IG-64 Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 I'm a huge Pixar fan. I just watched this last night, and it's shaping up to be one of my favorites. I don't know if it's the kind of movie kids will enjoy as much, but I certainly did. It was much slower paced than most kids films these days, but to me that's partly what made it so great (a la 2001: A Space Odyssey, to which it acknowledged in several different ways). It wasn't perfect, there is one thing that bothered me: The fat people. I can take all of the environmentalist and anti-consumerist messages and move on, but the fact that everyone was fat and lazy just bothered me. Plus, all of those scenes just weren't that great and took time away from an otherwise amazing movie to me, and that was a bummer. However, once I got over that, the movie was awesome. Great characters, interesting plot, amazing visuals. Despite some smudges on the sheen, it was another amazing experience from Pixar, and up there with my favorites.
RoxStar Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 It looks so good! Too bad Mr Wally isn't here to see it with me
Lightsaberboy Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 how much voice acting is in it? from the trailers it doesn't seem like wally does much talking, so i figure most of it's from side characters like humans.
Samuel Dravis Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Not much talking at all, and most of that is the two robots saying each other's names. I really liked it!
Inyri Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 There was a lot of body language, facial expressions, and little chirpy noises that expressed what the characters were thinking and feeling. The fact that they didn't need dialogue made it all the more impressive to me. Great film. Definitely going to win some awards.
Achilles Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 I'm leaving in a few moments for my 5th viewing. I promised the kids that we'd see it again tomorrow after they get back from their mom's house. I plan on seeing it at least once more after than at the Cine Capri (AZ's largest non-IMAX theater). The Incredibles and Finding Nemo still hold the top spots but WALL*E is giving Monsters, Inc a serious run for third place in my list if favorite Pixar films.
Mike Windu Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 No Ratatouille, Achilles? I haven't seen this yet, but I am planning on doing so real soon.
TiE23 Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 I'm gonna leave to go see it soon. But funny, I just realized that I've seen all the Pixar movies many times, but never once watched Rataouille, even when we own the DVD.
Achilles Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Ratatouille was very good, but not one of my top 3. Interesting how closely the story maps to the monomyth. The Call to Adventure - WALL*E's decision to leave Earth to follow EVE. EVE's ship acts as "The Herald". Supernatural Aid - EVE. Many of her features appear magical (especially to WALL*E). Crossing the First Threshold - Breaking through the barrier of satellites. Rebirth - WALL*E recharging during the Sol fly-by. The Road of Trials - the "dream scape" journey to the Axiom. Marriage - Union between WALL*E and EVE, but this doesn't take place until the end of the movie. Apotheosis - Specifically, WALL*E on the lido deck right before he decided to chase EVE up the garbage chute. And/Or the scene in the Axiom's garbage dump. The Magic Flight - Axiom warping back to Earth Rescue from Without - Duh. The Crossing of the Return Threshold - Axiom returning to Earth and landing. Freedom to Live - The plant get's planted. Happily ever after, etc, etc. Love that they were able to apply the hero's journey in such an unconventional way.
Jeff Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 I thought it was great, definitely one of my top Pixar movies. I'd definitely see it again. I couldn't believe I was in a small theater though, I saw it at the midnight showing at the theater in the mall that has 25 theaters and we were in one of the small ones. :/
DarthAve Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 I haven't seen it yet. It looks good, and I generally enjoy Pixar's work, especially if there's a cute little short accompaning the movie. Money's tight though, and I still haven't seen Get Smart.... I will if I can scrap some change together and still have enough for Dark Knight... There are too many interesting movies out this summer.

DarthAve Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 mug someone and steal the money You influence me in all the wrong ways... I have heard good thingsabout Wall-e. Especially when a kids movie has older people generating buzz.... but Pixar does do that with every movie. I'll make an order to see it someday before I die..
Dath Maximus Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 You influence me in all the wrong ways... and?
TiE23 Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Brilliant movie, fat people was a little freaky, and I realized: There are no one but adults in the 25-35 year-old range, and little babies and very young children in the sub five-year old range. No old people, no children, no teenagers... just saying. Must see movie in any case. I think this may be my favorite Pixar movie next to The Incredibles. My list: WALL-E The Incredibles Monsters Inc. Finding Nemo Cars Bugs Life, Toy Story one and two are out of consideration. Haven't seen Ratatouille.
Kain Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 My fiance' thinks the little bugger is cute. I want to punt it like a football...mostly out of spite towards her...
Commander Obi-Wan Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 I saw Wanted instead. Twice. I'll probably see it Wall•E though.
ET Warrior Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 blech. Wanted was awful. And not in a pleasant gun-porn awful way. Just awful.

Finding Nemo Cars Bugs Life, Toy Story one and two are out of consideration. Haven't seen Ratatouille. Yeah, I noticed the same thing. There were a few old people in there, if you look closely (not including the one in the hover chair in the video). They're hard to see because they look about the same except for the hair. I have a theory as to why there were no kids besides babies. I'm sure they wanted to stay as far away from the whole childhood obesity issue as possible, especially in a (technical) kids movie. Also, my list.... well, I don't think a list would work very good, because I like them all. All I can say is that A Bug's Life was my least favorite. It's been so long since I've seen it, but I don't remember thinking it was anything special. I remember coming out of both WALL-E and Finding Nemo with a memorably happy feeling, so I might put those at the top, but I enjoyed all the others about as much. You should watch Ratatouille, it was good. blech. Wanted was awful. And not in a pleasant gun-porn awful way. Just awful. I'm glad to hear that... it looked awful.
Mike Windu Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 I saw it, and I thought it was fantastic. This movie will definitely grow on me. I can never shake the "man it's almost as good as Finding Nemo" feeling though. I just think Finding Nemo was the pinnacle of Pixar success. Damned if they aren't trying to up the ante every time, though. Wanted was also good.

Nemo was the last movie that this director did for Pixar Andrew Stanton WALL*E Finding Nemo A Bug's Life (co-director) Brad Bird Ratatouille The Incredibles John Lasseter Toy Story Toy Story 2 A Bug's Life (co-director) Cars Pete Docter Monsters, Inc.
Tony Andrews Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Walle is my new favorite pixar film. The movie was so awesome!
IG-64 Posted July 2, 2008 Author Posted July 2, 2008 Walle is my new favorite pixar film. The movie was so awesome! Cool, welcome to the Swamp. I'm having a hard time deciding whether this is my favorite one. I'll have to see it again.
Pho3nix Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 I just learned that WALL•E premieres September 5th in Finland. My country sucks.
