ppl79
sorry, i know this is a stupid question, but how do you use .rar mod files? do you just dump them in overide? one example is the operationkillbastila mod
Emperor Devon
You have extract the files out of the original folder, and put them into override. They go to modules if they're .mod files.
Mav
.rar is another form of compressed files, think like .zip, to open .rar files you'll need Winrar or you can use a 7zip program, but I don't know too much about 7zip, jsut have heard of it. Fjope
Here's a link to the WinRAR download site: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm If your using Windows, you want the first one on the list titled WinRAR3.60. WinRAR should be able to extract just about every compressed file type out there.
SithRevan
Well in my time using .rar and .7z files I have noticed that .rar files are compressed a little more than a .zip file and a little less than a .7z file, like they said up there you will need a program like winrar or a 7zip program to open them! P.S.:If you can't afford winrar there are probley some freeware programs at this site here that can be used to open them. Also welcome to the forums! Fjope
You don't actually have to pay for WinRAR, well you do, but it gives you a thirty day trial

Det. P.S.:If you can't afford winrar there are probley some freeware programs at this site here that can be used to open them. Also welcome to the forums! They use different algorithms that work well on different data types. For instance, an image that consists mainly of one color of pixel will be smaller if it's saved as a GIF that uses RLE compression than a JPEG that uses JPEG compression (duh) even though most JPEGs are far smaller than GIFs. So, choose the compression type based on what the contents of the file you want to compress are. FYI, KotOR's game files usually achieve a higher compression ratio with RAR or 7z compression (which I've heard works very well with MOD files) files. ChAiNz.2da
7-zip is freeware and it opens .rar files. Plus since alot of modders are starting to use this format, ppl79 can kill 2 birds with one stone.. err program http://www.7-zip.org
Darkkender
Winrar is free all of the time it just constantly prompts you to register and pay for it. After a 30 day period it still works like a charm.
