Snowtrooper
Hi everyone... I'm forcing my mum to get me a Christmas present but I'm in a dilemma... Should I buy XBox or Playstation 2? Please don't ask me to get both at once because it is impossible... XBox - costs about $430. I love the GREAT graphics. Latest console... but there are no pirated games for sale yet, only original... and original games cost a bomb:( Playstation 2 - costs about $588. Pirated games are available But is more expensive and my mum says she won't pay so much for me... Therefore, those lucky ducks who have either Xbox or PS 2, please help me! Boba Rhett
First off, no talk of pirated games here. Secondly, it overwhelmingly depends on what type of games you like. There's really that much difference in price between the two where you live?
Surfnshannon
ya that seems a little expensive for those systems!! and word to the wise on those pirated games.....you will invalidate your warranty on your very expensive system. I had to return my PS2 because it was a bad one. I don't think for the money it is worth it to you to be pirating games. No wonder they want a lot of money for the system. And just like Rhett said...I mean if you look at the game library of each system it is very easy to determine for yourself which system would better suit your gaming needs. I personally opted for a PS2 because I like the games better. I didn't really see any on Xbox I liked. Both are good systems - The xbox doesn't need a memory card (or maybe I heard that wrong) and the xbox does have a better system. But the game library is limited. You really should just make a list of the games you want for each system and figure out from there which would be best for you.
Boba Rhett
Some other things to think about : PS2 requires the purchase of memory cards to save games. Xbox, however has a built in hard drive. A hard drive can be purchased for the PS2 though. I'm not sure if hdd for the PS2 are available yet. PS2 has by far the largest amount of games to choose from. You can rip music onto the Xbox. If you feel the Xbox controller is to large, many Xbox's come with the smaller version of their controller which is the same size as the PS2 controller. Both the PS2 and Xbox play dvds. The PS2's controller can be used to play the dvds. You must buy a special remote for the Xbox to play dvds. ($20 - $30) All three have/will have online capabilities. XBox just went online. Snowtrooper
Hi!! Thanks everyone!! I think I would be getting PS 2 though. I prefer their games. As far as I know, XBox does require some sorta memory card. word to the wise on those pirated games.....you will invalidate your warranty on your very expensive system. In my country( I'm not too sure about yours ) we pay 100 bucks to modify our consoles. No doubt that our warranty would be invalid, but original games are REALLY expensive ( cheapest $50 ) If we buy these games, our pockets would be empty:( How much do games in North America or europe cost? BTW, I come from South-East Asia, therefore things are definitely much more expensive!
Boba Rhett
The Xbox doesn't require a memory card. Games are almost always 50 bucks over her.
Surfnshannon
U can get specials on the PS2 Greatest Hits ones which are only 19.99. Then I know most games run from 29.99-50.99. Some are even more like SOCOM which is I think almost $80. For a Hundred Bucks you could have 2 games and still have a valid warranty. Can you rent games in your country? We can over here and it only costs about 5 bucks for 5 days of rental. I just think modifying consoles is bleh. For one thing you can really mess up the system if the installers don't know what they are doing. Sometimes the newer games won't play on your mod and then you have to get another one. Plus I don't think the quality is as good at all. Pirated games are the reason why I have to pay $50.00 for my games. So I upon them.
Snowtrooper
For a hundred bucks I can get 20 PS games and modified systems have no problem at all ( My playstation and Dreamcast ) are still working fine. The games may not be working very well... but who cares? I can get another for $5:p Sadly, no one rents games here partly due to the reason that you can get 1 so easily. But I am in full support of original computer games!
Rogue15
my friend asked eb which was better, and they said the xbox has been sellling better, they also said 1/3 of playstation 2s get returned cause of defects, and only 1/10 of xbox get returned cause of defects....also, they said more people have been trading in ps2s for xboxs... like they said, it all depends on the games you like. Sherack Nhar
Yeah I wouldn't believe that statistic either. Just look at each console's library of games and pick the one you prefer based on that.

Actually some recent numbers arised showing that the PS2 does in fact outsell both the Gamecube and Xbox in a weekly fashion. So Sony's console IS the best-selling one. Ratmjedi
I prefer PS2 because of the games that they have. XBOX really doesn't have any games that I want with the exception of HALO. It just depends what games you are into and what you want expect from your console.

Artoo
Speaking of Console Wars, part 2 is up check it out! And I can't make that decision cause I like my Gamecube better. But if forced to choose, I would say XBox because of Halo and their exceptional sports lineup. I also am finding the controller to be much more comfortable than the small little Gamecube controller. WolfmanNCSU
I recently purchased an XBox for myself about 2.5 months ago. My reasoning is the fact that the XBox is a better piece of hardware, and the recent addition of good games coming. PS2 is a good machine as well and has a huge selection of games, mainly because this is a second console and they have been in the market for a year longer than the XBox. I am satisfied with my XBox and it really suits me. I like the games that I have, and there is a lot of new really great ones coming on the way that I am looking forward too. I am also considering getting my Bro an XBox for Xmas. He wants one too, and its at a really great deal right now. Plus there is an additional special going on when it comes with a set of speakers, that I could use for myself.
