c'mon...you mustve seen the new Forbes rich list....that cracker Bill Gates has damn $46 billion..... he's not gettin anythin else from me..... as for Nintendo, they'll shoot themselves in the foot (again) with their customary sidewards advances in gaming :p

sony are clever marketers, and are in the pockets of all my fave game devs.... i gotta love em for that :p

btw, Rhettski, you got a PSP yet....I freakin want one ! the main games I love on the ps2 have been ported over already...FIFA soccer, Tiger Woods Golf, Dynasty warriors..... all we need is a Final Fantasy Title and I'll be able to move to a tropical island and never leave again.... :D

I'll eventually get te PS3, XBOX2, and Revolution, but it'll depend on price and game line up for which one I'll get first.

The PS3 is really getting my attention because of the Cell processor, but there's no reason to talk about this in this thread because this is about Revolution and XBOX2.

+1 post count! :p

I was going to but then terrible flaws started popping up. I figured the Sony president would release a statement saying they were going to fix them for the worldwide release but then he basically said that nothing was going to be changed and that we should just deal with it. Seriously, he did. :( He has since then been replaced as president but he stl heads up the gaming department. (Doh!)

The two major issues for me so far are the buttons breaking and, apparently, they're easy to twist and if you twist them while a game is in it and running the disk gets launched out the back of the handheld.

I was really really excited about the PSP but when theyget stuff like that happening frequently and say they're not changing anything..... I think I'm just going to skip out on this generation of handhelds. :(

The cell processor is indeed amazing. The one that will be used in the PS3 will be a "stripped down" version of this processor though so I dunno what its stats will end up being. I'm fairly sure it'll be the most powerful but I doubt it'll be very close to the non stripped cell processors we've been seeing.

Indeed. I even heard they may use more than one Cell inside a PS3. May be just a rumor though.

I'm looking forward to the new consoles, myself. I might even buy my first console after these babies come out. ^_^

the fact that you used the words 'dodgy Russian porn site' makes you dodgy by default.... :p Ive never heard of such a thing.... Now, Sithy's hard drive is a dodgy porn site if ther ever was one :(

* * *

hmm...ive heard about those problems with the psp... but ive also heard rave reviews from owners, a couple of which are personal friends of mine (in Japan)

what I wanna know Rhett, is how the hell do you twist flat controller buttons, do you play with your teeth ??

Wow. I can't beleive how stupid Nintendo are for making sturdy hardware, especially in the case of handhelds. It only makes them look like Fisherprice toys

Don't you think Astro ? :p;)

I hate these topics. NO ONE FREAKIN CRAES WHICH SYSTEM YOU WANT!

I care. Alot. I troll this and other forums for the sole purpose of finding out who wants which system. I write all the information on my toes and the back of my neck with charcoal. I'm serious.

Well, based on almost ZERO information I'll make some dodgy predictions:

NIntendo will do something really cool, but weird, will market it badly, no-one will buy it and almost no games will get made for it. Those of us who saw the potential will weep....

PS3 and XBOX2 will be almost identical... so i have no idea how to predict what will be the best one. It will probably all come down to style or marketing more than any standout features.

Graphics aren't going to be much of a leap forward over the current top games (moving poly counts from 10,000 to 100,000 made a big difference, moving them to 1,000,000 won't be as noticable. Things already look pretty real, and its going to get harder and harder to make them "realler" as the human brain can tell the difference. )

Physics and lighting will get better though.

PSP to PS3 linkup is going to be an interesting possibility... but then so was GC/GBA connectivity and it never really amounted to that much.

PS3 and XBOX2 are going to be more like home media centres than game consoles, but both microsoft and sony will implement prohibitive DRM. THe one that gets hacked best will probably be the one I buy.

If nintendo dumps the analogue stick entirely and just goes with a touch screen then no one will port their games across.

With the talk of using a evolution at wi-fi hotspots it would be REALLY COOL if they went with a laptop type formfactor (without the folding screen, or with it as an addon) so you could carry it around easily.

PS/ Anyone else noticed the similarity between the mac-mini and the gamecube? :D

Still think the GC had the coolest design out of all the consoles, if only they had made it black or silver to start they would have sold far more. (or white)

I'd say your "dodgy" predictions are right on the money toms, particularly concerning the new Nintendo console. I was a big fan of the "Big N" in the past, but not so much anymore after their numerous screw-ups in marketing and their fetish for wierd gameplay gimmicks. Oh sure, I still eagerly await the next Mario/Zelda/Metroid game that comes along, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Nintendo may go the way of Sega in the future.

It should be interesting to see how the Xbox 2 and the Playstation 3 will fare, particularly if the Microsoft console doesn't have a Halo game at launch. The first Xbox owes its popularity to Halo, after all.

I've seen a few screenshots of games developers are already working on for the new consoles, but to tell you the truth I wasn't that impressed. Like toms, I think graphics have gotten to the point where we really can't do that much more to make them "better." Oh sure, you can up the polygon count, but it's getting very hard to notice the difference. Of course, the next step is virtual reality, but that probably won't happen for at least a good five years or so.

and their fetish for wierd gameplay gimmicks.

I'd like to know just how many weird gimmicks Nintendo has incorporated over the years? Lets see.....first to use an analog stick....now all consoles do the same.

First to use a touch-pad....will we see that in many consoles futures?

What else? I can't think of anything...

And what exactly is WRONG with that? Aside from being innovative instead of just pushing the same crap through and never trying to change the experience and possibly *gasp* improve on things.

And games deffinately have room for improvement in the graphics department. Maybe not in terms of look but in terms of scale. Next-gens will have better capabilities for sprawling environments that don't have to compromise poly counts, and can render much quicker reducing load times.
