Soul Calibur

Soul Calibur 2 = Best fighting game ever. Hands down, awesome graphics, amazing characters, highly detailed levels, creative weapons, superb voice acting, not to mention great replayability all make SC2 a great fighting game. With the addition of Link, I had to buy it, and so did over 1 million other gamers, making SC2 on GCN sell better than any other version.

Soul Calibur 3 is expected to be released in October, 2005. Thats cool, I really can't wait. I heard it will be in arcades first though, but who knows. I hope it will follow on consoles shortly after. Got any cool ideas about this? Maybe it will be revealed during E3! There aren't any details current known about this.

Next up is the SC movie. Kind of old news, but I want to know what you guys think, good or bad? Mortal Kombat wasn't too good... and most video game movies suck. Opinions are mixed on this topic... :-|

SC the movie could have a good storyline behind it (even though the game doesn't really have one) Think about it, it could show things like Maxi fighting Asteroth and his whole crew dying. Next up could be Kilik and Nightmare, or something sweet like that. Cassandra trying to save here sister's life, or even Raphael's stuggle with french nobility, and the orphan who saves him. The game does have good character development and backgrounds, which could make for a good movie. I just hope they don't focus on just one character, or get choppy and switch back and forth.

I think this could be really cool, but I can also see how it would be really bad. I really wish they would get to filming this thing. Sammo Hung is the director, I think he directed American Pie, right?

I've played Soul Calibur2, and i have to say it was friggen awesome, but i'd say Mortal Kombat Deception was better. anywho, the mortal komabt mvoies were ify so i think the SC will also be kinda not good. but other than that, those two are the best fighting games i'd say.

SC2 ruled (never had a dreamcast to experience SC1), though i would maybe have liked the option of some usable environments to add some variation occasionally. .

Never played DOA3, but it did look pretty good, except for the over-the-top T&A.

As someone who doesn't often have anyone to play against on-hand I'd say that the two things that I'd like most improved would be

(a) the single player game

(b) add some internet multiplayer.

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the more realistic styles of Virtua Fighter as well... maybe an option to toggle between armed and unarmed stances? Or to take oponents weapons?

I still have a soft spot for the first Mortal Kombat movie, but on the whole I don't see the point of making movies from fightinggames... they don't have plots, you can't involve all the characters and it all ends up in a mess (like streetfighter).

Sophitia!!

If i'd ever made a movie off of a fighting game, myself, i'd pack it full of lots and lots and lots of awesome fights. Cause that's what you'd wanna see, right? I'd probably make it fully 3D too, just like I would all games to movies, and use motion capture.

I prefer old school fighters myself. Don't get me wrong the one on ones can be fun, and I own some. The so-called "3-D fighters" are an acquired taste (the ones that are really 2-D but give you polygonal graphics instead of sprites).

That said, I was very impressed with Soul Calibur 1 & 2. The graphics in those games are excellent, and still impress me. They look better than a lot of more modern pc games even.

Of course, the thing is they only have to render a background (one room box) and two characters, so they can put all kinds of detail in it and still have it be fast and smooth.

No, he didn't. Sammo Hung is a buddy of Jackie Chan's, he does a lot of Kung-Fu comedy (and some serious) movies in Asia. And I think he'll do a damn fine job making a Soul Caliber movie.

Whaa?? The mapping detail in SC2 put modern games to shame. Really, while some levels lack, others are amazingly brilliant. Im thinking about mapping some of them. They have tons of detail, but you just don't really noticed because your focused on the characters and health bars.

I have SC2, whilst impressive visually and gameplay-wise, it's an evil bastard of a game.

And Street Fighter 2 Turbo is the best fighting game evar! :xp:

*Hides*

Actually (if you even care) IGN picked Street Fighter 2 as the number 10 game of all time back when they made that list.

They may have detail, but they're not massive maps full of a great number of badguys. You render One set, and two players, and since a lot of the map is static it doesn't have to be continually re-rendered.

Why would you want a huge map with enemies for a 1v1 combat game?

That's the point, 1v1 games don't have or need all of that, therefore they render faster, and are able to have more detail on what little is drawing on the screen.

I know my taste is different to yours, but I don't see why anyone likes the DoA series. The same characters almost every time, [perhaps 1-2 new ones, in the New DoA game for Xbox they actually took characters out] and the same moves, apart from they add a few moves to those massive combos you can do, which take a while to learn how to do anyways.

Soul Calibur is just a fighting game on its own level of greatness.

No, Link + Marth = Win :xp:

I loved SC when I rented it a while back, I was thinkin of renting it again, but then I saw Republic Commando and got that instead.

I'm still trying to find a copy of SC1 for my Dreamcast, and only because I have the fishing controller, and I found out that if you use that on SC1 you can swing that around as your weapon :D

And I own DOA2 for DC also, I love that game. Hot babes plus fun gameplay is a damn good game in my book.

I just got Soul Calibur 2 yesterday for Xbox, and its been awesome.

Way better than DOA3, that game was all about hitting the buttons faster. But SC3 make you think more about what attack you should do, and the graphics are awesome! :D

the only thing i would have liked in SC2 was a decent tutorial mode.

You could figure out a lot of it yourself, but the practice mode was very limited and you had to keep going into the menus to find out moves.

A nice practice mode that taught you the moves one by one, showed your button presses on screen, let you practice them till you wanted to move on to the next, and most importantly gave you examples of when to use certain moves and when not to.

You figure it out eventually, but i'm sure i still missed a lot of the uses of a number of the moves...

[edit]I think SC2 and DOA3 have about reached the pinacle of what they can do with just two people hitting each other.

maybe a game that included local damage effects (eg, take out a knee to slow down your opponent) plus the ability to learn opponents moves would add some more depth.
