Can I have some too?

(You really don't want to know why, though... )

The weather was way too nice to spend indoors today, so I ran a few errands in the morning, then went for a walk. Did that most of the afternoon,.. pretty much until sundown.

When I got home I fell asleep. Just woke up again. Might watch a movie now... or fire up a game or 2.

So much for all big plans I had for this weekend... but I thought the possibility for fresh air, sunshine, and outdoor exercise in January overrode all other pre-existing priorities, since it might be weeks, if not months, before I see another day like this around here when I actually have the time to enjoy it.

Oh yeah... and I'm NEVER going into my local Dunkin' Donuts on a weekend again!

They staff the place with a bunch of giggly teenage girls who spend all their time talking to each other or with every boy who comes into the place that there's no time left to pay actually attention to the little things like taking the orders of paying customers and getting those orders correct.

But it was probably all my fault,.. not checking what was actually in my bag or in my cup before I got home.

This wasn't the first time I've had this problem either. I guess you would have thought I would have learned my lesson before.

But I have to pass the place on my way home. It's always so tempting.

Indeed.

Watched "Blade Runner" (the original theatrical edition; with the voice-overs and the "happy" ending that so many people seem to hate, but is the only version of it I've seen that I actually like...) instead of the game, though.

I guess I just wasn't in the mood for football.

I had no doubts about the outcome of the game, anyway.

Good luck ed!

Now that I'm more calm, I've looked at the Patriots.... They don't seem to tackle very well on defense. They are GOOD, but they don't seem to be able to make concrete hits. That I think will help ANY team.

The AFC Championship will probably be the Colts @ Foxbourogh, with the Colts now at 100%, it'll make it a harder for the Patriots to carry on.

I'll be on Xbox Live most of the day.... various games and such.

That's harsh. Seek professional help immediately.

I'm finding I get way too frustrated with games these days. If it's not easy for me right off the bat, my instinct is to call it quits and move to something else.

I used to spend days,.. that's goldurn literal DAYS fer chrissake... working on a sticking point in a game... to the exclusion of all else if needs be.

I don't know what happened to me...

No argument here. And unlike many of you here... I can actually remember them.

Played Halo 2 most of the night. Then some Mass Effect.

(Kind of a shame the old XBox games don't register in the Gamercard at all... oh well...)

Did a big grocery shopping today. It was pretty needed... and I doubt I'll want to stop tomorrow if it turns as messy as predicted. Maybe up to a foot of snow in some places. Gack.

Watched Ratatouille after that. Really good.

It occurred to me while watching the movie that if I get a high def TV soon, that I'll be wanting to watch all my DVDs all over again on the nice screen. Not that my current TV is a slouch, (the image is actually fairly nice...) but it's standard aspect... so that everything is letterboxed.

As soon as I go HD though... I predict many, many nights re-watching my entire movie collection.

Better stock up on popcorn. :dozey:

EDIT:

Word just came down via e-mail: Work is closed tomorrow.

That's a relief. Yay! More time for games!

:joy:

I'll probably be the 2nd on the scene at work tomorrow. it's going to be boring, guaranteed. well except for the drive in, that's always fun.

I was looking up the dev diaries on Fable 2. I'm now all excited for it. Can't wait to play that. :D

I just watched the movie 'World Trade Center' it was weird.

Ed: Your standard Def movies on your new HD tv will look like crap. TRUST ME. If you want to watch your old collection, nab a 1080P Upconvert DVD player so they don't look completley bad. And consider getting either a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player. Though I'd wait until the format war is over.

Call of Duty 4 is getting the most screen time now. Moving up the ranks quickly, and actually I've stopped completley sucking. I'm halfway decent. Still not uber.

Though I'm still fairly deadly with a Sniper Rifle, my close quarters combat with my M16 is getting better. I love that gun. ;)

All signs point to Blu-Ray being the unofficial winner at this point... but yeah, I'm sure I'll wait a bit on that anyway.

One thing at a time. Can't afford to replace the whole signal chain at once. It would be nice, but until I hit the lottery, kind of impossible.

I dunno... hard to believe that it will look worse than it does now... I'm going composite out of the player through the receiver, into the TV. About as lo-fi as an image signal can get. The TV doesn't take s-vid or component ins, so this was the only solution... other than into the co-ax input, which looked even worse.

My guess is that going component out of player straight into a widescreen TV is going to be a visual improvement over that right off the bat... but I guess I'll have to see it for myself. Obviously, I'm going to have to upscale...

Eventually the whole path will be high-def... but this year if I can just get myself the TVs it will be a start.

I'll be wanting to replace the surround receivers eventually too, to accept HDMI inputs. I'll keep the speakers, though...

Don't think my cable company offers a box with HDMI output yet, though... or at least they didn't as of the middle of last year when my boss upgraded to hi-def on his TV. So that will have to be component out as well...

This is just the livingroom set I'm thinking about... the cellar setup will probably just be primarily a gaming rig... I almost never watch TV down there anymore. If I watch a DVD there, it will probably be through the XBox anyway... which will be HDMI in.

Trust me... any upgrade I do down there will be a VAST improvement. That TV is probably close to 20 years old, was a cheap basic model to begin with, and ONLY accepts co-ax in. Right now, everything is going composite into the receiver, then co-ax through the VCR, into the TV.

It's already a blurry image, even for standard def. Couldn't possibly look worse than it does now.

Yeah... looks deep. Mass Effect is very similar. Huge worlds to explore. Could probably spend months on this one game if I wanted to...

There's an expansion to Oblivion too, isn't there? I can't imagine... I only wish I had that kind of time.

Didn't bother even making an attempt to get to bowling practice today because of the snow, even though it seemed to stop or at least taper off a lot by the time I usually leave my apartment. I figured the buses may have been on a snow schedule. Next Monday's a holiday, so bowling won't be half-price then. I may bowl anyway, though, just to stay sharp. I'll just pretend I practiced today for gift card purposes.

Anything High Def you want to stop using Composite Cables and go straight for Monster HDMI cables. For realz. Audio you're better served with a Fiber Optic or Digital Coax.

Yes, most High Def boxes do have HDMI Output. Yes, most 5.1 recivers have 2 HDMI in with 1 HDMI out to the TV, and a Digital Coax or Fiber Optic in. Yes, they are about 3-4 HUNDRED dollars.

Get Monster Cables. Let nobody tell you different.

The reason Standerd Def looks bad on High Def T.V's is because the TV's are designed soley for High Def, and thus, Standerd Def suffers. Standered Def doesn't have the resolution of High Def, so the TV has to fill in the gaps so to speak, so your image looks like a pixilated blur. It's watchable.... but I don't like it personally.
