Jeff Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Meh. Doesn't bother me.Same here. It will take a little getting used to but I see nothing wrong with properly classifying it now. Better late than never.
toms Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 They'd have to re-write the books anyway.. either down to eight planets.. or up to about 15-30 of them. Just think... this way its going to be much easier to memorise the planets in science class than it would be if there were dozens of them..
BongoBob Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Good, I'd rather remember only 8 planets instead of the 15-30 there would be otherwise o.0
coupes. Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Nooooooo ! [/vader] Pluto will always be my favorite ;_;
Kjølen Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Pluto was never "officially" a planet to begin with. They just officially debunked popular belief, though. As for me, Pluto's moon was about the same size as Pluto. That bull**** alone confuses the hell out of me. Pluto can go do whatever it wants, in my opinion.
Alegis Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Good, I'd rather remember only 8 planets instead of the 15-30 there would be otherwise o.0 And that would increase every year as they discover new objects that would fit the description "ARE YOU ROUND? Ok join the club" A proper description works contra-confusing, Black Knight. Now that Pluto is out of the way ... MARS YOU'RE NEXT! I shan't accept any other planets than earth damnit, everything revolves around earth ... I want to feel special
Nerd_Annhilator Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Ahhh the work of thousands of people sitting about and pretending to be important.
Black Knight of Keno Posted August 25, 2006 Author Posted August 25, 2006 MARS YOU'RE NEXT! Actually, Mercury should be next... >_>
Dagobahn Eagle Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Sun in the centre of the Sol System? WTF? This is pure idiocy to me. Think of all those who still think the Sun revolves around us. Why, oh why...? I really don't see the point in this. Just makes everything more confusing than before this does. That's just...stupid. The sun revolves around us, period. [...] at the end of the day we have to describe the Solar System as it really is, not as we would like it to be --Prof. Iwan Williams, Chair, IAU Panel. It's called progress, budds. One of those annoying features of science. The Bible's far better in that respect - you only need to study it once:D. I guess I'd better not tell them about the new theory that says there are lots of planets in this system, beyond Pluto, bringing the total up to 19-21.
MrWally Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Hmmm I wonder if they are ever going to proclaim Sedna a planet now. Does any one else remember a few years ago when there was talk of another official planet being announced? It's 10x further from the sun than pluto is, but if I remember it's still relatively large, sphere shaped, and has a constant circular orbit... hmm...
Dagobahn Eagle Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Earth should be next. I wanna live on a moon:D! Just out of interest: Oh God, they named a dwarf planet after Donald Duck's car:D!
Black Knight of Keno Posted August 25, 2006 Author Posted August 25, 2006 Disney seems to be popular in space
TK-8252 Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 YES! http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/UnNews:Vogons:_Earth_no_longer_a_planet
Joetheeskimo Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Yeah, they've been thinking about demoting it for a while. Our moon is larger than it is. But it's still stupid, because we have to change all the textbooks to reflect this now. It's not much of a surprise though - science is always changing (for example, there's now a study that may prove that lactic acid isn't actually 'waste', but rather fuel, and that it's a good thing.)
narfblat Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Now that Pluto is a dwarf planet, it should be renamed. I pick "Dopey" in honor of the people that made this decision.
toms Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Not the first time btw: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Solar_System_bodies_formerly_considered_planets
IG-64 Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 I guess we won't have to wait till 2015 to have had probed all the planets...
