Tyrion Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 We won't have anything to worry about unless Australia renames itself to Oceania.
toms Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Sigh. The UK parliament just passed a load of anti-terror laws last night (though a few, like the option for police to hold terror suspects for 3 months without charge, have been delayed). That makes it an offence to incite or glorify terrorism. I dunno what the wording is exactly, but some people are bound fall foul of it for the wrong reasons. - Apparently the loose wording means Tony Blair himself might be able to be prosecuted for his praise of Yasser Arafat. Not a good sign. - The fact UK police used "anti-terror legislation" against an 83 year old man who heckeld tony blair at a labour conference doesn't lend weight to politicians claims that "if you have done nothing wrong you have nothing to fear". Apparently it was also used against another 150 or so protestors at the same party conference. - I also saw an article recently that listed about 200 instances of the FBI missusing the patriot act. Not good signs anywhere really. PS/ Over the past ten years in the UK we have lost "The Right to Silence", "The right to trial by jury" (in a number of cases). We might soon be able to be held for 3 months without knowing what the charge or evidence against us is. I'm feeling so much safer...
Lynk Former Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 anti-freedom laws... the terrorists have won.
Prime Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 anti-freedom laws... the terrorists have won.Wait a minute. I thought invading Iraq and getting rid of Saddam Hussein eliminated all the terrorists. Are you suggesting I have been misled?
RoxStar Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 **** Australia, and they're government XP at Prime
abespam Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 lol its a bit of an argument at the moment .. the PM is tryin to pass all these anti-terror laws as quickly as possible through the senate. however a lot of the state leaders are q'ing the laws and they may contend it in the high court of australia to see whether the laws are unconstitutional (and thus not valid)
Captain Wilson Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 2 + 2 = 5 next. That is a shocking piece of legslation. Shocking.

I met a Bulgarian who moved to Australia and my Bulgarian friend's house. (The Bulgarian-Australian had the best accent in the world.)
