What Would Life Be Without Star Wars?

If there was no Star Wars, we'd have to be satisfied with Dune, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Flash Gordon, the Hidden Fortress, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, the Bible....

and all the other stuff that Lucas used to make the amalgamation that is Star Wars! ; )

-I wouldnt have owned a plastic lightsaber with no plastic lightsaber blade...

-I would've had a totally different life,as the amount of change of time would set this dimension on a alternative one*

*Yes,I got this from back to the future...

A life without StarWars would be the same to one with StarWars... except there's just no StarWars.

There's allways something else that captivates imagination of people. For some its StarWars, others StarTrek, and for the rest its beer, sex, guns and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I'd say I fall mostly in the 3rd category. I could do a living without StarWars. I'd just be designer sites for an other network, thats all :p

I know this will sound really really geeky, but.........

WHen I was a kid, I was the one always left out. I was the one everyone made fun of. Everyone hated me. That lasted all the way through middle school. One time, in 6th grade, A bunch of kids jumped me like cheap a** punks. I managed to beat off three or four, but it was like a gang thing. I went home crying, and thinking about suicide.

I actually THOUGHT ABOUT SUICIDE! ME, THINK ABOUT SUICIDE!!

Then I turned on the TV in hopes of some sort of hope. You know what I saw on TBS:the superstation?

Star Wars, A New Hope.

I sat down, And watched it. I didn't even know what star wars was untill I seen it. (keep in mind im only about 11 or 12 at this point). I watched it. After the movie, I said: "That kicked a**!" And Then, I flipped it to the scifi channel and watched and episode of STar Trek. After those shows, I decided to live.

In a way, Star Wars, And Star Trek, Saved my life. I have been addicted to Star Wars and Trek ever sense.:D

I would probably not be at all interested in computers...

See I got into Star Wars in the 5th grade, shortly after everyone else stopped being interested in it (I've always been on the ball :p). I enjoyed reading the books, and then I found out about the computer games. They were really the only computer games I played at first, and account for the majority of the games I've played thus far (Blizzard taking an easy second place).

So if I hadn't gotten into Star Wars, I would have just remained a bookworm, reading books all of the time, cut off from other people. I probably never would have gotten into any of the computer games that were prevalent when I went to college, and probably would have stayed away from chatting, and stuff like that, simply because I wouldn't care about computers, except as basic tools.

So then I probably wouldn't have had any problems pushing through school, and I would have gotten good grades, and would have become a chemical engineer, even though I would be aware that I wouldn't really want to do that.

Then I would get out into the world, land in some job where I would make a lot of money, marry the right woman, have 2.5 children, retire at 60, and have a calm, simple retirement. I wouldn't have any passion, or care about anything, and I would die without having really lived.

Instead I dropped out of college, and am going to go work at who knows where until I can figure out what it is I want to do with my life. I might not ever get rich, and I might not ever get married, or have any kids, but I'll live my life according to my wishes, and to my thinking, in a rather indirect way, Star Wars gave that to me. Not because of anything it says, or because it is a way of life, but because it was there, and it was interesting enough to make me passionate, and it's very possible that I wouldn't have become aware of anything else when I did.

See there are other things out there, but none were ready for me to grab onto, when I needed to grab. In many ways life is about opening and closing windows, and you have to jump through the window at the right moment, or you won't ever jump through at all.

Does it mean that Star Wars is the end-all, be-all?

No

Does it mean that I don't think any other fantasy Saga's are better?

No

Does it mean that Star Wars gave me something that nothing else could have?

Yes

I don't expect most of you to understand this, especially because it's so long you won't actually read it, but maybe some of you can see why it matters to me, but also why it isn't sacred to me.

This thinking alike thing is starting to get very weird...

I read it all, I can easily see why it matters to you, and I think you're spot-on about the "opening and closing windows" part...

I'm going to go to sleep now, and hope I don't remember too much of this strangeness when I wake up :D;)

I'm kinda critical of the past two movies, but when I was little I had my x-wing, tie-fighter, and other star wars characters, they were the highlight of my life back then.

And now I feel kinda like that everytime I play JK 2 (err post patch fixed via JK 2 ++ mod .. *plug*). :)
