Monkey Island Heardle - iMUSE yourself

I guessed today's Monkey Island tune 🎵 in 2 tries.

I had no idea for the first try, but an inkling after the second. Though I did cheat slightly by semi-accidentally reading Huz's spoiler >_>

Spoiler

Though I thought it was the treehouse with the map, and this list entry was closest to that, so I was only mostly correct.

Thanks, I’ll have a look at what’s going on! Do you remember how many tries it took you when you got “-1”?

Edit: Couldn’t find any obvious issue. Maybe you were joking? If not, let me know your browser version. Maybe it’s browser browser-specific bug. Another way top help me find the issue is checking the statistics (top right corner icon).

It was indeed a joke, sorry for worrying you! The game has been working great.

The joke was that I was so amazing at the game that I needed even less than 1 guess.

I guessed today's Monkey Island tune 🎵 in 1 try.

If I made a Monkey heardle-like game, you would need to name the game, the section/location and the version/soundcard.  All from a drop down list so there would not be any guessing the parser meta-game. In true wordle style, things would turn green or yellow depending on how close you are. Getting a full correct answer earns you pieces o’ eight, which you can spend on hints (like a few pixels from the scene) or to listen to an AI generated version of any combinations you’ve submitted that do not exist - say, CMI option screen on PC speaker.

So now you can finally listen to what the Woodtick tune would sound like on the Amiga! Of course the actual one (silence) would be part of the challenges to guess too.

I said IF…

Interesting idea. I considered different options, including picking from which MI game the music should be selected from. The problem is that the daily challenge wouldn't be universal ie. what you played might be different from someone else which makes it less fun to share on social media or here.

Another option would be to tell you in advance the MI game the music is from, but allow you to select the game version. For example, if its the opening from MI1 I would ask the user which version he wants to hear (MT32, CD or SE). I'm excluding Amiga because I don't have recordings of that on my website. However, I think this would make the game too easy and it would only apply to MI1 and MI2 (the other games only have 1 version).

I meant a universal daily challenge, but instead of getting either “skip”/“incorrect”/“correct” as feedback to your complete guess, it is broken down into  three parts (as all good puzzles are). You need to name the correct game. Suppose it is a MI2 track, then answering either MI1 or CMI would give you a yellow box, to indicate you are close, but not quite. Same for the scene/section. If you get the island right (or the act in some cases), but the wrong scene, you get a yellow too. So you could tell that you are on the correct island, but in the wrong game.

That would be the “easy” mode. In hard mode (the only mode I’d ever make), you also need to guess the correct rendition (PC speaker, adlib/SB, MT32, CD, special edition, Amiga, C64,…)

The whole jukebox thing is an added bonus to spend your hard earned pieces o’eight on later and to keep people playing. I do want to hear what those tunes could have sounded like on a C64 - even if they never existed.

it can be done:

I guessed today's Monkey Island tune 🎵 in 3 tries.

I immediately recognised the tune, so any further hints didn't help, but I had some trouble remembering what the music is from.

Spoiler

And of course it being from the Special Edition makes it harder, since I don't play those.

Also, please don't start generating Monkey Island music with 'AI'. The main reason I like the Monkey Island series is the music, so I really don't want to see that defiled by some fake soul-less energy-wasting plagiarism machine.

Again, this is just a big IF (not going to happen).
Then again, just listen to how much more soul machines get when you inject a bit of MI:

Man, the Monkey Island music sounds good on literally any instrument, doesn't it? :D

But that was still thought out and programmed by a human.

And we've seen in Escape what happens if you give robots too much power :p

Please someone patch the Amiga version to play this on the built-in drive.

You'd only need three external drives to get the same number of channels as the actual Amiga music. (This is because the Amiga is the best)
