Keeping names in MP

This was just a thought that I had, but I thought that it would be interesting if we kept our names on these boards for when we go MP. That would make it interesting for when we chat on the boards and then play and say to ourselves "Hey! It that one guy from the boards" Just a thought for you guys.

Ill probably change my nick, Iv used it for everything for years and I got bored of it.

Anyway, I wont play in the same servers you will, so I doubt Ill ever play against any of you (except maybe If I get to play with some amazing connection that gives me low pings to the US/Australia/Europe :D)

Worrying about someone taking your name in MP is silly. JO will have a dedicated server setup similar to Q3 and HL, and all those types of games. There is nothing stopping someone from choosing the same name as you. So getting worked up, and saying "I'll be the only <insert name here>" is not worth your time. As long as the name is somewhat original, like most of the names on this forum are, you shouldn't have to worry about anything! :)

I like the idea of adding _JK2net to the name. That will not only advertise this site, but make sure there aren't any other Dan12R s out there. And if there is, you know who's me. But I thought that it would be nice to come back and remember classic battles we've had with each other.

Guest Krayt Tion

This name for Dark Forces (I, II, III) play only. It's a Star Wars rpg name also used in rpg situations (few though they are). I'll use abbreviations of this name in other games of close friends so people know who I am, like KT or after I went pop K-Ti. ;)

In other games when I'm not playing with anyone I know... it's anything goes. Anything that reflects some subconscious concept or object might make its way into a mp name of mine. I often get downright silly with 'em. I had hundreds of names under counter-strike, some more creative and sentimental than others, often changing names several times per map. If I was doing well, I'd be one of my fun names, if poorly, I might be called one of my 'i'm sucking ass now names' There were emotions, both positive and negative, tied to several of my more permanent names. If someone saw me as sh*T for example, they knew I was in a pissed mood or wasn't happy with my performance.

I also like to use names that taunt the enemy... there is some definite psychology in all of this. I'll pick a name like BraveHorses when I'm confident in my game and want to have everyone get killed by what I know they will perceive as a "sissy" or "ghey" kind of name.

I play under alias about half the time... I get sick of getting hit on mid-game, or "U cant b a girl, U play too good".

But I do usually try to go with my real name for multi, yes. :)

I have a friend who has that problem. She's quite a good cs player and forever being told she's "Not a girl", so she plays under generic aliases, or very subtley feminine ones.

Play under Denise, Denise. Show those idiots women can play :)

I agree with that, acdcfanbill. ;)

It's sad there are still some people who think women are bad gamers... :(

Go for it, Denise.

As for me...I'm plain old StormHammer. With the capital H. ;)

I don't use any other names now. I wouldn't want anyone to get confused over who they just fragged...or who dismembered them. :D But don't expect to see me much online this side of a bad net connection. :(
