Ok, I have now began to take interest in World of Warcraft, but because I don't know much about it (except from some things I read on the WoW site) I would like to hear the comments about some of the forumites here that play the famous MMORPG about what they like about the game and if I should by the expansion:

-THE BURNING CRUSADE

Also, I have noticed that here is another expansion called WRATH OF THE LICH KING, is it out yet? If so and you have it, how is the game experience? Thanks for your comments.

1. Do you have a life?

2. If so, do you want to continue having that life?

3. Do you have friends?

4. If so, do you want to continue having friends?

If you answered 'yes' to any of the above questions, please do not take up WoW, as it requires the sacrifice of those entities mentioned above. If you answered 'no' to any of the above questions, feel free to sell your soul to Blizzard post haste.

Hope this helps.

No, WotlK is not out yet. There is no release date set. WoW only has one expansion pack, The Burning Crusade which I recommend that you also buy since you'll be missing out on a lot if you don't.

What I personally like about WoW is that It's easy to learn and really fun even if you're not playing with friends (though it gets even better if you are). It's not complicated and for someone like me without previous MMO experience it was the perfect choice.

I've been playing since the Final Beta in early 2005 (and bought the game when it was released on February 12th '05) and in my opinion it is the perfect MMO. There's nothing really to complain about. Except I don't like the new expansion. Too science fiction-ish and the idea that the Horde can now have Paladins and the Alliance Shamans is one of the worst ideas I've ever seen. But that's just me. I'm a veteran so I always complain about new content. :xp:

And yes, you can have a social life even if you're playing WoW. It's not like everyone are hardcore raiders. You can play casually and keep your friends. :)

Not if your friends play WoW. :p

But seriously, it can be very addicting but it can also be controllable. I play but since school started its been fairly infrequent. Just depends on how into it you get. I've been chugging along slowly with the same character for a while now so obviously it can be controlled. And its definitely the best mmo out there.

Moel you're behind on your anime-watching, you shouldn't be playing WoW -_-

My advice is to play Lord of the Rings Online instead.

It plays a lot like WoW, but they've made quest A LOT less annoying. In WoW, you'll get a quest to collect 10 of a particular item which you get by killing a particular enemy. Only, you have to kill about 50 of that enemy to get them. In LotRO you have to kill 10, sometimes 11 or 12. Point is, if you have a quest item to collect, it will actually drop a lot more often than it will in WoW.

Maybe cuz you don't need to?

Still doesn't make it less annoying. Jumping is one of the fundamentals of MMO gaming...

If I can jump in a game, I will run around jumping as I go from one place to another... Why? I don't know. Theres no rational behind it. I guess its a habitual thing that a lot of people seem to share. Not being able to jump is lame. Its OK for a single player game, but not for an MMO. Theres not a reasonable explanation behind it... Its just one of those things that is what it is.

Let us all take a moment to enjoy the Zen that is Jumping.

auuummmmmmmmmmm. auuummmmmmmmm.

I don't know about you, but I'm feeling wonderful now. :^:

Guild Wars is ok, but you get what you pay for. (And no, I'm not saying that only based on not being able to jump.)

Decades of habit-building bunny-hopping whenever moving around in action/FPS games? :) Wonder when the game developers are going to catch on and just replace the standard "run" action with automatic "run and jump" instead. :p

In my opinion jumping isn't terribly essential in RPGs like the Baldur's Gate series, PS:Torment, Neverwinter Nights or KotOR, and if the scenario is properly built (i.e. no 1 inch tall unscalable obstacles) you don't even notice it most of the time. Though jumping and Z axis movement does add another dimension to the game world even in RPGs, as exemplified by Morrowind (and to a lesser degree Oblivion).

"You can't jump in Guild Wars."

Yeah...the sense of freedom ain't that great in GW. The Jump thing just illustrates this. GW isn't 1 huge world. It's split up in smaller pieces. Once you leave an outpost, the game loads your own version of the game, and you are alone. Unless you got into a party in the outposts, where all players are together.

About the jump thing, I find it rather unbeliavable that my Warrior with his big, weighty armor could do a backwards salto whilst wearing it :xp: Realism ftw!

Anyways,

one of my friends got deep into WoW, and he really enjoyed it. I still hear him rattle how his guild downed Illidan and how they were 'raiding' stuff and all. It's surely a great, epic game. No bad word there.

I've beta tested the game with him too, some years back. I don't feel like I missed anything by going for Guild Wars. It's just...the pressue of playing (the monthly fee) that got me scared, to be honest. I'm not the kind of person to sacrafice things for gaming, like Rogue Nine described.

The guy I tested the game with got his relationship ended over it (Not saying it was the cause, but it definately made them see eachother less).

If you're the kind of person who has eons of time, or finding school is easy, you will have a great, epic game at your disposal. But do realise, that the end-game content WILL force you into 6-hour dungeons with Guilds, who want you to play the game for X hours. It's a vicious circle :(

I tried once yesterday thnx to a friend and WoW seems entertaining enough, although I was not good in with the combat system, I had fun. I'm amazed at what you can do in the game (dance, cook, etc) and the different professions you can choose! Thnx to all who commented, now I have officially become a WoW player!! :)
