Brokeback Mountain.

Yeah, I figured that it would be brilliantly portrayed. I just can't make myself sit down and watch it.

Personally, I dislike and disagree with homosexuality, but respect other's rights to it. So, with that in mind, I think I'll skip this one and get my fix of great acting, and great story with Saving Private Ryan again.

*refrains form saying what's in his mind*

gay cowboys gay cowboys gay cowboys

Yeah, based on the trailer, they're sheep ranchers. There's your problem right there ;)

Three biggest lies told by a cowboy:

1. I won this belt buckle in a rodeo

2. My truck is paid for.

3. I was just helping the sheep out of the fence.

From most reports, if we weren't dealing with gay cowboys it'd be a generic love story that nobody really cares about. But we make the subject matter center on homosexuals and suddenly we've got an all-time great on our hands?

Perhaps you can sway my opinion sith, what exactly makes it stand out over any of the other generic love story movies released in recent memory?

Well, those reports suck.

For one, it doesn't suck. It's actually a well written story.

It doesn't write itself as "these guys are gay lovers", rather they're just people. It's rather difficult to accurately describe it without giving certain things away.

Now, the film probably is overhyped, but it is a very good movie, at least worth a peek.

As stated at EB, all these movies with all this hype generally are decent at best. Mystic River and Crash are two that pop into mind. Neither were extraordinary movies. In fact, I hated the ending to the former and all the characters in the latter. I doubt this one is any better. It's getting all the hype due to the controversy surrounding gays. Big fricken' whoop.

Not yet, been too many films i want to watch recently.. not enough time. Heard not-bad reports on it from those who have seen it though.

Funny to stand in the queue and hear loads of guys go "well, i'll watch anything except brokeback mountain". Some guys are very insecure i guess...

Did just get back from watching Jarhead though (we get stuff late as usual) and thought it was pretty good. Jake Gylenhall is definately an excellent actor.. and seems to be in about 3 films out at the moment.

(Underworld evolution on the other had is worth avoiding, even Kate Beckinsale getting her kit off didn't save it..)

A bit, but that's no different than any other Oscar-bait movie's riding a "gimmick". Look at North Country, etc.

A lot of it has to do with that it is actually a good movie.

The only reason the gay cowboy stuff comes up is that is all people bring up and wish to talk about when discussing it. Unlike Mystic River and Crash, this has a coherent story that doesn't try to confuse you and surprise you. It is what it is.

This movie makes a lot of people feel uncomfortable, that's the truth.

What sucks is that if you say you don't want to see it or you're not interested or didn't like it, it's easy to be labeled as a homophobe. So people try and avoid it all together.

Capiche?

Anyway, I wanna see The World's Fastest Indian, anyway. No Brokeback Mountain for me.

I have an interest in seeing it - but it would make me feel uncomfortable in the theater going to see it with a bunch of my guy friends...

maybe if there was a girl.

Who knows - maybe I will see it. But doubtful.

On that note, Glory Road is pretty sweet. Not quite as good as Remember the Titans or Miracle, but still damn good.

Underworld Evolution is a fun popcorn consuming time waster.

I demand to see V for Vendetta, and PotC 2, and X3.

toms - Jarhead is a great movie.

TiE's not azn!

Underworld Evolution is such a bad movie simple exposure to it can cause cancer.

and the herpes

Fixed.

Or maybe some guys just don't wanna see other guys getting it on.
Yes, because that's really what the movie is all about, teh ghey pr0n!

The thing that really prevents me from wanting to see it is the fact that they tout the love story, but one of 'dose cowboys has a family, and cheating on your wife is still cheating, even if it's with a dude.

Love stories don't bug me. Not if they're well done that is. That's why ESB rocks and AotC sucks :p But I'm not afraid to admit I don't wanna watch two guys getting it on. I have trouble watching guys and girls going at it in movies or on TV front of my family yet and I'm 18. I blame America's fixation on sex somehow being evil. I may or may not watch it before it comes out. It all depends on how many coworkers get it too. I don't wanna be the only person renting the gay cowboy movie!

Are you trying to imply something about sheep ranchers? I was one for 10 years and I NEVER had to help a sheep through a fence - they had no trouble doing that for themselves. :D

BTW, the truck was paid for and the buckle nonexistent. :D

I had heard the movie was good, but never had much interest (incredible violence is more my thing, YAY!)...perhaps when it is out on DVD I'll check it out. Depends on if I have nothing better to watch.
