Sony as evil as Microsoft?

I consider the rootkit fiasco more blatant and malicious. Yes, unfortunately, there will be some fools that take it at face value and buy accordingly. It strikes me, however, that a good and easy way to protect yourself from being taken to the cleaners is to check their "facts." If you fail to do so, well...can't protect the world from their own stupidity.

Bottom line, always consider the source and do your homework prior to purchase.

@Neg, I'm a U.Essy, do you want me to push the big red U.S. button on you?:D

This is a discussion of the evilness of entertainment corporations, not your ability to cry about the U.S. to compensate for your own inferiority(sarcasm) stay on topic and refrain from flaming other countries or you will be invaded and forced to mass produce our video game consoles and software for $0.13 an hour, thank you;)

I'm going to hold off on the rest of my Sony criticism until I use it, however sony has never really impressed me. I don't even see the point of putting the Wii on their list, IMO sony's only real competition outside of japan is microsoft, Nintendo seems as if it will co-exist with either console.

Also, I haven't researched sony's online functionality, anyone know what it will or will not offer in comparison to LIVE, or is it simply a copy?

They've bitched about their competitors. So what? That's marketing for you. Academics do it all the time...I've yet to hear someone call academe evil...Annoying, yes, but not evil...

Bitched? No. Lied. Yes. The purposely printed something incorrecly so that they came out looking better. It's a blatant lie. It kind of fits this being political season because it's a method politicians use in their negative ads.

Truth. Microsoft's going to sue the sh** of them, too. The world will bear witness to the greatest clash of evil empires since Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union. :)

My money's on Microsoft. Place your bets, ladies and gentlemen.

I think everyone know that Sony is getting desperate in its quest to conquer the hardcore community. The "regular" folks will still get the console for the pretty graphics and because it bears the name "Playstation".

It seems the hardcore community is more important then I had originally thought since every company makes a lot of efforts to seduce it (us). Our impact seems to be quite great. It would seem that nerds and geeks are starting to emarge as the new dominant force.

Excellent.

Is this marketing? It's an attempt at marketing. What's marketing is Nintendo's name change from Revolution to Wii. People made jokes about it, but the internet talked about it for a week. Since then, Nintendo has been on an excellent wave and in great terms with the community (outside of the Sony and MS fanboys). That's good marketing. This is poor marketing. Sony should fire their whole marketing department.

A safe bet, given that Microsoft's lawyers managed to keep Janet Reno(:scare5:) and her justice department flunkies at bay throughout the Clinton presidency. Sony's going to loose some serious money to Microsoft, more than they were already going to lose for demanding such a ridiculous amount for the PS3 in the first place. They should have just brought the price down instead of trying to justify it with lies.

Such behavior reeks of desperation. Is Sony in such bad financial shape that it has to lie about the competition? If Sony persists with this kind of marketing idiocy, I can't help but forsee its eventual downfall in the not-so-distant future. I can't see myself shedding a tear over it, either. :smirk2:
