lukeskywalker1
Yeah, I have a link... I was sort of half way wondering if its even legal to change the start menu. Question to those who have installed custom start menus, that Style XP program is a trial version, when it runs out will my start menu go away as well? It didn't come with the program... When I tried to uninstall the program it auto set my start menu to that blue XP one... so I reinstalled and set it all back to the way I like it. Heres the link: http://www.themexp.org/preview.php?mid=106040&type=vs&view=&page=&cat=&name=Longhorn+Aero+5059+v1.zip Thats what I downloaded, and it looks simular to the pic toms posted. It even adds the green info bars, or whatever they are called. You might want to browse the site to find another one you like, however. At the top of the page click "How do I install" to see how to install each item. Its not that complicated. Although Boot Screens can be fatal to your computer, so I have heard :-( Im not going to mess with that, I only changed the Icons and the Start Menu. Start menus seem to be installed no problem. TiE23
A prog called Windows Blinds also more or less does the same thing as Style XP. TiE

edlib
From what I understand (which just might be incorrect) Vista isn't an update to XP (like the transition from 95 to 98 or 98 to ME) but all new code pretty much written totally from scratch (like the difference between 3.1 and NT) That's why it's taken so long. It's supposed to be (if you choose to belive Microsoft press releases) far more secure than any previous versions, more like Unix in that respect. I guess time will tell... TiE23
Oh, so hackers and guys will have to start all over again. Instead of using known code from previous generations, they will have to start reverse engineering it instead and also face tougher security. I just want it stable, secure, and good for gaming. Cause my dad always gets the new OS whenever it comes out. TiE

edlib
No doubt. Already the tech press is claiming that Vista is turning out to be far less ambitious that originally presented; and that most of the really interesting and groundbreaking features promised and touted at the time of the intial press releases have been scaled way back if not dropped altogether. Ow, that sounds bad. Well, good thing I didn't know any of it at the start, so I won't be disappointed. One of the most powerful companies in the world, and they still manage to screw up on a regular basis. TiE
RevanA4
I heard that vista wasn't going to be reverse compatible with any software for the previous versions of windows so I still think I'll pass

lukeskywalker1
Whats up with that ET? Hes right: If Vista isn't compatible with any of my software I won't buy it. I won't have a need for it. Most likley someone will make patches and/or Windows XP emulators. Im surprised no one has done so already (you know, like make a windows 3.11 emulator or something) However, it wouldn't be smart for microsoft to not make it compatible with XP software, in fact it would be just plain stupid. Alegis
I don't notice anything special about IE 7 except tabs. If there's any page I should check with it let me know. Can't really notice much new stuff about Vista. It's basically windows XP with just new themes and all that stuff; windows "zooming" out, folders with a transparant box at the top etc. In some cases I find the design less desirable as with folderview http://img365.imageshack.us/img365/2720/view5bc.jpg You can instantly add coments etc to files from folderview but I don't like the big ass folder pics. For that they made these bars on the top for easier navigation though it'll take some time to get used to.
Astrotoy7
I tried tab-browsing with ie6 with the msn toolbar, it just isnt as good as FF for some reason... Rather than its looks, Id say the main advantages in Vista are to be found when utilising higher system specs. Id like to see some benchmarking figures before Im convinced on this puppy mtfbwya
Alegis
Tabbing is actually nice with IE 7. Has this little box next to each tab which opens into a new tab whenever you click it.

ET Warrior
Also, if you want a new tab in FF you can hit Ctrl-T and BAM. *shrug*
El Sitherino
Also. IE7 is just as exploitable as IE6, they didn't take any real security measures.

Astrotoy7
*In the distance, goose-steps can be heard* Thank you Alegis, I just wanted to *see what it looked like* It seems I have inadvertantly started a FF Pride March c'mon all singalong : "Firefox, Firefox Uber Alles....." Alegis
Also, if you want a new tab in FF you can hit Ctrl-T and BAM. *shrug* But this is faster! Well the whole interface of everything had a nice rework though I doubt that many new functionality is still waiting for me to be discovered. According to microsoft Dynamic security protection through a simplified architecture that defends against malware, and new dynamic ways to protect against personal data theft from fraudulent Web sites (a practice known as “phishing”). Improved design to make everyday tasks easier and faster, with better navigation through tabbed browsing; inline search right from the toolbar; shrink-to-fit Web page printing; and a streamlined, redesigned user interface (currently in its early stages in Beta 1). New tools to take you directly to the information you want through support for Web feeds (RSS) that includes automatic discovery of web feeds (RSS) on Web pages, basic Web Feed (RSS) reading capabilities, and basic support for saving Web feeds (RSS) as a new kind of favorite. Platform enhancements for developers to improve compatibility and manageability, including improved support for Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) as well as transparent PNG support. Thank you Alegis, I just wanted to *see what it looked like* It seems I have inadvertantly started a FF Pride March Yes funny how any topic that even briefly contains the words Internet Explorer turns into a firefox praise. I Prefer firefox as well but thats irrelevant :\ Back to Vista, no crashes yet!
ET Warrior
But this is faster!. I doubt that...though if you want you can double-click in the tab bar on FF to open a new tab...but keyboard shortcuts are always faster in my opinion.

Alegis
Yes well I'm not an IE fanboy, only trying it out. Posting this with ff 1.04 About the crashes, it responds way better to programs not responding All I'm saying is I hope MS takes steps to actually secure IE rather than pretty it up. Aye.
