Mace MacLeod
Essential listenting: Van Halen's first six albums--I, II, Women and Children First, Fair Warning, Diver Down, 1984. The Who's Greatest Hits. Black Sabbath--self-titled, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Volume IV, Sabotage. The guys who invented all that is dark, heavy and evil in modern music. Tool--Undertow, Opiate, Aemina. Megadeth--Peace Sells, Rust in Peace. Avoid "Risk" at all costs. The Tragically Hip--everything. Canada's finest band. Rush--Moving Pictures. The Cult--Love, Electric. AC/DC--everything from 1974 to 1990. They slump somewhat after "Blow up your video". Jane's Addiction--Nothing's Shocking. Alternative before alternative even existed. Sons of Freedom--self-titled. Never got their proper due, and 8-10 later, half the bands coming out sounded exactly like them. Stabbing Westward--Wither, Blister, Burn and Peel. Hidden gem. Rammstein--Herzeleid, Sehnsucht, Mutter. German industrial rock with more "Oomph" than 90% of all bands out there. Once reviewed as "Music to invade Poland by". Marilyn Manson--Antichrist Superstar, Grotesque Burlesque. Rebellion isn't dead, and it can also be catchy. Rage Against the Machine--self-titled, Evil Empire, The Battle of Los Angeles. Far and away, the best rap-metal fusion band ever. And they had the most creative guitar player to come along since Eddie Van Halen. Stone Temple Pilots--Core. Proving once and for all, they were no mere Pearl Jam copy. Ministry--Psalm 69. Scary stuff. Metallica--Kill 'em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets. Hear metal done properly. Alice In Chains--Facelift, Dirt, Jar of Flies, self-titled. Grunge did have its cool moments. Try not to start using heroin just listening to these guys. I'm sure I'll think of a dozen more as soon as I hit "reply", but that's it for now.

MrWally
Ok, now you're just being crazy. Queen is awesome. I've been listening to BLue Oyster Cult and Metallica recently. The old school Metallica because their more recent stuff is mostly, if not complete, crap. Edit: One more thing - GO NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK! [/scary joke, new kids really suck @$$] I agree completely. Have you heard any of Apocalyptica's earlier stuff? Their first album is called "Plays Metallica with Four Cellos" It's incredible.

Mace MacLeod
^^Actually, I have that one too. IIRC, they've started touring with more orchestral musicians, and it's definitely grown beyond the 4 cellos. It's great fun to put on this CD for any snobby in-law guests so you can pretend to be all cultured and sophisticated, then at the right moment you can jump out of your seat and go: "OBEY YOUR MASTER...MASTER! MASTER OF PUPPETS IS PULLING YOUR STRINGS...!!!" while moshing and air-celloing around your dinner table. My daughter never lets me forget about that Thanksgiving... generalvaklu321
Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited is one of the greatest albums of all time. It has "Like a Rolling Stone", the Dylan tune everybody knows. But also it has two other of my favorite songs like "Tombstone Blues" and "Desolation Row"

Father Torque
My friends in HS are in a band called Left at the Castle. They are extremely good. Kinda like a mix between DMB (Dave Matthews Band) and Coldplay. Also, a drummer that went through my HS a few years back is a band called Shaimus. If you a Guitar Hero player you might have played their song All of This in the bonus section.

toms
most of my mates like the Mars Volta.. i keep trying too.. but soem of their albums are pretty hard to get into. Interesting though. Someone here mentioned Bright Eyes in another thread a long time back, so i picked up I'm Wide Awake Its Morning when i saw it cheap. Listened to it a couple of times and wasn't impressed. Then tried it again and got completely hooked. I need to check out Digital Ash in a Digital Urn when i get the chance. Muse's new album is good (bought it after seeing them live on tv at reading festival).. but if you haven't tried muse before then Absolution is still their best album imho. Can't think of anything else i've bought recently that was particularly outstanding. Best of the Pixies is always worth picking up. SIgur Ros are good too. Futureheads album isn't bad. Kaiser Chiefs and Arctic Monkeys are good, but have been way overplayed. For a change of pace, how about some Hot Chip?
MrWally
Sigur Ros (or however it's spelled) is really good, from the little I've heard. And I love Muse's "Absolution" Album.
BongoBob
most of my mates like the Mars Volta.. i keep trying too.. but soem of their albums are pretty hard to get into. Interesting though. Avoid Frances The Mute at all costs. Too much silence, and not enough good music. Deloused and Amputechture both have odd parts, that are more odd sounds, but they are artistic in a way, and there's more actual music to make up for it. However, Frances the Mute, had parts that were just faint far away noises. For a long time. If I remember correctly, the time between the end of The Widow and the next track was just faint far off noises for a good 3-5 minutes. And I'm not talking different ones, I'm talking the same noises in the same tones for 3-5 minutes. But yes, Deloused In The Comatorium and Amputechture are both great cd's IMO, and I highly suggest them both.
TiE23
Blackalicious - The Craft. Yeah, what ever. Like Jurassic 5 with more catchy tunes/more pop-like.
