ok since most people are being effected by this massive natural disaster(my self included) I wanna talk about it and some of the relief efforts that are going on

Ok here in Wisconsin we have been raising funds and sending down Important supplies for about a week now.

but the biggest shipment is being gathered here on Wednesday thanks to a local radio station called Z104(its my favorite) the are planning a whole day to gather stuff at 2 different locations in madison(our capital) and are hoping to fill two giant moving trucks of supplies but I think they might need a third cuz that is just the influence that, that radio station has in madison and its listening area.

I my self am gonna help fill by donating some of those items ^_^

edit: so what is anybody else's state or providence doing to help

edit: I'm more emotionally effected by this cuz I can't really do anything to help. and believe me if I could I would but *sighs* I really can't and I feel really bad about that

well, aside from my donations to the Red Cross, i did have quite the urge to go down there and lend a hand. the only problem would be that i would miss a ton of school, and although i'm sure the Deans wouldn't mind too much, you just never know with some people. :(

and if anybody that reads this has family that lived in the areas affected, you definately have my prayers and hopes.

A group of us at work already tried to get that arranged and were turned down. Because of the Military involvement and the armed "thugs" lingering... they're denying civilian voluntary help aside from established organizations (at least for the 'rescue' portion).

I think they will still accept help such as evacuation services such as foodlines and supplies handouts etc. but they wouldn't allow our boats or any other such organizations for "search and aid" because of the hazards imposed.

Quite understandable IMO, but thought those interested in helping should know :) Right now, donations are really more appreciated than anything.. so if you can spare it, please give...

A good link for those wanting to donate or volunteer, as well as some other helpful services:

Word of caution, be careful about donating to Red Cross. They still haven't even come under fire for missing funds to the tsunami victims and the 9/11 victims. Your money would be better spent buying supplies to donate to aiding organizations. Good Will and such.

Also there will definitely be blood drives coming up to donate blood to. You can also volunteer time to local hospitals when they recieve injured and sick from LA hospitals.

^^^^^

Well, the issue has been raised, but not to the extent it should have been. The Red Cross is like any Bureaucracy in that money gets lost. I don't know if the funds were misspent or lost due to corruption. Either way, I'm don't really trust them to use the money effectively.

Sad, really.

it's all about the communication....the local authorities didn't know wtf to do, apparantly, so now they got the army national guard and regular army helping out. :) hooah!

and anybody can help. you have clothes you don't wear anymore? donate them to the salvation army or something. :)

I have to say I agree with InsaneSith on this. I wouldn't trust the Red Cross enough to donate any money to them. In addition to the 9/11 stuff, I've heard numerous stories of the ridiculous salaries they pay their top people( in the neighborhood of $300,000+) as well as spending a fortune redecorating office rooms...etc. I have a real problem with anyone lining their own pockets on the back of a charity.

  • 2 weeks later...

Posted this in Yoda's Swamp, but since some of you don't visit other parts of the Forums (which you should, it's quite fun ;) ) I'll post it here too....

Bush takes responsibility for U.S. failures after Katrina

wow... * goes outside to watch the pigs fly and check the temperature of Hell*

I wonder what 'spin' they'll place on it come Thursday night. I'll definitely have to tune in (or at least record it)...
