Guest JediKnight_114[b]
Okay, My mom wants me to find a game that my four year old brother can play with me since he likes to play MY computer games. The problem is that it can't have any blood in it, and cannot be killing People. But is still an adventure type game. The guy at Best Buy told me MechWarrior 4 would probably work, but I have a few questions that requires opening the box to find out. (Which they CAN'T do) #1: Is it a really good game and relatively easy to play? #2 Can I play it using primarily the mouse and arrow keys supplemented by the rest of the keyboard like JK? #3 Does the keyboard have a shoot button already to where he can just push the fire button when I tell him to, or is it all on the mouse? #4 Can I reconfigure the keyes on the keyboard? Reason: I have to assign my brother a key to just practically shoot. That way he can still play and be a part of it without getting in my way? #5 is it strictly killing Machines, or do you ever see a dead person that you have killed? #6 Are there tons of keyboard commands to remember and have to do, therefore making me heve to get in my brother's way while he is trying to shoot? That's all I can think of right now, but if you have any insight that you think pertains to the rest of these questions, please let me know. HELP!! Thanks. OnlyOneCanoli
1)Great game. Relatively easy to play? No. It's a simulation... a no no for four year olds in my opinion. That should probably be enough, but I'll answer the other ones... 2)You can, but it is so much easier with a joystick. 3)See 4 4)Yeah, you can. Any game nowadays that can't is supid. You can give him any key he wants to shoot. 5)I don't recall ever killing a human. However, when wingmen die, your mission briefings talk about him or her being killed. 6)YES. I think one thing you are overlooking is that there is a LOT to this game than just shooting. Looking up and down, twisting your torso, walking, sidestepping, selecting targets. Not to mention more than one fire function... for example you get some bullet machine guns, some rockets, and a powerful laser in most of the mechs. In my opinion, it would be a waste of money to get it for him. It's just too simmy.
Guest JediKnight_114[b]
Alright, thanks for the tips. So, do you know of any game that might work. Remember, it isn't for him to play solo, so doesn't have to be for his age necessarily. I do most of the handling like with JK, I control everything but I just let him push the Ctrl button to fire alot. Now, it is just that mom doesn't want him playing that game, so I needed something else for him. I know that it is really hard to find, but I could really use some help. It can't have any blood in it. And what is being killed can't have a human resemblance. Like a humanoid type monster would be okay as opposed to the pirates in MotS. Oh, and if some of the good guys die, it's alright, because, it is the mean things killed him/her, and need to be stopped. Get it. What about the Spider Man game. I saw that one as well at Best Buy and it is rated E, so do you think that would work. Just apply my original questions to this game if you know about it. Thanks. acdcfanbill
if you wanna have him try to play something very similar to mech4 w/o buying it, try the BattleTech 3025 Beta game on EA.com, i am sort of a fan of series, and this game is just cool anyway... i dunno how long the free beta will last though... oh, and one other tip, dont join Stiener (my house) and loose planets for me... Denise
Sorry guys, MPBT:3025 got canned. The beta servers will shut down on Dec. 6th and there will be no final product. And the others are correct, MW4 is probably a mite complex for a four-year old. Six fire buttons, throttle, torso twist, radar status, lance coordination... it goes on and on. It really is a great game, just not for little bros. You might try a space sim. Freespace, perhaps. Might be a little bit of language from time to time, and one "scary" cutscene in FS1, but otherwise... blowing up spaceships is pretty far off from graphically slaughtering humans. Both FS1 and FS2 are fairly easy to control with the keyboard, too. You could steer the ship with the numpad and have him standing by, ready to fire the missiles when they're locked on. And a four-year-old should absolutely love FS2's beam cannons (heck, most adults do... LOL ) Absolutely no Alien vs. Predator, no matter what some joker thinks it'd be funny to tell you. Good luck. Wilhuf
Yeah, Aliens versus Predator 2 (AvP2) would be great for a four year old! Disembowlments, decapitations, dismemberments, and pools of blood! Searing obliteration of flamethrowers. The horrid screams of the unseen alien. All while running for your life like a rat in a dark abyss of a maze. I'm sure both the kid and his mom would really like that... Even though I really like the game, I would never let my or anyone elses 4-year old near AvP2. I also agree with Denise that MW4 may be a bit too complicated for a four year old. Freespace2 may be too complicated as well. It is a space combat simulator. JediKnight_114, I bet some kind of arcade-type game like Star Wars Racer would be good for you both together. It's a pretty decent game for the most part. Simple controls, but pretty good action. Although there are pod racer crashes, you don't see any blood or corpses. Seems pretty kid safe. A fun action game.
Guest JediKnight_114[b]
Thanks guys/girls. Here are the games that he is allowed to play with me that I own: Racer, Rogue Squadron, X-wing, TIE Fighter, and X-Wing: Alliance. He loves the flight sims, and playes Racer by himself, but still wants like an adventure game similar to JK where is is ground based combat. And yeah, AvP2 is sort of a given not to let 4year olds near.
Wilhuf
Well, if you're looking for ground based combat, it may be difficult to find a game that doesn't actually involve killing some digital animal or person. How about Battlezone 2? Tank combat. It is somewhat complicated, but you can play it in simple deathmatch mode. Usually you are just blowing up tanks (not people), although it does happen on occasion that the pilot will jump out of his tank. Sometimes the pilot is run over or shot by an enemy... not sure how much mom will like that. Actually the pilot option can be turned off in multiplayer, so it can be strictly tank v tank ground based combat. cossack1812
What about a racing game, the ones with cars, NASCAR4 was a blast for the young kids that come over occasionally(but i had a wheel ) Not to mention the fact that NASCAR is simple for them, driving around in a BIG circle, great practice before they can advance on to more difficult tracks. Wilhuf
BTW there is a patch available for MechWarrior4 that addresses a number of issues, especially in multiplayer. The patch brings MechWarrior4 up to version 2.
Darth_Lando
Ok I see a couple of things wrong with this scenario. The kid is 4 years old. He needs to be making the changes not you. If he doesn't like playing his own games then he doesn't need to be playing aynthing. What are you going to do when you want to watch a scary movie you like and he wants to see it too? Is your mom gonna only make you watch Disney movies or just tell the kid no he is too young? What if you stay up late on the weekends and he wants to start doing that too? Is your mom gonna make you go to bed early or tell the kid no he is too young or let him stay up late and be cranky the next day? The kid is 4. He has got the rest of his life to do adult things and is too young to be controlling the family. There are many games targeted for 4 years olds which are educational and fun (get a game targeted for 6 to 10 year olds if he is a mature kid). I may be overreacting. But I can't think of a game for teens a 4 year old would love UNLESS it was just the mindless action packed shooter. Star Wars Racer would be too cpmplex, so is MW 4. Bombad Racing may be too boring for you to play. It doesn't sound like a good idea to me. There is too vast a difference in a 4 year olds dexterity and complexity (and attention span) when playing teen action games that doesn't include the mindless shooting frenzy that is popular these days. Vagabond
Well, Darth_Lando, apparently you've been living under a rock. Clearly, every four-year-old dreams of playing Jar Jar's Alphabet GalaxyTM

Clearly, every four-year-old dreams of playing Jar Jar's Alphabet GalaxyTM LOL. I know I kinda blew up on this thread. Hehe. But still, I think making everyone cater to a 4 year olds wishes isn't healthy for a child. Parents are already scarificing their time, what they would rather be doing for themselves, and money to buy him clothes, feed him, keep him safe, and get an education. If the kid wants to play teen games he can wait until he is old enough. He has the rest of his life to play them. What are we talking about... waiting 4 years? By the time a kid is 8 he would have very fast skills and reactions to play games like MW4 and other type of games where you don't actually "kill people". The Seeker
Don't get me wrong, he doesn't run the family. There are very strict rules of what he can and can't watch, what he can and can't play, and that he goes to bed earlier than me, because he just has to. He really likes playing Jedi Knight with me, but that's off-limits, so I was just checking if there was an adventure game that he could play with me. Something like Sonic the hedgehog would be fine. So, it isn't that he doesn't like playing his own games, he just likes to do the adventure stuff with me, so thanks for the suggestions everyone, but I just got him two or three new games for his age, so he is happy playing those and Rogue Squadron with me for the time being. Toa Tahu
Maybe Megaman X4 or X5 would do...?! If it couldn't,just take it as a joke from me.If it would do,then,it's a great suggstion, right? Anyway,if you want to know,in MX4/5 you can't configure the controls. Thus, your 4-year old can only struggle with the Z,X,C controls only. BTW,my 5-year old cousin(obviously I'm older) can beat me in Tekken 3!What a shame(to me!)!
