Fallout 2009: Nothing Personal was an adaptation of various Fallout locations written together to give off a similar feeling of isolation and bleakness, and while the desert was replaced with a forest, the decaying concrete walls of a former military base fit the environment perfectly. Having nearly 1:1 replications of weapons and armor also helps.
