El Sitherino
Click. So it seems this craptastic idea has popped back up, and seeming to be more and more of a possibility. The hypocrisy this crap would exemplify is also very aggrivating. Mostly because if these companies fighting for suppression didn't have the freedom of growth, they'd be dead in the water. Not to mention, I sure as **** don't want to pay extra money for services that are already too expensive in relation to their effectiveness. And it's true, should there be a "fast-lane" and "slow-lane", net retailers will likely make up for the cost of marketting and payment of this by charging more for goods. I remember the internet was brought about as means for free (not free beer, free) communication and spread of information. This would completely negate the entire purpose of the damn thing. Anyway, that's the end of my ranty protest on this bull****. Anyone else have an opinion on this?
IG-64
This idea is such a load of crap, I don't even know what else to say about it. This would essentially make life worse for everyone except the high-up corporate businessmen. I guess you have to use the term "service provider" loosely now days. Samnmax221
Son of a bitch, I think I'm gonna go Mr. Creosote on my desk. This has got to be the most assinine thing I've heard today.
Det. Bart Lasiter
Christ, I'm already shelling out cash to these a******s every damn month for internet access, how the f*** much cash do they need?
Kjølen
My family is already paying for a "fast-lane", and it's called Charter Pipeline's 3m download speed.
Jeff
I think the whole thing is rediculous, based on what you said, I remember the internet was brought about as means for free (not free beer, free) communication and spread of information. This would completely negate the entire purpose of the damn thing. This is what I always thought of the internet too, it's how it's supposed to be. Datheus
Of course. This whole internet thing has come back around and bit them in the ass. Now they want to destroy it. They've been to do so for years.
Samnmax221
Charter has allready been jacking around my service, medium tier or whatever they called it was nice when no one else on the the street had cable internet. Not to mention I never want to tak to their tech support again. But unless I want to go back to dail-up (I don't), I'm gonna have to deal with the fact that Charter has a monopoly in my area

But unless I want to go back to dail-up (I don't), I'm gonna have to deal with the fact that Charter has a monopoly in my area Heh, I have to deal with the same thing in my town. There's a Charter monopoly here, and even though we have the "fast" 3mb download line I cannot, for the past year or two, play an online game without considerable lag. Like, 200ms pings or greater. It's getting worse lately; the average amount of ping I get from 16-player Stream servers are around 500ms. I also couldn't play Halo 2 on my brother's xbox- kept getting dropped at least once every two or three games.
RoxStar
I am actually sending my local congressman something about this. Total bull****. The internet is that last real free place on this planet. (Free as in unadulterated (sorta) not free beer). The United States already has too much control over the internet, it should be a truly global medium. Samnmax221
Some other company needs to get the stones to come into this area, maybe then I could get a decent deal. I can very well say I miss the days before everyone had broadband, of course I miss the days when not every blathering moron knew how to se a computer. TiE23
If this passes what will happen to the people in America compared to the rest of the world? People in Canada cruising on the internet like normal while all the people are paying $2 a year to view LucasForums.com at normal speeds. Also, this would render research on the internet (like for school essays and stuff) and Google pretty useless.
Det. I have Comcast ~8 Mbps service, and depending on what I'm downloading I can get up to ~16 Mbps downstream (download speed doubles when downloading large files). Just Google "TCPOptimizer". Det. Bart Lasiter
Charter has a monopoly hereNevertheless, you can still optimize your TCP/IP settings and actually get the advertised speeds, or at least within 100 or so kbps.

toms
Big opening for googlenet then.... ;-) But in all serious, this is very stupid. It always amazes me how BLATANT the republicans can sometimes be about supporting the rights of Companies over Individuals. I know they are for capitalism and all that... but seriously, they could at least try and pretend they care about ordinary people from time to time!
