The competition isn't in the games it's in the wallet and business practices of the companies. jedi3112
I quite agree about EA screwing up C&C after TS came out, generals was way too easy, had superweapons that couldn't be disabled (also some generals upgrades were superweapons). It also had superunits (like the airplanes that couldn't be shot down before they threw their bombs) and it is not really accurate, claiming the us rangers to be the best trained and skilled special forces in the world (SAS and Commandos are much better). I am also glad I didn't buy this one. Other things EA did that annoyed me are that in LOTR:BFME you can't skip the intro movies that contain company logo's (like for example when you start up a game and the LucasArts logo appears you usually can skip them with 'Escape' or 'Spacebar') so therefore I didn't buy this one either. Also strange is that in LOTR:BFME and R:TW (the Total War series also has something to do with EA, though they arent mentioned there, or skippable) when a cavalry regiment runs into a regiment of heavy armored infantry with a full charge the infantrymen are usually launched all over the entire regiment (consisting of usually 160 soldiers on huge unit scale in R:TW). Especially noticable when the infantrymen are armed with pikes of up to 6 meters long. So when wearing a full armor of about 50-55kg you fly at least 6 meters high and far when hit by cavalry (I don't really think so, do you). Though LOTR:BFME has this quite limiited, infantry does fly when hit by a cavalry charge, and here they also survive and can gat up wearing the same weight of armor. Not really realistic don't you think?

Ranger5402
I have to say Madden is beater it just more realistic In ESPN my friend (with my help) was ranked number 1 on xbox live. When we faced the number one guy to become number one all he did the whole game was **** up the zoom on the ball so all u could see is the ball. And it was to easy with the Bucs all u needed was Alslot and just hit Duck Soulder and u would run every one over. ^^^ that was a while ago the year after the bucs won the superbowl so the might have fixed that. My friend won that game and then had a rematch and lost and he pretty much stopped playing it cuz he got some other great game some dumb star wars game something like Old kights yea i thought i sucked, u may have heard of that game. lol when i saw him first play the game i thought it sucked cuz i was still playing N64 Zelda and i love that game. So i thought RPG were no fun lol i was so wrong
Hannibal
^^ Can't follow...ideas all over the place...having trouble focusing...someone help...
