Jae Onasi
Tell me, how are we to plug stuff in on a desert island anyway? We'll just borrow the designs for creating power that the Professor used on Gilligan's Island. We know how talented he was at making generators out of bamboo and vines. And if we have duct tape, a shoe string, and a pocket knife, we'll be able to MacGyverize something with no trouble.

RevanA4
Hmm... I wouldn't want any of that. 1.) A Sattelite Comm System... 1.) A Zodiac with a decent outboard motor... 2.) Enough Gas... 3.) Enough Water, and Military MRE's... 5.) A GPS system, with extra batteries... 5.) A Good Flashlight, with extra batteries and bulbs... 6.) A First Aid Kit, and some Flares... 7.) A Rambo Knife... Correction a 'Topper Harley' Rambo Knife! I'd take all that and glasses as I'm practically blind without them

Jae Onasi
Find a smooth bowl. Fill it about 2 inches up with distilled (or boiled) clear water and freeze. At least one side of the ice lens has to be rounded (fatter in the middle than the edge), and preferably both. The fatter you can make the center in relation to the edge, the stonger it will be. Use the heat of your hand to melt the rough areas smooth. Wait for a sunny day, and focus the light through your ice-lens on something flammable like bits of tinder. Voila, fire. You know, Google can be an amazing resource.

Jae Onasi
JAE!!!!! Dwooop!!! I should have known you'd know. As soon as I pressed enter, I instantly knew you'd know or know how to find out. D@MN GOOGLE! At my home we call that 'Maximum Utilization of Available Resources.' If you learn nothing else studying history, you at least learn how to do research. If you were truly lost, how would you find your direction? That's a good question, and I've been lucky enough not to have much of that kind of experience, because my dad decided that someone in the family was going to learn to read a map, and it ended up being me. If I have a map and know what direction I'm going, I can usually find my way out. 1. In the wilderness--I can find some of the major constellations to figure out where the North Star is to find North, and during the day I can use the sun to figure out east/west in generalities. If the weather is too bad to determine direction, it's probably not good to travel in, either. 2. If I have my laptop and wifi or a GPS, it's a lot easier. One time I took a route in a city that I thought would take me all the way through town. When it cut off abruptly, I realized that I was all alone at night in a very bad section of town (houses with shot out windows are never good signs). I didn't even feel safe pulling over to look at a map, much less ask for help, so I backtracked and called Jimbo on the cell phone, because he was at home and could pull up Mapquest on the computer and give me directions over the phone. 3. If I'm lost in a smaller town, I stop and ask the people at the nearest gas station where something is. They're local and know the place a whole lot better than I do. Unfortunately, sometimes you get the directions 'turn left when you see 3 haybales at the Johnson farm, and go down a piece til you hit a gravel road by the rusty fire hydrant, and when you pass by the Smith farm that burned down a few years back (which of course is no longer visible now), you're getting close.' 4. Ask cops.
