She talks in the whole Internet speak thing. One day along with making the usual hard to guess abbreviations and odd combinations of letters and numbers in words she decided to stop using punctuation. I asked her why (since I couldn't understand a damn thing she was saying ) and she said "because I have to use it in school all the time & I'm sick of it." What the hell??? The ones I know on this forum are the exception, but kids are getting dumber by the minute. I swear. Cool comments to the slashdot article... Heres people translating internet speak from a FPS scenario into regular (and old world) english: Regular: EliteFellow: Ah-ha! My aiming skills are unmatched. I usually read slashdot at least once a day. It's on my "browsing list" alnog with CNN, Bluesnews, the Academy site, and of course Lucasforums.

I have many friends who use thinks like g2g, r, ur, w/e, and j/k all the time. On aim I use g2g and u, buts that is about it. At my school kids don't write "u" instead of "you."
Agen Posted September 21, 2002 Posted September 21, 2002 yeh i use u cos it's short but it's never interfered with my schoolwork, mayeb if someone is talking to me while i work about comps i end up writing what they jsut siad isntead of what i was thinking but nothing like that has ever happeend to me I've actually noticed this bunch is more intelligent than most of the other people you get hanging around on the internet!
Clem Posted September 21, 2002 Posted September 21, 2002 it happens to me ... not only when im typing but when i write by hand (which i avoid like the plague) .... but i must stand up for myself and at least some of this lot its not that i dont know its wrong ... its that i done notice when im doing it bit like when ur listening to ur mp3 player .... and suddenly realise (mainly from the funny looks people are giving u and others are trying to cover their ears) that ur singing along

I tolerate others who do it also unless they say stuff I do not understand and then I tell them to talk like a person with a brain. They either leave or apologize. BigTeddyPaul

As the internet makes written language more common the need for spoken language is less so we just stop. In a few generations people will either develop telepathy or have to have laptops with them so they can IM someone when they want to talk to them.

TheWhiteRaider Posted September 23, 2002 Posted September 23, 2002 The reason for this is because out schools switched from the Dydatic(Sorry if I misspelled this couldn't find the dictionary.) to Dialectical(Same about this one.). We changed it from where we were taught to have goals in our life and taught to obey the law. Also they were bigger on punishment back then for say. To where they say if it feels good do it and no one can tell you their views in a way as to convince you that you are wrong(Even though they do it all the time). And they get a pat on the hand and told not to do that for doing something they shouldn't do. My sister was home schooled under a Dydatic system Many people said to my parents when my older sister was 8 "She is going to be a rebel like all other children." Well my sister hasn't done that yet and she is in her 4th year of collage. She loves to study and hasn't been wild or anything like that. Home Schoolers have under a Dydatic system have won the top places in the Spelling and Gramar bee. They tend to socalize much better that Public schoolers. Over all the Schools have been trash by regulations and political correctness. I couldn't agree about the stone age. I am a creationist not a evolutionist. Anyways I just say the school system is failing.
