This forum might ofend some people and it will be talking about the terrible events that happeded on September 11th, 2001. If you are going to critasize other people's oppians then just hit back and don't come back because this is going to be a forum that is going to ask very cotraverial questions. Please answer all the questions unless I have marked other wise (#3 is opptinal). Make no mistake becaue this is serious and I want to know what the answers are for other people in the US or if you are in other counties you are welcome to answer but don't diss the victums of the terroists. And I'm not accusing any of the Islamic sects but I'm accusing the terroists of what they did!

Questions:

1. What were you doing at the time of the terroist attacks in New York? And how did you find out that it did happen?

2. Why did you think the terroists did this?

3. What do you think they could have done better? (opptinal)

4. What they did wrong?

5. Do you think that the buildings design had anything to do with the enormous amount of life lost in the 9/11 attacks?

6. How would you have designed the buildings different and how that would have made the buildings safer?

7. The Freedom Tower, a good idea or another death trap?

These are the answers to the above questions by the fourm auther.

1. I was just getting up for school when I herd it on the radio that the World Trade tower had been hit.

2. I think they did it because, I have no clue why they killed that many people.

3. I think that they could have crashed the 737s closer to the base of the buildings.

4. They attacked the US that is what they did wrong.

5. Yes i do think that the buildings were designed stupidly but I am not accusing the builders of doing this on perpus.

6. They should have spread the stairs out more from the core of the building.

7. The Freedom Tower is going to be not only taller then the original but it is going to be all around bigger no to mention a larger target for the radical peoples of the world.

1. getting ready for school. I didn't know it happened until i got to school and one of my friends told me.

2. to get a message to the americans. What do i think the message was? get out of the middle east.

3.

4. They used violence to get the message across. Thats wrong.

5.Actually the building where built to resist getting hit by an airplane. The thing is though that Al-Quaeda used bigger and faster planes than what the building was meant to resist.

6. i would've made it so the buildings could withstand more than the fastest plane at the time, so it could keep up with better planes.

7. Never heard of the Freedom Tower.

1. I think I was in a chatroom at the time. lol

2. They did it because they are religious nut-cases that think everyone that isnt in line with their radical beliefs are infidels and need to killed. Note that I dont think all religious people are nut-cases, just these retards.

3. What the hell kind of question is that?? Are you trying to give the terrorists pointers on how better to kill innocent people? *rolls her eyes*

4.Killing innocents, attacking the US for no apparent reason, being sheep...

5.They needed better stairways, or maybe skywalks so that people could get to the other buildings, or external lifts... how about parachutes?

6. Same as above.

7. Depends on how they make it.

They couldnt have crashed the planes closer to the base of the buildings, because of the density of the buildings surrounding it.

Questions:

1. What were you doing at the time of the terroist attacks in New York? And how did you find out that it did happen?

I was in advanced science taking a test.

2. Why did you think the terroists did this?

I have no answer

3. What do you think they could have done better? (opptinal)

not attacked at all

4. What they did wrong?

they attacked

5. Do you think that the buildings design had anything to do with the enormous amount of life lost in the 9/11 attacks?

no they didn't it actually had more to do with the spot that they hit the towers more than how they were built

6. How would you have designed the buildings different and how that would have made the buildings safer?

read my above answer

7. The Freedom Tower, a good idea or another death trap?

good Idea

1. I was at school. I went to a friends house during lunch break where I learned that the two towers had collapsed.

2. American Imperialism.

3. Dumb question.

4. Targeted civilians instead of soldiers. Fighting in a dishonorable way (IMO).

5. The buildings weren't designed to receive two missiles/planes straight into them. No one can blame the architects or engineer as this catastrophe never came up in their minds.

6. Not much safer. Unless you can make it resistant to missile fire. The only thing would be better escape routes in case of fires.

7. Meh, I'd rather have some sort of monument to their memory. Like a Park or something. Make it peaceful and relaxing. Then again, a huge building for bussinessmen...very peaceful and relaxing...

1. i was switching classes back in my old High School, and my teacher had the TV tuned into the news as it was happening. and yes, i managed to watch the second plane hit the other tower.

2. short answer: they don't like the United States largely due to our foreign policy.

3. i obstain.

4. i obstain.

5. actually, i think the buildings design was a large factor in the enormous amount of lives that were actually saved. the ability of the towers to shift structural support to other parts of the building was a major factor in preventing the towers from outright collapsing as the planes collided. the fact that both towers remained standing for quite some time after the collisions is a testament to the tower's sound design. if it were not for the fuel that caught fire in the collisions, the towers would not have collapsed.

6. the only real way for them not to be a target for that kind of attack is if they had not been built at all. and besides, no building designer is particularly concerned with designing a building to withstand an aircraft collision. the best way to prevent them from happening is a combination of good intelligence to pick up the terrorists before they even board the plane, or in the case of bad piloting, good traffic control from the ground or a collision detection system on an aircraft.

7. well, i'm not sure. on one hand, a monument is a touching tribute, but it doesn't serve much practical use. remember, when they built the WTC, NYC was looking for a building that would house companies that would be used for international trade. that dimension is now somewhat lacking since 9/11/2001, although it has rebounded since then. so i guess it comes down to what is more important: recovering and overtaking previous losses from the attacks, or make a memorial to the lives lost in the attacks.

1. What were you doing at the time of the terroist attacks in New York? And how did you find out that it did happen?

Was watching the Today show or some other news thing, and saw the plane flying in the background then, bam.

2. Why do you think the terroists did this?

American Imperialism.

3. What do you think they could have done better? (opptinal)

Multiple strike. Planes in the center of the towers and bombs at the foundation.

Hit the inner wall of the Pentagon rather than the outside wall.

4. What they did wrong?

Attacked a civilian target rather than strictly military/political.

5. Do you think that the buildings design had anything to do with the enormous amount of life lost in the 9/11 attacks?

No doubt. But it's not the fault of the designers. They didn't exactly invision a strike from a 737.

6. How would you have designed the buildings different and how that would have made the buildings safer?

Less steel, more concrete. Or atleast more concrete support rather than relying solely on the steel beams.

7. The Freedom Tower, a good idea or another death trap?

Highly retarded.

1. I'm not morning people;), I was eating breakfast, about an hour away from actually doing homework, my mom (morning people) was watching morning shows, and they did the whole breaking news thing, I think it was CBS, but I surfed a few trying to get the clearest coverage, and watched it all day, I'm pretty sure shortly after that was when they announced the Pentagon was hit and a plane went down in pennsylvania (maybe that wasn't the place?)but I don't remember that well.

2. There are many possible reasons, and I think it's more complicated,

One, I do believe that their religious leaders interpretation of their Islamic scriptures, preached to them and their militant leaders over an extended period of time (in some ways similar to the Nazi's anti-Jew propaganda)

that people of other beliefs than their own are "infidels" who must be destroyed because they are a threat to their faith and basically evil.

Two, I also believe that it's more than foreign policy, but still related.

With the increasing influence of democracy, the religious leaders who basically explain to the people what they should believe, and basically are the most influential and powerful people in their sects can't willingly relinquish control of the peoples minds to systems of governing where the public has control of the government and individuals have a right to their own beliefs,

and therefore use terrorists (I have no clue as to why people wax their image instead of calling them murderers, and I don't simply mean the Islamic guys)

to send the message to America, among others, that it's their turf and you stay out or die, if you think about it it's an extreme form of politics, where battles, wether physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual are fought for control of the public, similar to the political battle here where conservatives (in general) want people to adhere to the guidlines of "morality" and liberals (in general) want people to disregard the constrictions of "morality"

(not trying to go off topic here, simply an analogy to better explain my statement) Politics are a part of it.

Three, Economics played a role in it as well. All nations on earth are in economic competition, the target the chose was not one simply of national symbol, but also a key economic target.

Wether a simple tactic of dirupting an economic competitior, or jealosy of the financial blessing and standard of living, Economics likely played a large part in their decision.

It is my belief that our combination of these and others outweighed the similar properties of other targets, making it their main statement (not to take away from other attacks in other countries by the same or similar groups) I guess we were just their biggest all round threat at the time.

Four, At the risk of sounding like a "religious nut-cases" it is also my belief that the underlying cause of it and others is simply the Alah vs Christ battle, because the United States is where Christians enjoy the most freedom,

I'm sure that Ashley already has me in the Retarded Religious Nutcases column already though LOL!

3. Why is everbody afraid of this one hmm, They attacked the WTC for the reasons above, but in terms of shock caused by lives lost they could have done much more, take for example yesterdays OSU vs Texas football game (still mad enough to flame annoying "ha ha you lost" taunters)

where there were well over one hundred thousand people, if they had committed just several more murderers to their plan the death toll could have been multiplied by 50 to 100 times as many casualties, the in-stadium attendence would probably be completely wiped out, as well as many in the surrounding area if they'd found a way to get several explosives off the plane in the middle Columbus before crashing, or starting an actual explosion of the plain over the city and having debris and remaining undetonated explosives and fuel rain into a large crowd.

And no, this isn't helping them out, it is extremely likely that this was a considered tactic, but while the attack of a foootball game with a high death toll and disrution to the national morale directly asociated with sporting events, was disregarded for a target like the WTC which would have a more devastating economic impact, which because they associate the U.S. with capitalism, felt would prove most damaging, the reason, I would guess, for not attacking other targets as well, is to reduce operatives involved and simplify planning, extra hijackers would be more things that could go wrong.

4. Not attacking a military target was mentioned, but think about it, if they had attacked a base or other military target, an undetectable or hard to get around defense system might have been in place which would have halted the attack, attacking civilains makes a bigger statement.

As to what I think they did wrong, besides the whole cliche attacked us answer, was not following through with continuous attacks, that would have made a larger demonstration of their strength, without compromising their actual strength because of the continual confusion of repeating unsuspected attacks.

5. and 6. I don't remember much of the buildings design, but I think the main cause of the collapse was burning jet fuel weakening the metal supports, because the impact and inital explosions didn't affect the structure as much as it looked like, it was well built, but like previously said, the planes in question weren't planned for, like dropping an atom bomb on a city whose defenses are against tanks and infantry,

An idea I had, while causing other problems would help to prevent collapse,

If youve ever played with legos, and tried to build a thin tower as high as you can, you will quickly find out that the taller a structure is the smaller it's stability (probably some engineering exceptions though) so I had this idea (applicable to future construction in already non or low population areas)

to build cities with nearly identical buildings with the tallest in the center, and the ones each ring out an incrementally shorter height, continuing outward, if a modular system of construction is used it could theoretically increase building height and stabilization at the same time, by adding modules to surrounding layers to support more in the inner area, of course height will still be limited by strength of construction materials, but will still be more than single, unattached, unique buildings would provide, several downsides however would be congestion, waste and utility management, and of course not being as pretty as other cities,

uhh, PM thoughts on this, it's a political-religion thread remember?

7. I honestly haven't followed up on all the recent information about it, but I believe that from a morale standpoint, it is important to rebuild, and better, the reason being to send the message back that you can't bring us down, we'll just grow back bigger and stronger, and I think that when they open it they should use it as a memorial to the people who died, but not dwell on it to much and instead focus on using it to send the message to everyone.

We can and will return the favor to all involved eventually, it just takes longer because they make an elusive cowardly target.

1. What were you doing at the time of the terroist attacks in New York? And how did you find out that it did happen?
I was getting ready for work, and I turned on the TV and that was after the first tower was hit. All they knew was that a plane had hit the building. I assumed it was an accident. Then I went to work and learned that the second tower was hit. We knew then it obviously wasn't an accident. We spent the day watching the TV at work.

2. Why did you think the terroists did this?
They don't like Americans.

3. What do you think they could have done better? (opptinal)
Not sure. They have instilled America with a constant state of fear and have altered the way most Americans live. It has shaped their politics and economics and foriegn policies, and united much of the world against them, or at least strained relations. I'd say that is a pretty effective use of four planes.

4. What they did wrong?
I don't think they did anything really wrong, considering their goals.

5. Do you think that the buildings design had anything to do with the enormous amount of life lost in the 9/11 attacks?
One issue was that most floors were an acre of completely open space. With no walls, there wasn't anything to prevent the fires from spreading very rapidly. Also, the fire-retardant foam that covered the steel superstructure often fell off, leaving the metal exposed to the blaze. Also, the impact of the plane knocked most of the foam off.

That being said, it is hard to imagine a building that can easily handled a plane being flown into it. I don't blame the engineers.

6. How would you have designed the buildings different and how that would have made the buildings safer?
I think handling fires is all that you could really do. If someone is going to fly a plane into it, there are going to be problems.

7. The Freedom Tower, a good idea or another death trap?
Can't live in fear.

I liked it the way it was.

7. The Freedom Tower, a good idea or another death trap?

I don't really know.

How isn't it suitable? Everyone has a right to talk about it if they want to.

And yes it was awful that it happened, but the fact that it happened isn't a reason to completely forget about it, and not talk about it.

you have a good point there

but the main reason that other might find this offending is because it was done by muslims(I don't really consider them ones though)

but yes

i didn't find out about the attack until home room when my home room teach said did you hear about the twin towers I was like O_o what about them

he said "yeah two planes just crashed into them and they collapsed" the whole room got really quiet

so quiet you could hear a pin drop

and for the rest of the day the my high school was on lock down literally

and some of our teachers which had been in the military were wondering if they would get reactivated.

the sad thing is that each generation has their own major tragedy to deal with it is just a shame that ours resulted in such a loss of life

Well we honour the dead on December 7th, and people talk about it. Why shouldnt we talk about it? If your forget your history youre doomed to repeat it. I can sort of share your sentiments about not wanting to think about all the people that died in that attack, but just wiping it out of our memories is even more degrading and disrespectful to the dead. If you had died in that attack, Im sure youd want to have people remember you. And in order to remember something it has to be shared or discussed.

So please, stop spamming the thread. Thankyou.
