A little bit of Star Wars culture...

I'm just curious, an all of the EU (I've seen the movies), what references are made to the everyday life of the universe, what sort of cultures are out there, what do people on Coruscant do for entertainment (we saw a little bit more in the prequels), what do people on Dantooine do for fun?

What are your thoughts on life in the republic/empire when not involved in some war, or simply off duty?

Do you know of any specific canon examples?

For instance, the podraces remind me a lot of kart/formula1 (whatever you call it) with high speeds, long winding tracks, and sleek vehicles.

What if some planet had something more along the lines of the good old redneck stock car races?

Gambling is an entertaining and lucrative pastime. What are some games played besides pazaak?

note: topic of thread geared more towards recreational activity of "everyday life" than work/jobs

Inspired by the Coruscant entertainment center:xp:

Well, when it comes to gambling there's sabacc. Yeah, I know the name sounds similar, but the game is a little more complicated than good old pazaak. Here's a link to the detailed info about this game.

I'm not really sure about the rest of what interests you. If I find something I'll post it.

Well, the only ones I'm absolutely for sure about are these:

DANTOOINE:

Kathhound pit fights - Settlers can put up their kathhound pup up against others in a fight to the death.

Flying Manta Rodeo - This is a once a year event that has contestants drop out of speeders and try to lassoo or ride the flying manta rays that are corraled for this event. No repulsors or chutes are allowed.

Kinrath races - Similar to the running of the bulls in Pamplona, kinrath are released in a large area and contestants have only their evasive running skills and luck to escape.

TATOOINE:

Dune Sea Dewback Dross Dig - This is kind of the Jawa's form of "Hiding the Affikomen".

The Jawa child who can find the smoothest sandstone from the Dewback's dump gets a dollar.

KORRIBAN:

Hiss, Miss - This popular sith game is a blindfold, hide and seek game in a cave of Hiss. Although it's very popular programming on the holo-vids, sometimes there's delays due to the lack of contestants.

NAR SHADAA:

Refugee Free Fall Fling: Gamoreans test their strength in this olympic style contest.
