How does one change his life around?

Recommended Posts

I decided to place this thread in Ahto, if a moderator sees it fit to go to Kavar's Corner, please do so.

Also, this is also a formal apology to the staff here at Lucas Forums.

A little background information before I proceed:

Since year/grade 9, I've been home schooled, I am now year 10. In year 9, I didn't do any, and I mean any, school work whatsoever. I had developed an addiction to the computer. Unfortunately, my self control and will power wasn't enough. People who personally know me, see me as a person with great potential.

Now, I've never been one to share personal emotions, feelings and stories with strangers on the internet. So this is a first time thing for me... Anyway, I was determined to do much better this year, but still didn't do any school work. All I wanted to do was the Information Technology tests/exams, but not the beforehand work.

This year, I had to wake up at 7:30am just to be awake by 8:00. The time when teachers get into work and call students who they haven't received much work from them. I've gotten really lucky a lot of times. I check the mail before my parents so they wont see the "Inactivity Letters" the school sends out if they haven't received any work from you for 40 days.

Just for non-Aussies, the school year starts in very late January. And it's May now, so like I said before, I've been very lucky. It wasn't until last Friday that I finally developed a motive and enthusiasm to do the school work and do it right.

When I got the mail, a job guide had arrived from the school. It was for year 10's to choose which career they wanted to pursue. We have this option to apply for a traineeship which trains you for your career while still in school. And another option if you want to nominate a company to also give you more training. I obviously chose a career in IT. I now have a strong motive to get good grades. When I leave school, do university, I want to start my own business. A typical computer store, but then make it into a corporation.

I sit at this computer all day, every day. I eat a lot of junk food and drink softdrink. I don't get fat because I'm "immune"

So I have got a schedule in place:

5:00am - Get up, have a shower, have some breakfast than take my dog for a run.

7:00am - start my school work and don't stop until lunch.

12:00pm - Have an hour break, play the computer, have some lunch, ect.

1:00pm - Continue with my school work until I finish whats needed to be finished for that week.

5:00pm - do my chore

6:00pm - have dinner

6:30pm - come on the computer

10:30pm - Go to bed

I will also be eating fruit, vegetables and salads.

Now for my apology:

The addiction to the computer and lack of social contact has made me a arrogant, stubborn sadistic person. :D I have insulted, flamed and abused a lot of people, including Lucas Forum members. And staff.

I hereby apologize to every single member that has been affected (or effected?) by my appalling behavior.

When I'm on my computer, I'll be writing a lot of Star Wars fan fiction stories, and a new novel which I want to publish in real life. I wont give away the plot because it's never been used before :D

And to those that are watching my Revans Choice mod, it wont be affected much. Just less time working on it. It will be released :)

I hope you all accept for apology, I will be a better person online and in real life.

Just needed to get all that off my chest,

Jebus

I've roughly been going through some of the same, although I'd wager it's worse and I don't see any happy ending in sight even though things have gotten back on track for now. Probably one of the few times in life I've wanted to just go back in time and change it all if I could, at least to see what a different life could have been. And the same time, I can't convince myself that it could have been any better, because I wouldn't have been the same person I am now. I could go on and on, considering the multi-layered life I've been living for the two years.

I say good luck to you and to getting that corporation running! From what I can tell right now, determination and routine does the trick, though it can be a pain in the butt most of the time. :D

Good luck with your quest Jebus, I wish you the best of luck.

I can't say that I'm addicted to the computer per se, I just don't have anything better to do most of the time. :xp: But yeah, I can definitely say that my schoolwork has been affected by the time spent on the computer instead of doing projects etc.

You mean I FINALLY get to sign into MSN without randomness being thrown at me occasionally? Yay! :D

Seriously though, hopes it works out. :)

Remember that I'm still left :xp:

I wish you the best of my luck

I commend you. It comes down to oneself to make things right. A timetable is an excellent idea. It definitely worked for me when I was studying.

Remember, education(or even vocational training - another form of education) is the key to getting places entirley off your own bat.

best of wishes. stick to that, stick to school, and all will be well jebus!!

Good luck with that!

I'm going through some of the same; I'm homeschooled and in high school, but a couple years behind because I slack off so much and don't get hardly any wok done. My correspondence courses don't have anything like teachers calling in when you don't send in your lessons, though. It's all supposed to be "at your own pace." Well, my pace is way too slow. Like "grinding to a halt" slow.

Good luck! Well, that I'm here to write this is proof that my self-discipline has gone to fly kites, for tonight at any rate.

Well, if the computer is such a major distraction for you, a good tactic would be too simply avoid it altogether. I daresay that you'll be itching to plug yourself back into that wonderful Intarwebz, but you'll find that it is *much* easier to concentrate without it. Set targets for the amount of work you aim to achieve by lunch/dinner. Adjust as necessary, and be realistic. Don't tell yourself "zomgbbq i'm gonna finish this whole textbook in an hour's time". There's my two cents' worth. I hope it helped, and best wishes to you.

Sabre, I have an irrepressible wish to interrogate you:P

Once you get caught up on the school work, it'll be a lot easier. You can''t get ahead by sitting on your butt. :)

What I did in High school and college was make it a policy to get all the work done first and then play. Some days I had a lot of homework and little free time. Other days it worked out so I had plenty of free time. By getting the work done first, it took a weight off my shoulders knowing I wasn't going to have to rush and get stressed out to get things done by he due date.

Steady work in small pieces works a lot better than a lot of work all at once. It's also something that employers and loan officers will be looking for prior to hiring or approving business loans. Steady progress shows more committment to the work.

Good luck with everything. :)

Thanks TK and Jae, much appreciated. My trainieeship starts in July, so I have till then to study, get my work done on time and get my grades up. Once I start it, I've locked in my future:

2008: July - January: Certificate 3 in Information Technology

2009: January - December: Certificate 4 in Information Technology

2010: January - December: Diploma in Information Technology (Systems)

By the time I've finished my diploma, I'll have just finished school. I'll then move back to my home town and rent a place with my childhood friends.

2010: July - July (2011): Diploma in Information Technology (Websites)

After I've done that, I'll start my own computer business.

I'm happy because I just recieved a letter stateing that I made it into some pre-AP classes. Life is good... :D

Well, I really don't think that I am addicted to the computer at all. I mainly use the/a computer for schoolwork, e-mail, learning new things, and to chat here. I don't hear the computer calling out my name. I am certainly glad that I am not addicted to the computer. :)

Well, congrats on starting down the road to sucess. You just have to work hard, and do your very best. Even though you might get a *C, know that you earned that C. I just work my hardest at every thing that I do. I strive to do my best, and I think that it is great to hear that you want to turn over a new leaf. So congrats! :thumbs1:

*That is the United States rubric, so I an sorry if that isn't Australia's grading rubric. A C is generally just passing, and in my eyes not very good!

I kinda know how you're probably feeling Jebus (being in high school my self).

I'm addicted to music production and early on in the year and spent all my time in my home studio. Self Dicipline definitely got me back on the path to educational success.

The time schdule definitely helps as long as you stick with it.

I wish you the best of luck and hope everything works out for you and your corporation.
